Kaspar raises an eyebrow at the plan, but parts willingly enough with his hat and takes the other cloak, puts it on and raises the hood. “We better move fast, because it takes a somewhat daft observer to mistake a man for a woman, so we better keep the distance as big as possible.

"My lover?  Who could that be?"  Caeelyn says as she removes her cloak and hands it to Ehrick.  With is permission she takes Kaspar's hat, looks inside it before putting it on, then throws Ehrick's too-large cloak on.  The hat also falls down over her eyes and she pushes it back so she can see.  "I'm not too sure about this, but the East Gate is just over that way a couple of blocks," she says and starts walking towards it.

Ehrick, caelyn and Kaspar then proceed to the East gate.  As she turns the last corner bringing the gate in sight she stops dead about 50 feet from the gate.  There is some traffic coming and going, there are four Legionnaires posted there, and there is another group of three men:  one dressed in rich clothing of fine silks and bright colors, a rapier at his side, tall and handsome.  The other two have the look of hired mercenaries in leather armor and with short swords in scabbards.  It seems the elf maid and the finely dressed man spot each other at the same time.  "Kaylin!" he calls out and she rolls her eyes with a mix of emotions dominated by frustration.

"The mill?" she asks quickly, pointing to the mill just South of the gate, the water wheel turning in the river current.

Unless you stole something from him and he can have you arrested, I say we keep heading for the gate. He is not going to try to abduct you right in front of all these guards.

Ehrick stops what little attempt he was making to look like Caelyn. He stands ready to follow her and his hands are on his weapon handles.

"Huh.  I always just run away," Caelyn says apparently genuinely confused by the suggested course of action.  "But that is young Master Ambercrown, son of one of the League's merchant 'princes'.  It is so hard for him to take 'no' as an answer,"  she adds as the man and his bodyguards approach.  The three of you move towards the gate and they intercept about 30 feet from it.

"Kaylin!  My lovely, I've had men looking all over town for you.  I wanted to renew my offer," Ambercrown says as they approach, mispronouncing her name to which she flinches ever so slightly.  "You left in such a hurry; did these ruffians take you from me?"  He asks indicating Ehrick and Kaspar.

"I don't want to marry you, or anyone, Randal," she replies, handing Kaspar his hat back.

OOC NoteEhrick can see that the four mercenaries from the market are coming up the road in this direction. they are looking about and don't seem to have spotted you yet.

Actually, we were escorting her to safety when a group of men tried to abduct her against her will. We helped her get away from them. Matter of fact those four men are approaching now. I am guessing you hired them. You might to explain to them that taking someone against their will is kidnapping and that is against the law. I am sure you had no intention of them breaking any laws while trying to find her. So now that she has expressed her desire not to go with you the whole thing is settled and we will be on our way.

Ehrick speaks loud enough that the guards can hear. He is hoping they are not on this mans payroll, or his fathers for that matter, too. And that Randal will not want to cause an issue right in front of the guards. Especially when Ehrick just explained the situation out loud for all to hear.

Randal Ambercrown looks Ehrick up and down as though seeing him for the first time.  "Are you questioning my honor and integrity, sir," he says with disdain and menace in his tone.  Were it not for the arrogance displayed he would be quite handsome, standing almost six feet tall with dark hair and blue eyes.  Caelyn looks suddenly more alert and slightly alarmed.

Kaspar chimes in “Quite the contrary good sir, my companion has stated very clearly that he doesn’t believe that you could act in such a dishonorable fashion as to having a lady abducted. Me on the other hand am not so sure, but I believe you are not so stupid of trying todo something rash right now.”

"That I will most certainly assume to be an insult and challenge!" Randal says at Kaspar's statement.  He steps back and throws his glove down at Kaspar's feet.  "Pick that up and accept my challenge, or begone from here like the coward you are," He says loudly, loud enough for everyone in the vicinity to hear.

Ehrick was just about to respond when Kaspar speaks up with a very rude response. He shakes his head and then places a hand on Caelyin shoulder and starts leading her over by the guards.

I am going to step over there with the nice lady and observe this from a safe distance. Wouldn't want her accidentally hurt now would we.

