But we are below da street level, so who knows." he said with a shrug as he walked back into the room with the others, catching Nera's question. "Wut be da chance dat dis was nothin' but a diversion ta pull us away from da cafe?"

Daergrim and Gareth can't make much of the dark tunnel beyond the secret door of this underground chamber, beyond that it must eventually lead somewhere else.

 

Pressed by the impatient round of questioning, Cres looked simply defeated as she turned to stare away emptily, her fists balled up beside her body. The other surviving children huddle around her, still facing their would-be saviours with their saps threateningly pointed.

 

"What makes her any better than I am?" Cres started accusingly, her eyes casting daggers at Teza and Brucilde alternatively, though she seems to barely be keeping her wits, as a tear begins to roll down from the corner of an eye, "Why does that woman get to be celebrated in this city, and me! Me…"

Daergrim shrugged and walked back to the not-so-secret secret door. The dwarf remained on high alert, not wanting to be caught off-guard by any would-be ambushers. "Dis be a strange indeed." he said to the man as he once again gazed down the tunnel.

The sound of some commotion is heard upstairs, shortly before Naomi's voice calls down, "Hey guys? The guard is here."

 

In a short moment, several individual clad in the official colours of the Kenabres city guard scramble down the ladder, with one who seems to immediately begin issuing orders to the others, while another starts asking questions about your most recent encounter.

 

Though it seemed that the kid was about to spill her guts just now, the intrusion seemed to have either given her pause, or the distraction she needed to take flight. Grabbing the other two kids, Cres makes a run for it, dashing past the lot of you and into the secret tunnel.

 

Iolana, Nera and Teza Only

Did you imagine it or did you manage to catch a glimpse behind the oily red curls of the child and see a visage that's complete different?

 

For a split second as the children ran, you could've sworn that that was not a child at all, perhaps a halfling, but with the distinctly unmistakable horns and perhaps characteristic rouge skin tone of a tiefling.

"Wait! ... Shit." Teza hadn't been expecting the girl...woman? To flee. A halfling tiefling, at least that was the best she could tell. She would have to tell Kimmy... oh no.

Teza grabbed Iolana's arm and spoke in a rush. "I think her was Kimmy, Cres said they celebrate her and it didn't make sense but if she is actually a tiefling then it does." She didn't let go of Iolana, instead trying to move her closer to Brucilde. Speaking to the guard she made sure to thicken her accent to appear more foreign. "Please, our boss is going to worry. At the Honeyed Blackmore, we can answer questions there."

Her surprised deepened when Teza grabbed her arm suggested that Kimmy was involved or the target. Allowing Teza to guide her over to Brucilde. "Do you think Kimmy is involved or just a target of jealousy? " She asks in a whisper.

 

Realizing what Teza was trying to do,  Io starts speaking to the guards in Varisian. "Yes! Yes!. We need to get back to the Honeyed Blackmore. (Io points at the people on the ground.) Some of these brigands . . .

Realizing her "mistake", she switches back to the more common Taldan. Oops! sorry. I was saying that some of them  are only unconscious and not dead.

Broke amd unemployed as he is, as soon as Gareth hears the guard is near he bends to search the fallen brigands. He ignores the confused child as she runs past with her comrades. Whatever trouble and confusion they've caused he's fairly certain he wants no more part in it.

"Oh no, you don't," Nera said as the halfling tried to run off. She tried to trip the girl to hold her here for questioning. And she did have a lot of questions. But she misjudged and fell down herself. Quickly getting back up, the opportunity was gone.

"We best go after them, no?"
