Niko shakes her head at Murdain. She touches her eyes with two fingers and then points back his way. Then she turns to the others. "I think he must have found our stray cat. It cannot, I think, fit through that tunnel. So we know where it is now but it is not our quarry- ssssss," she trails off into an annoyed hiss when she notices Aaliyah has gone down the tunnel the other way. "This child I have known just a few days and already I think she may be my end."

 

She takes this time to drag her hand across the blade of her sword, causing it to freeze over. It would take too long and be too noisy for her to run Aaliyah down so she just has to hope those in the back can support her if she finds something the wrong way. She herself moves down the tunnel towards the end so she can set herself at ease that there's no terrible foe waiting there.

After touching Ved's blade, Barkvin watches everyone wandering off and doing their own thing. He smiles, it was just what he expected would happen. Looking down at Souris the white wolf he asks is a rough whisper. "Aye, which way be our quarry then?"

You slowly approach the farthest room and almost instantly, an inky blackness floods the room and out into the tunnel. Tentacles lunge out at you, covered in tiny maws. Two of them bounce off your much heavier armor, a defense it actually had never encountered before. A third slams you back though and you feel a piercing shriek in your head.

This dip here just leads to some heavy stone pipes but the passage is walled off. It looks like perhaps it was used to maintain something at some poin- a tentacle burst out of one of the pipes and grabs at you. Another comes from a second pipe, this one has an eye-stalk on it, and it pulses with shadowy energy, causing an eruption of wavy black tentacles to erupt from a dark mist filling a portion of the tunnel. You're able to dodge the grabbing tentacle and notice this one is much thinner than the ones before, more agile.

OOC: Your tokens are where you are. Anyone who enters the area with those black tentacles needs to make a DC 15 Dexterity save. If you succeed, the area is considered difficult terrain but that's it. If you fail, you take 3d6 bludgeoning damage and are restrained, unable to move (roll your own damage)

Rejakor, we don't roll initiative. Instead, you act in the order you post. I find this really speeds up PBP combat.

Niko, you take 15 bludgeoning damage and need to make a DC12 constitution check or be poisoned.

Everyone but Rejakor, remember you have advantage on all Int, Wis and Cha saves right now. Sorry Reja, they got a plot boon you missed. You'll be fine. Barbarians never fail mental sav-

 

OH! Anyone near the baby Shadow. If you are within 20 feet, you attack at disadvantage and all checks, including attacks and saves, are made with a -1d6 penalty.

Hmm.

Tentacles erupting from the floor, from the walls, from the pipes. Was this whole area infested with some strange growth? No.

From the shrieking coming from up ahead, there were discrete creatures here too. Big ones, by the sound of it.

Looks like there was work to be done.

The ragged and dirty man raised the hand holding an axe to his mouth, muttering a three word prayer into his hand. Under his fingerless gloves the worn bronze of an ancient ring shined for a moment, outlining a stylized figure of a goddess with her hand raised in benediction.

Without skipping a beat he turned and launched himself into the air as if weightless, swinging oddly in midair as he ran along one of the walls of the not-sewer, weaving between tentacles aimed at where the fox-eared spear-summoner had disappeared behind a writhing wall.

His question was no sooner asked then answered. He wasn't sure that he was glad that this was a baby because it was easier to fight or sorry because they will likely be worn down by the time they meet the mother. In any case it was time to act. He rushes up behind the white wolf and calls upon the goddess for divine aid against this foul creature sending both her holy light and her flaming sword of truth into battle. "Argh, Sol we need ye now to defeat this foe!"

"Oh! I found something!" Aaliyah had hopped back but noticed the tentacles and decided that there was no back. She had to go forward and kill the shadow eye. "I think I can make the grabby stop..." she calls, lunging past the big tentacle to stab at the eyestalk.