He turns to Kaspar.

Good luck.

As Caelyn and he get a little distance from Randal and his men he whispers to her.

Once this fights and everyone is watching we walk out the gate nice and calmly. If they start to follow why don't you tell a guard that these men are harassing you and keep trying to make you go with them and ask for their help. Maybe your charms will work and they can delay Randal and his men.

Kaspar looks Randal calmly up and down, before responding just loud enough for the immediate bystanders to hear him " What makes you think this is a good idea? You take me for a bumbling fool not standing the slightest chance against a master swordsman like you? As I don't care for getting hanged for murder, let me set you straight about a few things. As the master swordsman you evidently are, you are aware that nothing is as important as speed, agility, experience and training to a good duelist. If you haven't noticed I'm not strictly human. Meaning my silver hair is not a sign of aged decrepitude. I have elven blood running trough my veins. Meaning I have been wielding and practicing with my rapier more years than you have been treading this earth. On speed and agility my kind has always the advantage over your kind anyhow."

Kaspar keeps his eyes locked at the other man. "If you really wish it, draw your sword and try to run me through. But you will be on your own, none of your sell swords will be able to assist you and still claiming this was a duel. On the other hand I might end up rather dead, in which case you will need to explain to the Grandduchess why her favorite bard won't be available next week. I'm sure she understands."

Dropping his voice so that only Randal can hear him putting all the persuasion he is capable of into it "Or you might just step away, hoping to find me again under more beneficial circumstances. I don't hold grudges, I also have no surviving enemies."

Kaspar readies himself for the response thinking to himself "Let's hope he is smarter than he looks and walks away, I'd hate to get more blood on those clothes."

OOC Kaspar would really prefer to have him walk away, but he is willing to fight and kill.

One of Ambercrown's men whistles loudly to get the attention of the four from the market as the other one moves to intercept Ehrick and Caelyn from leaving the immediate area.  Randal Ambercrown turns to them and says, "our business is not concluded, please do not run off again."

He then turns his attention back to Kaspar.  "You are something of a braggart I see.  It is customary in these lands for the challenged to choose the time and place for the duel, though it must be today and before sundown.  If you care, you may defer that to my choice, in which case you may choose the weapons.  You are, of course, encouraged to bring a second," he explains crossing his arms and waiting for Kaspar to accept the duel.  The other four come up, the one Kaspar fought in the market nodding his acknowledgement tot he half-elf, as they form up behind Randal.

Caelyn leans in on her toes to whisper to Ehrick.  "The legionnaires won't care, they are not peacekeepers, their only responsibility it defense of the city.  The Guild Guard handles peacekeeping and Randal here is the deputy constable..."

Kaspar replies in a very polite tone "I choose not to defer to you, there is a pavilion south of the city gate, meet me and my companions there in 2 hours, this should amply satisfy your need to resolve this issue before sundown.  I'm not going to comment on you calling me a Braggart, as that will be clarified in two hours time anyway. So enjoy the rest of your days."

He walks past Randal, looks at Ehrick and Caelyn and tilts his head towards the gate. Towards which he proceeds to stride with confidence.

"I will see you there, in two hours," Randal says.  Then he turns to Caelyn and Ehrick.  "And now, shall we continue our discussion, my lady?"

Caelyn looks at Ehrick and Kaspar with a exasperation.  "I do not believe we have any further business, and this foolish duel business is to resolve that.  So why don't we discuss it after that, hm?"  She says to him folding her arms.

"What assurance do I have that you will be there?  You already reneged on your word once," he says looking smug but also somewhat concerned.

She has no reason to run anywhere. You already asked her to come with you and she said no. That is the end of it. So she can go where she pleases now and you can get on with your life without her. We will be at the pavilion he mentioned. My friend here is all about honor, ask your man there, so if he says he will be there then he will be there. I am willing to act as his second if he wishes. So unless you wish to attack us in broad daylight and try to abduct this woman against her will, we will be on our way.

He will direct Caelyn to move after Kaspar. If any of the men try to grab her he will pull his sword halfway and step between them.

Touch her and you will lose your hand!

If they persist then both blades come out and he will do his best to defend her from these kidnappers.
