"I'm inclined to agree with Ethel." Nodded Murdain. If he were in the mayor's position, he'd also try to keep this duo closer - if they blab about what their research target was, it would be, at best, very awkward - or something worse, with Sola's order in town, maybe. Perhaps Barkvin would have something to say about them, but to the dwarf, they were simply 'an order'. The sigil on the soldiers' armor, however, puzzled him: why would anyone take a beholder as their heraldics? If accompanied by Sola's paladins, then could be it was fine - but regular folk didnt come to the Vale. Had they fallen? Perhaps a word passed to his contact in the Valefort could gain some insight into what order they belonged to. Their crimes did not interest him. "...Aria, listen, I keep hearing mention of 'risking the full moon'. We've run into those fellows last time, but... There somethin' I'm missing?"

  "Ohhh Ved, don't be rude. Paladins are good people. They fight monsters and save people. Maybe he'll help us with the Shadow and I bet he wont even take a share of the bounty."

 

 Once they get to a clearing, she tells all the kids to stay behind Ved. Then she begins pulling this bright green energy from the sword and focuses it on the stone block. And then... a thunderous explosion rocks it.

 

OOC: does damage matter? I'll roll just in case. This is Shatter.

Wandering through the town as a cat seemed fine, and finding Aaliyah was easy enough.  So Souris found a warm and dry spot and lid down for a short rest.  Then mentally messaged Ved.  ~let me know if you need me... like if Aaliyah accidentally blows up a kid or something.~

Aaliyah and Ved.

 

 You blast the stone and the soldiers that just came in rush over to see what happened. Some of the kids cheer but some grab Ved's legs snd hide behind him. The stone is crushed and for a brief moment you see enough of the blade to note its a dull gray stoney colored straight sword with a single edge. Then the stone regenerates itself...

 "Oh, I was just reading about that," Aria replies excitedly. "The Vale has historically had werewolves in it and even when entire packs get killed, the number always recover. Well, look at this."

 

 She awkwardly digs out one of the journals, holding her pack with her teeth and flips to a page with a sketch of a wolf with two heads on it. "ItlkslikeLunahdabemoir," she grunts and her sister takes the strap out of her mouth. "The Empyrean either wasn't Sola's or Luna had a kid to and it was here or close to here. Grimforge, the librarian who made these, mentioned a village somewhere where a cult that worshipped this wolf lived and he thinks they were making more werewolves. Maybe they still are.. maybe this Empyrean is still alive and just laying low. Its so exciting!"

Souris yawned and stretched, rolling to get a bit more sun.  She spoke to Ved while looking at him upside-down and pawing into the air.  ~There was probably some instructions in that library... some way to get it out of the stone.  Ask the nerd, or try saying some of the words that were about.  I wonder if it was the paladin's sword?~

  "Ohhhh that didn't work well. It regrew the rock!" She goes to the sword and kneels down next to it, one hand on the hilt and just feeling it. "This must be strong magic, some kind of enchantment to keep just anyone from taking the sword. One of the first spells wizards learn is how to identify how enchantments are made and what they do. If you knew a wizard, they could probably tell you a lot... but this sword was being used by that golem. Golems are powerful magic so this may be also."

 

 Aaliyah wasn't strong at maths or economics but magic she knew.

After cleaning up the wreck of the cabin and fashioning a new marker for Sylavania's grave, the cleric of Sola offered a humble prayer for the soul of this poor woman and that peace would return to the Vale.  It had taken him the better part of the morning to get things looking 'decent'.  He went over and patted Ernie, the horse, while he finished eating.  Then Barkvin climbed back into the saddle and rode over to the camp where he had first met his new companions.  He approached slowly, having been attacked here twice.  Still there was something that he must do.  He dismounts and collects the remnants of the creature and the items still left at the camp, then he digs a shallow grave and buries it all.  Raising his hands high to Sola the sun goddess he asks her to bless and watch over this site where a peaceful camp became a place of conflict and destruction.  Before leaving he collects some fire wood and leaves it next to the ring of stones, that perhaps some weary traveler might find comfort here.  Having completed the tasks he set for himself the shadows were starting to get long so he mounted up for the ride back into town.  Perhaps he would stop by the lake for a quick wash before going back.  Dust and sweat from a long day were the only rewards he had to show for his efforts.

"Can you tell me what the stone is, what the sword is, and how to get the one out from t'other?"

 This is assuming Souris and Aaliyah follow Ved. If you two do not follow him, that's fine, let me know what you're getting up to and I'll jump in.

 

 Ethel flinches as Ved rolls into the tavern dragging the heavy stone block behind him. Ser Gavan jumps slightly at the entry, even reaching for his mace, unsure of whether or not the scruffier man had decided to come make a go of it. When Ved just walked to the girls, he released the mace at his side but continued to eyeball them. 

 

 Ved. You don't have to go the room to find the girls. Instead, you find them standing in the common room with Murdain already. They've got all their packs made up and it looks like they're leaving. "Oh, you are all just so full of questions. Did our little adventure turn everyone into future scholars," Aria teases quietly.

 

 "You want... I can but... I need a very very expensive component. A pristine pearl and I doubt it's gonna be something you get your hands on easy," Ethel offers.

 Sorry but I'm gonna interrupt your plans a bit!

 

 You go to Sylvania's house and begin trying to tidy it up. With the main support to the front door having collapsed however, you'd have to crawl in through the window to do very much. If anyone tries to claim this land in the future, they'll likely have to demolish the hut and rebuild it. However, coming here is revelatory. The two shadow spawn you killed earlier are gone, as if their essence simply dissipated back to the Shadowfel.

 

 You do what you set out to do and start to leave when, "Sacerdote de la diosa del sol, ¿eres tú quien mató a las sombras aquí?" A man steps out of the woods, the same man from the Mory house. A taller man wearing helmet that's the skull of a giant snake, it's fangs framing his face, it's skin flowing down into a scaled cloak. He has an aphame, a ceremonial dagger, at his side. You know that this weapon is to Umbra clerics as the mace is to Sola's followers. The serpent is also traditionally used as a symbol for many Umbral cults.

 

 He holds his hands out to the side though, the universal sign "I come in peace." There is no sign of the Skorn.

"What under the bloody moon is a 'Lunadamoir'?" Murdrain stared incredulously. "Sounds like those fancy dishes from the south I kept being asked to try." The rest of the comprehensible information was... Well, it fairly disturbing. A village that 'made' werewolves that worshipped a maybe-demigod son of Luna? Real mixed feelings about that one. Grimforge was... the scholar whose study they dug up, he guessed. Was Bear always a werewolf? These sort of things had to have been known about him... Ved knew of the bastard too, maybe he knew he had a quirk like that? Or did he get this once he arrived at the Vale? 

He followed the source of noise and mentally groaned at merc dragging the stone slab everywhere. That poor floor... The innkeep was gonna eviscerate him. "I think he just prefers a sword to a mace." Murdain answered in the same tone as Aria. "Quite subtle. If you learn anything about this place, let me know, eh?"

"Sounds expensive." Ved considers the options. The old man would have pearls in his hoard, wherever it was kept, but damned if he would ask that man for a single copper. He catches sight of the expensively-armoured paladin. 

"Your mistress a benevolent type? Funding good works and such? Museums? What we have got here is some ancient artefact, recovered from our recent whatchcallit. Archaeological dig. Could she be persuaded to donate two pearls to help the research of this up-and-coming scholar?"
