Book 2: Chapter 4 - Homeward Bound?

spacer.pngHer words fell onto deaf ears; the captain was too far gone for her to have any chance to reason with him, and she doubted that any other of her companions would fare any better with the crew. By necessity, the negotiations would have to be carried out by weapons.

She prepared to perform a forward thrust, seeing that something strange was happening to her blade; but at that moment her enemy's face changed, and became a grotesque mockery of her own. Her stance became a lot less sure, and her sword-hand begun to shake, and for a moment she forgot that this was only a trick...

OOC

That's a fail, so I think Iphigenia is out for the time being! Sorry team!

Stavard, having spent his effort to quickly dispatch the first specter, tries to catch his breath before again contending with the second....

Maybe if he got some breathing room he could help fend off the Captain. But one thing at a time...

Karadoon
bZsmmIb.png

The ghostly opponents scored two quick hits. Karadoon glanced worredly at his injuries, it was the first time he had ever been given a wound by the unliving, he was afraid of some ill effect taking hold. As he stepped into his next swing nothing felt amiss, so he pushed the fear from his mind.

"You'll be staying dead this time I wager!"

Late Summer - Day 88, After Midnight

GhostShip.png.aa55e30eae88a130c654c7bed1939361.pngThe ghostly sailors endure the blows of Karadoon and Brother Koji, while Iphigenia and Stavard prepare themselves for what is to come. The Captain, rather than staying with Iphigenia, instead flies to Karadoon, seemingly to prepare to swarm him!

Dungeon Master

Iphigenia remains stunned this round.

Looks like I had a bad string on that second attack v. Karadoon, looks like the first d20 roll was a 3, so shock damage only from both ghosties.

Stavard reels from the blow but then responds in kind. Foul spirit! The abyss calls you and I will not see you disregard those dark susurrations!

The sailor turned warrior was of a curious breed, as accustomed to the pitched battle as he was to the pitch and heave of the salt spattered deck. This now let him deal a hearty blow to something which had no heart of flesh and no red blood for it to pump.

Seeing it withstand his blow, Stavard desperately lunged again, hoping to beat his foe with a quick strike before the phantasm could once again tear at Stavard's still living flesh.

Karadoon

One of the spirits bedeviling Iphigenia had shifted it's attention. Why? Thought Karadoon. Hard pressed as he was, he had little time to do more than note the behavior

Late Summer - Day 88, After Midnight

GhostShip.png.aa55e30eae88a130c654c7bed1939361.pngStavard and Karadoon's divinely-blessed weapons, compliments of Brother Koji, each destroy ghosts they are facing - their bodies once again disarticulating into smaller and smaller pieces until they disappear. However, three ghosts remain, with two facing Karadoon and one trying to get around Brother Koji's shield!

Dungeon Master

Iphigenia is NO LONGER stunned, and can act as normal.

Karadoon
bZsmmIb.png

Karadoon hoped fervently that his opponent would not simply reappear at his back as he turned to face the Captain; or at least what he took to be the former Captain of these things. The last spirits he had fought before been vanquished through magic....

"We are gaining ground! Keep on them!"

spacer.pngIphigenia shook her head, and looked ahead of her. How long had she been out of it? Time had seemed to stand still, but as soon as she came to, she instantly noticed that the hideous undead that had assailed her was no longer standing before her. The sound of clashing weapons filled her ears, and she realized that it could not have been long-but the possibility of an ally injured while she was thus ensorcelled filled her with doubt.

Not far from her, Karadoon was still struggling against two. Without much thought, she charged his enemies, not realizing that one of them was the dreaded captain.

OOC

Trying to charge and attack the ghost attacking Karadoon (not the captain, the other one). +2 Attack, -2 AC for the rest of the round.

Edit: That's probably a miss, so I won't roll for damage.

Late Summer - Day 88, After Midnight

GhostShip.png.aa55e30eae88a130c654c7bed1939361.pngKaradoon is quickly getting swarmed, however the works of Brother Koji and Stavard free everyone up to focus on the remaining two. With Iphigenia and Karadoon on one side, and Brother Koji and Stavard on the other, the outcome of the battle seems set - the inflection point has passed.

So too do the sailors on the Philadelphia make the same conclusion. With water rushing in from below, one races up from below and tries to jump from the Philadelphia to the Ghost Ship. Rather than simply passing through, the sailor lands and, in wonderment, says, "I think she's... seaworthy?"