The dwarf growled loudly when once again, careful approaches to anything were foiled by lack of direction, or too much freedom. There'd have to be very specific, and very direct, talks in the future, if that existed. No more heroics. Nikolletta engaged with - or was ambushed by - one that was still a baby, by the looks of things, though it was hard to see. On the other end, Aaliyah disappeared behind a wave of tentacles. He knew she wouldnt sit there owing to what she'd done last time, but they had to consolidate their forces to prevent what she was just talking about. Reaching further inside himself, where the voice had fallen to an aggressive low growl, muttering a series of arcane words - he'd plucked a handful of its hate from the most familiar one and lobbed it at the mass of tentacles in front of the Drow, erupting in a shower of venomous blue cascading over the writing mass. "'lia, 'port to us! We need to group up, baby on other tunnel end! Shouldnt fight two fronts!" Murdain barked, hoping she'll listen. He didnt fancy being struck on three fronts either. Best to fall back, if that was even possible. He briefly shut his eyes - unnecessary when doing this, but it helped to block out another sense to momentarily focus - and reached out with his mind towards the drow, fortifying her focus. "Nikoletta, best to disengage if you still can, have it come to us so cat cant squeeze through, and we fight on THREE fronts!" The thought process was simple. The thing could teleport(maybe not the baby), and there may be more of them, but they couldnt all fit into the same space. Even if it squeezed its way into the tunnel, that plugged it up from others of its kind and left the exit open. Of course, him being a 'leader' was a very subjective thing; they were more suggestions than orders. "Barkvin, have you got anything to fortify us against its venom or Sola's light?" He wasnt entirely certain what the halforc had in his arsenal, but then, they also didnt know what he had - and neither did he, half the time. But he was Sola's priest, and so, there ought to have been some light. Light would be able to, in theory, deny the advantage these things had.

"Protect them, I will delay this one," she calls out, taking one step forward before diving into the room and hacking away at the shadow baby. Her eyes have turned yellow but she resists the urge to transform yet. With a bestial frenzy, she sets herself into the creature, her blade ripping into flesh and sending shards of ice into the wounds.

 

But then she heard Murdain through the bloodlust and a shred of reason took over. With a puff, she vanished and appeared down the tunnel beside him. "It comes," she growls.

 

OOC: Power attacking twice. Using a luck charge on one and my inspiration. Bonus action to misty step away after.

The smaller shadow doesn't flee, though it looks very close to dead. It teleports down the tunnel after you and cries out as it's multiple eyes begin to freeze over. It's tentacles lash out wildly, one of them slams you, Nikoletta, into the wall but the others just flail about in desperation. Down the tunnel, the tentacle grabs Aaliyah and shoves her into the black tentacle field. The same field that is holding Draysus and trying to crush the life out of him. Then the eyestalk fires a familiar beam of eldritch energy that slams into the wall, unable to get a good shot on her right now.

 

OOC: Niko takes 15 again. Same Con save.

Aaliyah needs to make a DC 13 athletics or acrobatics check or she is grappled and takes 14 damage.

Draysus takes 9 bludgeoning damage as the tentacles squeeze him. He can make the STR save (15) again to escape and move on.

The creature flailed away and she was too concerned with avoiding it's pounding arms to mount a proper offense. It was all she could do to hiss a curse at it that froze it's eyes over. "It is weak, I can smell it's blood," she growls, sounding more and more feral by the second.

 

OOC: Used blood curse of the eyeless as I said on Discord. Two attacks that probably both miss.

The creature raced jumped forward slamming Nikoletta with its tentacles again. She was getting the brunt of it so far. Others were also getting hurt. He calls down the sacred light of Sola on the creature again and gives a word of encouragement to his ally. "Aye, Nikoletta hang in there, the goddess bless thee and strengthen thee."

Draysus walks out of the tentacles as one would shrug their way through a particularly aggressive patch of rushes. He's bleeding, a little. Couple of cracked ribs. Nothing major.

Taking his axe in both hands, he chops at the fleshy stalk below the small eyestalk's eye. Necks. Always a weak point.

Expertly twirling the axe handle, he drops to one knee and chops from the other side, stymeing any ability to dodge at the cost of getting in real close and personal with the writhing mat of tentacles that is the creature.

Ved doesn't rush in, and the swords aren't drawn yet. He advances carefully, crossbow raised. Two bolts fly in quick succession, but the light crossbow isn't powerful enough to cause much of a dent.
