He was just getting ready to leave the cabin when the other cleric approached.  The language was strange, but he recognized one word, 'sol'.  This man recognized the symbol on Barkvin's shield.  They may worship different goddesses and speak different languages but they did have something in common.  He patted Ernie and turned around holding his hands out copying the gesture of peace.  He tries to communicate.  "Argh, No hob low s pan yall.  Sorry, I don't speak your language, but I respect you as a follower of Umbra.  Do you understand my tongue?"  He asks.

OOC:  I understood that we had wrecked the cabin.  Barkvin would have crawled in and tried to clean up and make sure that the cabin was as safe as he could.

Barkvin.

 

  The man hisses, baring his teeth in frustration and begins digging in his pouch. He speaks words you don't quite understand but do sense the origin of, as if his magic and your own must come from the same ultimate root language. As he speaks his magic, he pulls out a pinch of ash and mud and begins rubbing it together in a ball.

 

 The ash seems to become shadow for a moment. Then he pinches the clay like ball into a tiny disk and hands it to you. "Comer," he says, miming his hand to his mouth as if eating something. "Comer, Sola hombre."

Souris stretched.  She liked being a cat, almost as much as she liked being a wolf, but for very different reasons, as a wolf she felt like she may actually enjoy being around kids, as a cat... well, they we more a bother than anything.  

At the in she overheard the requirement of a pearl and wondered ~Would there be any of these pearls in the lake?~

Barkvin was quite surprised to find himself communicating with a priest of Umbra.  The way he saw it all of the goddesses had their place and purpose it the universe.  He took the disk and smiled giving a nod of thanks and touching his hand to his chin.  He takes a sniff of the disk and mimics eating it.  "Comer?"  He repeats the unfamiliar word and looks the priest in the eyes trying to get a read on him.

 

Mechanics

Move: none

Action: insight on the priest.  Barkvin is trying to tell if the priest is giving him this to poison him or if this is something that will help them communicate. (rolled a dirty 20)

Bonus Action: none

 

OOC:  To speed things up.  If Barkvin trusts the Priest based on his insight roll, then he will eat the disk.

Souris considered the options, she was sure there were pearls in the lake, finding them may be a little difficult but she did have a trick for that. She spoke her thoughts to Ved.~There should be pearls in the lake, finding one of quality could be difficult, but who knows if Omnus might be able to help.  I can prepare a spell to locate an object which could speed the process up.  It would have to wait until tomorrow though.~

  Inn People

 

"And now you ask for generosity? You may ask her yourself, for she comes soon." Galan replies, arrogantly amused by Veds request.

 

 "Oh, no thanks. I don't accept things from holy knight anyway," Ethel remarks, walking towards the doors with her bags. "It always comes with a price I'm not willing to pay."

 

Galan watches her walk away and starts to say something but decides not to. He just goes back to his business securing extra rooms until the new house is finished.

 

 Aria puts a backpack in Ved's hands and hands another to Murdain. "If you're both going to be picking our brains, you can carry bags to the mayors house."

 

 She doesn't speak again until they get outside. "Forgive Ethel, please. Our father fled to the Vale because he killed a paladin. He always said the man deserved it, that he was after our mother, but he never said why. She... really hates paladins."

Murdain didnt comment further and accepted the backpack - he was going to offer to help regardless, so he swung the pack onto his shoulder and walked over with the rest of them until they were outside. There was a lot to think about. When Aria spoke, it broke his train of thought and the dwarf shook his head with a sigh. "There's no trouble. I remember." Murdain's own views on paladins were not nearly as severe; adherence to a strict code he could understand and appreciate, but in the end... People were people. Some were just... assholes. "If I'm to guess, Mayor Creed may also be keeping you away from them. General Olin seems to trust him, and he's... beyond scrutiny." He shook his head. "So what were you trying to say when you had the bag in your mouth?" He decided to change the conversation to something less unhappy.

Barkvin.

 

 The man seems too competent with his magic to blatantly cast a spell to poison you while you watch. He taps his mouth again, "comer." Your gut tells you its safe and you eat the makeshift pill. It tastes like gritty ash and immediately you feel this oily kind of magic wash over you.

 

 You realize immediately how different your magics are. While they do the same thing, light magic feels like a cool breeze on a warm day. This magic feels like running your fingers through greasey, oily hair.

 

 But as the spell takes hold, the other man speaks. "Do you hear me, sun man? Yes, now you hear."

Aaliyah, Callisto and Souris.

 

  You make a round of the town, returning kids to their parents. Aaliyah is quickly becoming a friend to many of the townsfolk. Her helping with the children is a great boon and that she has convinced people she's good with a sword makes them feel safer.

   The new people watch her differently. Quite lovely and showy with her look, many of the laborers openly ogle her while the new soldiers in town watch her with a mixture of wary caution and... a bit of ogling also.

  

 Aaliyah.

 

  You return the last child and start to meet back with your friends when you hear a familiar whisper. "Come..." says the voice, a voice only you can hear.

 "Thats all I know so far," the scholar replies. "I think this wolf has some kind of beast cult. If we knew where those bandits got bit, it could help find them... if you wanted to find them. Why would you? 

 

 "Anyway, I'm gonna be weeks digging through all this and we have to go south soon. We got a lead on a cartographer who may have a map of the area before it was the Vale. Thats useful. This librarian served some elven lord who lived somewhere in the Vale and there might be more to be found in his keep."

  She lifted her head and closed her eyes, one ear tilted up slightly. "Oh.. time to go to the little girl's room," she says to Callisto, who was awkwardly following her around all day. She starts towards the inn but ducks around behind the stables suddenly, as if to just make a quick use of a quick bit of privacy. The moment she's out of sight, she will cast Misty Step to go inside the stable and then exit out the other side and disappear, shushing her horse friends as she goes.

 

 Her course takes her outside the gates, where there's less people around. "Mom?"

Callisto narrows her eyes as Aaliyah suddenly leaves but she doesn't press. That girl was a mystery. But now she has nothing to pique her interest and she makes her way back towards the Inn, maybe they had found something out about the sword.
