Rova 3, 4715 - Fair Fortune Livery

Chaos ensued in the ruined building as everyone tried to fend off the attacking dogs. Fiametta and Rexus attempted to fend off the dogs with spells, only to be stimied by the movement of one of their allies in front of the line of fire. White Adder attempted to stab at the mutt nipping at him, but the animals much smaller body made an unfriendly target. Lilette faired only a little better, her attempted stab acting more as a punch on the creatures side, barely doing more than bruise. Saria had moved to the other mutt, doing little better in her attempts.

But John had finally had enough it seems. His morningstar came down with a true blow on the mastiff's head. This not only stopped the large dog from turning his calves into veal, but also seemed to spook the dog near White Adder. It took the bruising Lilette had given it as a fair warning and attempted to flee, squeezing between White Adder and the wall.

The other dog turned its attention on Saria, determined to leave some mark, but Saria could feel the extra protection the bracers she wore giving a layer of magical resistance and preventing the bite.

With the immediate threat ended and -- glancing over his shoulder -- the secondary threat all but taken care of, John puts away his weapon and crouches down next to the beaten mastiff. He looks the animal over, trying to determine if it's a crazed feral beast, or a poor, hungry animal defending its home.


OOC:
- expend one use of Blessed Surgery to roll-2-drop-1 on my heal check against the dog. If I think can be managed, I'll cast the Stabilize cantrip to keep it from dying.
- If someone wanted to tame the injured dog via Handle Animal, now would be the best time.

The deaf girl moved forward to fill the space in front of the remaining mutt and took a swing at it with her morningstar, hoping to finish this fight quickly and consolidate later.

Rova 3, 4715 - Fair Fortune Livery

White Adder flicked his rapier at the fleeing dog scoring a hit on its hind leg as it fled. He then moved up to where the majority of the group was standing and attacked again, his rapier hitting an artery as Alexis brought her morningstar down on the animals hindquarters. It attempted to lunge for the woman who had just hit it when another green sphere came hurtling by knocking it back. It quickly collapsed to the ground, blood still leaking from the torn artery.

The Mastiff's breathing was slowed, but no longer the slow breath of blood loss but of mere unconciousness. A quick examination shows none of the typical warning signs of madness in dogs, but the general condition of the dog is rough. It is missing patches of fur from what looks to be constant itching and is thinner than a dog of its breed should be.

Dog 1 is limping away and moving noticeably slower, Dog 2 and the Mastiff are unconscious.

Keeping her weapon in her hand, Saria let the rest of the group handle the dogs as she didn't know much about healing or animals. She had a look around for anything that might help them with what they were planning, like an entrance or something.

"I'm going to have to invest in a healer's kit if this keeps up," John mutters to nobody in particular as he leaves the mended mastiff to one side and moves over to join Alexis. "Thanks for your help back there," he states with a friendly nod as he lowers himself to kneel beside the smaller animal. Contributing to her efforts, he helps in patching up the wounded animal.

"How are you doing?" he asks. "I can summon divine healing if you're very wounded," he offers.

Once Alexis and the dogs are fully tended to, he'll drop a few rations from his pack and leave them for the animals once they awaken -- leaving 2 for the mastiff. "Let's continue on. We have some exploring to do." Taking the lead once again, he moves deeper into the stables, walking a circuit around the far end of the stables before making his way towards the no-longer-hidden entryway and peering through to the other side.

White Adder and Saria

Exploring the rest of the area you can tell that while the front of the livery was where the horses were stabled the back served as the offices. The back door is chained shut and the wood itself is swollen, but nothing a good shoulder couldn't force.

The offices are nothing fancy, each containing just a worn desk and chair. Underneath the desk you can see the worn spot in the dust where the dogs must have slept.

It doesn't take long while searching the rest of the rooms to find the small footprints in the dust on the surfaces of the shelves and desks within the room, footprints that looked almost like those of a clawed babies foot. All of the footprints you can see are out of easy reach of the dogs.

