As you follow along with the tether behind Lars, you notice something in the bottom of the pit at the centre of the room, catching the light as the torch moves along over top.

 

It looks perhaps to be a small sack with some gold spilled out at the base of the pit.

A thorough inspection of the door tells you that while there does not seem to be any traps that are likely to spring here to harm you, it does perhaps sport some kind of a complex locking mechanism, and would not be easy to open.
