Hamàrr listens intently to the tale of the Scarlet Triad, and it all sounds like bad news. Robbery, extortion, and slaving, something must be done to stop them. This will be a good test of his new party's character and strength.

Passing through the gates, he's taken aback by the horrific scene. Defaced carvings and a shattered statue, unfortunately this looks beyond even his repair.

At sea with the clues presented here, Kyros looks to the other Bravos for some idea just what is going on in this liminal space.

Kyros doesn't have any of those skills or languages.

Bul'Ro does not even try to hide his disappointment as he agrees to remain behind so that Kuz'Arak can train Kajimara. He sulks off to one side, but still within eyesight until you go downstairs to Alsetta's Ring.

Fortunately, Dackle is also nearby to see Drasil the team off. Her excitement for his your adventure is surely real. She holds tightly to Bul'Ro as you leave.

This room is decorated with tiny, glowing points of light and scratched carvings of butterflies. Upon a short dais at one end between two hallways are two delicate bare feet apparently carved from stone. Chunks of shattered stone around the dais hint at the fate of the rest of the statue. Nailed to the wall above the dais is the preserved corpse of a hideously ugly gray-skinned horned woman. The wall behind her once bore a written message in flowing script, but it’s been scratched out and replaced by a new phrase.

The corpse's withered hand bears an expensive looking ring and a gem on a silver chain.

Garion figured that if he'd wait long enough, wise Kuz'Arak would entertain everyone with the tale of the Scarlet Triad. He was not disappointed. After Kuz'Arak is done, Garion grins and says, "He took the words right out of my mouth."

The next day, Garion steps through the Dreamgate with the others. He gasps upon seeing the nightmare room of death.

Religion, DC 15

Perception w/ Elven, DC 20

Society, DC 26

Garion realizes what this all means when he feels Kuz'Arak's reassuring hand on his shoulder. The gnome says quietly, "She deserves better than this. If we find the ones that desecrated this shrine, they'll feel my wrath."

Garion tears his eyes from the crumbled statue to study the repulsive body nailed to the wall. Indicating the corpse, he says, "This looks like a night hag. It shall not remain in this sacred place." As he approaches to deal with it, he notices the withered hand is wearing a ring with a silver chain. The sorcerer casts Detect Magic on the ring and attempts to identify it. Once he IDs it, he passes the ring around. Then he turns to Drasil, "Care to help me with this corpse, my friend -- it doesn't belong here."

[Can we get any information about the magic/mundane ring & chain?]

Behind the corpse on the wall, Garion studies the vile language scratching out the beautiful flowing elven which once read, "Praise to Desna for Sweet Dreams." Instead, some vile writing has scratched over it. Since no one can read it, a distraught Garion wastes no time and chants, "proper praise to read this phrase" and casts Comprehend Language allowing the entire party to read the Abyssal script: "Praise to Abelstia, for Succulent Nightmares." Garion turns to the group, "Has anyone heard of this 'Abelstia'? Is she the hag who dares to desecrate Desna's shrine?"

Before leaving this area, Garion does what he can to restore the area to some of its former natural beauty.

[Note: Garion spent a 4th level spell slot for Comprehend Languages. We can all speak Abyssal for 1 hr. Including Kajimara.]

Nalah listens to Kuz'Arak's story with great interest. Like Hamàrr, she reacts negatively when she hears about slavery.

When going to Alseta's Ring, she follows the party, staying quiet as she doesn't know well her new teammates. Entering the room, her immediate reaction is to seek the shadows (Avoid Notice) to hide from potential enemies. She looks at the different elements of the room.

She listens to Garion. When he starts restoring the area, she whispers to him: "I don't think there's anything left of what this room was considering the desecration that has been done here. I'd prefer to destroy everything and leave no divine trace at all."

Looking at the 2 exits, she tells the party: "I can scout the tunnels a bit, to avoid any danger."

The ring is a Ring of Lies. The gem on the necklace, was her Heartstone. It has lost it's magical power, but is still worth 200gp.

Without any rolls or action, there is no noise coming from either tunnel.

In response to Nalah, Garion admits, "You're probably right that we can't restore the shrine." He pauses and looks around, "But we can't leave it like this. We owe it to Desna to make it presentable." As he's tidying up (casting Prestidigitation spells to clean off the Abyssal scrawl from the Elven), Garion takes the opportunity to speak to Kajimara in Abyssal, "What do you think of the terrible things done here?" He expects the warg will be too confused with the newfound language to respond.

[Dax -- Do we know anything about "Abelstia" mentioned in the Abyssal writing? Can we make Society or Religion checks?]

While helping dispose of the corpse, the sorcerer comments, "Found something ... a Ring of Lies. Until we sell it, does anyone mind if I use it? Might come in handy on the off-chance we need to talk our way out of mischief." For the first time in several minutes, the familiar twinkle in the gnome's eyes return. "There's also a non-magical gem." If no one objects, he tries on the ring and stores the gem in the Bag of Holding.

Seeing the raw emotion from Garion, Hamàrr does his best to help fix the shrine. Maybe a quick slurry will be strong enough to hold the big pieces together....

Crafting

At the mention of gems and gold, excitement starts to build in the Dwarf. Until Garion reveals it's a ring of lies. "Blasphemy, who would ruin such beautiful metal with that abomination of a spell."

Once the shrine is restored as much as possible, he follows Nalah into the next room with his shield held high (Defending).

You spend some time desecrating the desecration of the room. It would take for time and material than you have there to properly rededicate it, though.

Garion nods to Hamarr as the dwarf helps him with the shrine. "Thank you, Hamarr. Trust me when I tell you that Desna appreciates what you've done." When he's restored as much as he can, Garion says a silent prayer to The Great Dreamer before following the group into the next room.

Once there, he takes a close look at the marble willow tree and the stone beds beneath it.

Perception

As Garion is about to indicate a hand-sized indentation in the tree trunk, he's attacked by a large branch. When it does, Garion gives the tree an innocent look with his large adorable teal eyes as he makes an Empathetic Plea to be spared.

Diplomacy

Empathetic Plea

Empathetic Plea

Trigger: You are attacked by a creature that you haven't yet acted hostile toward.

The way you cringe or use those puppydog eyes you've been practicing elicits an empathetic response in the attacker. Attempt a Diplomacy check against your attacker's Will DC.

Critical Success: The creature pulls its attack, wasting its action, and can't use hostile actions against you until the beginning of its next turn.
Success: The creature takes a –2 circumstance penalty to damage on the triggering Strike and all its Strikes against you until the beginning of its next turn. The penalty is –4 if you're an expert in Diplomacy, –6 if you're a master, and –8 if you're legendary.
Failure: The creature's attack is unaffected, and the creature is temporarily immune to your Empathic Pleas for 24 hours.

Summary: On a crit success (Diplomacy vs Will DC), creature pulls its attack. On normal success, there's a -6 circ reduction to damage on all strikes until beginning of its next turn.

Empathetic Plea is so cool, too bad it has been removed from the Remaster. But as it's a reaction, I doubt you can use it on an unexpected attack outside combat.

Nalah reacts quickly and yells "Danger!" while running to Garion. She then tries to extract him from the tree (Reposition technically).

Athletics

If it's a success, Nalah moves Garion one square south of her. If it's a critical success she moves him inside the corridor. Is Garion freed from the grasp or not?
