Act 1 - Entering the dead lands

Nyll easily finds the loft hatch but needs someone taller to pull the hatch down and fold out the stairs, heading up to the loft space the party find two more skeletons (mon & dad?) and a box of assorted items.

George

AfterGeorge.jpg.17210a86b48f21cfd728ce8045c9b7ce.jpg being initially spooked, George helped where he could during the event, and helped Nyll up to access the loft space. Upon them finding the other dead he helps bring them to Rand who appears to be performing burial rights. George works soundlessly out of respect for the dead, taking note of the loot but doing the more important task first (besides, the boots look nice but otherwise not for him)

George will look around outside to use some of the extra energy, and, honestly, keep an eye out for ghouls. offering up a prayer to Erastil, George returns to a vigil, a quiet, "I really hate ghouls" being stated. When everyone's ready to head out George will be thankful, this was good shelter, but ghosts mean it's time to move along.

Once done with his grizzly duty Rand takes other Waterskin takes a few gulps and offers it to George. "They are very few undead I hate. Vampires, Liches...Mummies sometimes. Ghouls, Ghasts, Zombies, and their kind do what nature made them. Survivors adrift on an open sea would like to think they would never stoop so low. But when hunger gets so hard that they are an inch from a frenzy, they will eventually eat. How are they different from ghouls? Yet 9 times out of 10 they meet no repercussions, why would they? The other prospect was death. Don't judge a man until you walk a mile in his shoes and all that bollocks."

Unusually serious drunkard Paladin begins preparing to leave "Save your hate for beings who do evil willingly, out of choice, and just because they bloody enjoy it. Unfortunately, you'll find that the majority of those look like anyone in our party on the outside. That's why I come to these cursed parts every 5-6 years. To relax from killing Humans, Elves, Dwarves, and all other people who stood at the crossroads and willingly took the wrong path. Here I can just relax and swing my sword, 99% of things are evil in these wastes just because they are made that way. It clears my mind. Centers me for return to the "real" world."

George.jpg.17210a86b48f21cfd728ce8045c9b7ce.jpgTaking a few moments to weigh Rands words, and take a couple sips, George responds. "According to our priests nature doesn't make the undead, but my problem with ghouls is simple."

"They're like people, they once were people, but while they still have the memories and capabilities they once did, they no longer are capable of acting as friends or family."

Thinking on it a bit George tells a story:

"Down south I was hired as a guard and we passed a property being attacked, we intervened of course to discover the ghastly scene. The monsters had killed 2 before they were noticed and managed another 3 before we arrived. We were able to help prevent much further casualties but lost one of our own as well. On asking how they got past the guard, we learned the ghouls were led by the owners third son, an adventurer who'd been missing. It led the assault on a target it knew, against it's own."

going quieter and holding tighter to the water skin George continues, "We later had to put down Bertrand, he's already died, but, well, ghouls... I suppose it's not ghouls I hate, it's knowing that could be me, I could be a danger to my loved ones and my community, and I wouldn't even be me enough to care. I'll happily take death given that choice".

Nyll sighed to herself as she realized sometimes she's often too prepared. As she lets the other speak, she isn't here strictly to look for treasure or fame, but to get revenge. She didn't like to feel weighed down and between her current set of skills, she finds none of it interesting.

"I'm taking one of the potions to hide from undead, the rest you can figure out." she says, as she begins to look out the window for anything that may be watching them, deciding not to join in on the conversation about undead, but she does pay attention.

SpheresYuki.png.607f4f156adade97a8248471538a021d.pngAs the party rejoins her and a conversation begins about ghouls and undead, Yuki packs up a now very dirty Daisuke. He seems inordinately pleased with himself as he settles back into his carrier to nap. The witch herself stays out of the conversation unless spoken to directly. She has only academic knowledge on the undead, and this doesn't seem like the time to talk about cold, logical facts. Not that George's description of observed behavior is likely to be wrong. Ghouls are probably some of the most vile undead that you are likely to encounter.

Paladin shrugs "I CAN be angry at Ghouls, but what is there to hate? Even in your example, they were led by a Human, they are, usually, created by people or intelligent undead. And left to their desires they will do what any animal does, feed." There is a moment of pause like Rand is trying to find the right words

"I find something especially repulsive in intent to do evil, more so than the act itself. If this family was killed by bandits, then there would be something to hate. Ghouls killed them because they were there or because they were pushed by a greater intelligence. It did not matter to Ghouls if it was this family or any other, just that it was something to sate hunger. Killing unintelligent undead is like clearing weed, they are harmful therefore we kill them. But they are also easily recognizable, you won't go into a tavern and sit next to a Ghoul. But sit next to any of the sentient Races not inherently Evil you would. Still, that same guy you are sharing the ale with maybe wants to get you drunk so he can more easily slit your throat later in the dark of the alley. Now, there is something I can hate."

Rand abruptly stops seeing that others are exiting the house and listening, it's hard to see on his leathery skin but it seems like he slightly blushed "Bah, I'm no preacher. Maybe Aidan is better to talk to about that than me. As for the stuff, I got my nice garb yesterday, if there is a leftover healing potion once all take their spoils I'll take that. You can never have too much healing."

Tanith, clearly a little exasperated, begins passing out the magic (new thread shows who and what), muttering something about it being 'no use dumped in a bag'.

She shrugs at Rand's soliliquy. "I just kill undead on sight, but it's a 'them or us' kinda deal for me.. I don't get angry about it. Bad folk? Well putting them down's my bread and butter... I do the job and I get paid. Again, for me, it's a 'them or us' kinda deal. I've got no qualms about killing, indeed I rather enjoy it, but that's not the reason I do it. Rather, I gain a deal of satisfaction from putting someone down who otherwise would leave nothing but a trail of anguish and misery in their wake. I'm on the side of creation, not destruction. You only need to kill mean bastards, but mean bastards you need to kill. Heard that once in a stage play and it stuck because I agreed with it."

"I should point out that I'm out here for the money, the whole burn and purify deal is just the icing on the cake."

Mizzi gave Yuki the blouse and said "enjoy", she then settled in for the night by making sure all the curtains were closed and that no light could escape. Looking at the others she asked "fire or no fire and who is taking what watch? I will go first so let me know who is going to take 2nd" she asked?

Maybe she can figure out how to change that later. "For fire, I don't mind either way. Only extreme cold affects me these days; a benefit of being a Witch. I will take second watch if nobody else desires it. I may stay up some to examine and try to learn from some of those magical scrolls we picked up if nobody else wants them." She keeps her voice even and calm, waiting patiently for any objections or rebuttals.

Rand drops his backpack on the ground and sits leaning on it with a large sword over his lap and fussing with small pockets of the backpack to get whetstone, rag, and all he needs for the maintenance of the weapon. On second thought since they started it seemed Paladin hadn't lifted the hand from the weapon. He even slept with arms wrapped around it. Which would explain a few scars he had at odd places on his forearms when he removed armor for sleep and maintenance.

"I'm an early riser I can take the last shift, it will give me time to memorize spells while all get-up." He begins sharpening the weapon, and removing scratches from it. Taking an occasional sip from the waterskin-turned-wineskin.