Knowledge (Nature) DC 15 Trained

Tspacer.pnghese are Grimple footprints, small disruptive gremlin like creatures that have been accurately described as scrawny upright mange ridden opossums. The loose flaps of skin between their limbs allows them to glide, often shedding some of the parasites that they carry while they do so. They despise humanoids and are known to purposefully try to arrange accidents, just as opening stable doors or loosening shop signs. One known thing is the noiser a venue, the more likely to draw a grimple's ire. Those skilled at catching and exterminating them make a decent living (as long as they can stand the constant re-infections with the lice or the grimple's nasty habit of vomiting at will).

You find a key wedged at the back of one of the desk drawers. It looks like where one would store a spare access key, just in case.

White Adder

As you look around, your instincts tell you to look up. After all the cleverest ambushes often come from on high. And your eye does catch the glint of metal in the rafters. But not that of an enemy, it is far to small. It looks like a ring was stashed up there and the metal is still shiny despite the gathered dust. But it is rather high up, you would have to climb.

 

Lilette stashed her dagger and rushed over to Alexis. She kept dragging the young woman's attention away from the dog as she instently kept signing questionsAre you hurt? How bad? Was it just the spell or did they bite you? Do you need to go home? . She spoke to John without looking at him. "You can't just run in like that! She could have gotten really hurt and she keeps pretending like she doesn't have limits!" 

Rexus stood by awkwardly, unsure where to lend a hand and not wanting to draw the attention of the angry sounding young woman. "I don't know much about dogs, I was rather allergic growing up. But is their fur supposed to look like that?"

Alexis's couldn't hear his question but she could see the condition of the dogs. They looked rough, covered with scabs and missing patches of fur. She couldn't figure out where to start with the most recent wounds, but it was obvious that these dogs had been suffering for a while.

John was far more successful, the stabilize spell causing the small dog's breathing to start to normalize. The rest of the wounds on both dogs looked like they would heal with time, food and rest. But with the state of their bodies before they had encountered the group it wasn't a guarentee they would be able to get that here. A look over both dogs now the fighting is done shows that they both show signs of small bites all over their skin as well as patches where the hair seems to have been physically ripped from their bodies. There are no signs of living fleas or lice on them however.

The hallway beyond the locked door appears to be the remenants of the livery's purpose before it housed horses (and later stray dogs). The design of the hallway and gate looks like that of a slaughterhouse, with the gate having a space to trap the animals head so that it could be swiftly killed and the body processed in a side workroom. Behind the gate a door is barely hanging onto the wall, the coloring of it means it would have been hard to spot if it hadn't been mostly off it's hinges and testing the whims of gravity.

"Naii! Aiam ortai!" Alexis did her best to enunciate to Lilette's barrage of questions, her hands barely having been freed from the work that John had so expertly taken over with stabilizing the dog's wounds.

 

"🤞👆 🤞👇🤙 🤞👋🖖 🙌🖖👋 👋🖐🤙 🖖👎🤙👍👍 👇👌 🤞👆 🤞👇🤙 ☝️🤙✌️👍👍👏I'm fine, it's just the spell... No, I'm fine, really..." To the best of her ability, she tried to allay her friend's fears, hoping she would calm herself and not lose it on the others too hard... And then she realized — they don't know! Hurriedly she got Lilette's attention again, signing to the young hothead, "🤞👋🖖 👇👌👋 🖐🤞🖖 ✌️🙌👍👋 🖐🤙 🤚👌🤙🖖👇👋 👊👇👌👐It's not his fault, he doesn't know!"

 

With things now calmed down a bit, she now had the time to refocus and dissolve the life link that was active between her life force and John's, and then now seeing that other guy (who is he?) come ask for climbers? The deaf girl cocked her head curiously all of a sudden, then shrugged and shook her head to her friend with a confused look on her face.

"I don't like the looks of those dogs' wounds," John comments to anyone who's listening, standing up and dusting himself off. Answering Rex's question, he shares what he's thinking. "You're right about the fur, and their skin. I suspect that there's some other feral non-canine creature here as well. Everybody keep on your toes."

While the others check the rafters, John heads towards the formerly-secret door. He takes a long, close look at it before even touching it -- wanting to keep the area as intact as possible, hoping to be able to restore it at some future date if that level of secrecy is needed.
