ScottGell Posted April 24 Clone Share Posted April 24 (edited) Garion figured that if he'd wait long enough, wise Kuz'Arak would entertain everyone with the tale of the Scarlet Triad. He was not disappointed. After Kuz'Arak is done, Garion grins and says, "He took the words right out of my mouth." The next day, Garion steps through the Dreamgate with the others. He gasps upon seeing the nightmare room of death. Religion, DC 15 Perception w/ Elven, DC 20 Society, DC 26 Garion realizes what this all means when he feels Kuz'Arak's reassuring hand on his shoulder. The gnome says quietly, "She deserves better than this. If we find the ones that desecrated this shrine, they'll feel my wrath." Garion tears his eyes from the crumbled statue to study the repulsive body nailed to the wall. Indicating the corpse, he says, "This looks like a night hag. It shall not remain in this sacred place." As he approaches to deal with it, he notices the withered hand is wearing a ring with a silver chain. The sorcerer casts Detect Magic on the ring and attempts to identify it. Once he IDs it, he passes the ring around. Then he turns to Drasil, "Care to help me with this corpse, my friend -- it doesn't belong here." [Can we get any information about the magic/mundane ring & chain?] Behind the corpse on the wall, Garion studies the vile language scratching out the beautiful flowing elven which once read, "Praise to Desna for Sweet Dreams." Instead, some vile writing has scratched over it. Since no one can read it, a distraught Garion wastes no time and chants, "proper praise to read this phrase" and casts Comprehend Language allowing the entire party to read the Abyssal script: "Praise to Abelstia, for Succulent Nightmares." Garion turns to the group, "Has anyone heard of this 'Abelstia'? Is she the hag who dares to desecrate Desna's shrine?" Before leaving this area, Garion does what he can to restore the area to some of its former natural beauty. [Note: Garion spent a 4th level spell slot for Comprehend Languages. ScottGell Posted April 25 Clone Share Posted April 25 (edited) In response to Nalah, Garion admits, "You're probably right that we can't restore the shrine." He pauses and looks around, "But we can't leave it like this. We owe it to Desna to make it presentable." As he's tidying up (casting Prestidigitation spells to clean off the Abyssal scrawl from the Elven), Garion takes the opportunity to speak to Kajimara in Abyssal, "What do you think of the terrible things done here?" He expects the warg will be too confused with the newfound language to respond. [Dax -- Do we know anything about "Abelstia" mentioned in the Abyssal writing? Can we make Society or Religion checks?] While helping dispose of the corpse, the sorcerer comments, "Found something ... a Ring of Lies. Until we sell it, does anyone mind if I use it? Might come in handy on the off-chance we need to talk our way out of mischief." For the first time in several minutes, the familiar twinkle in the gnome's eyes return. "There's also a non-magical gem." If no one objects, he tries on the ring and stores the gem in the Bag of Holding. ScottGell Posted April 26 Clone Share Posted April 26 (edited) Garion nods to Hamarr as the dwarf helps him with the shrine. "Thank you, Hamarr. Trust me when I tell you that Desna appreciates what you've done." When he's restored as much as he can, Garion says a silent prayer to The Great Dreamer before following the group into the next room. Once there, he takes a close look at the marble willow tree and the stone beds beneath it. When it does, Garion gives the tree an innocent look with his large adorable teal eyes as he makes an Empathetic Plea to be spared. Diplomacy Empathetic Plea Empathetic Plea Trigger: You are attacked by a creature that you haven't yet acted hostile toward. The way you cringe or use those puppydog eyes you've been practicing elicits an empathetic response in the attacker. Attempt a Diplomacy check against your attacker's Will DC. Critical Success: The creature pulls its attack, wasting its action, and can't use hostile actions against you until the beginning of its next turn. Success: The creature takes a –2 circumstance penalty to damage on the triggering Strike and all its Strikes against you until the beginning of its next turn. The penalty is –4 if you're an expert in Diplomacy, –6 if you're a master, and –8 if you're legendary. Failure: The creature's attack is unaffected, and the creature is temporarily immune to your Empathic Pleas for 24 hours. Summary: On a crit success (Diplomacy vs Will DC), creature pulls its attack.
