Faith was expecting a portal to open up but no, a light show transported them to their current location. She looks at the others and says "I will sit up front and drive seeing as our contact has sodded off" she says as she takes the driver seat and grabs the reigns, from the folds of her underdeveloped wings comes an albino owl "hi Hoot, you wanna go find a mouse" and the bird takes off in search of food.

With Faith at the reigns the party makes its way through the streets of the city and pass out of the Southern gate on the the High Road. The day is fine, the air cool but not cold; probably mid Spring. Traffic on the road is such that you can always see another wagon a mile or so ahead, someone who clearly got an earlier start than you.

 

The days on the High Road pass uneventfully and you easily find the signed turning on to the Triboar Trail. When you make the turn you see no other traffic ahead.

 

Along the trail you occasionally glimpse movement off to the sides of the track, but you see nothing untowards.

 

The turn southwards comes up and you take it without incident, although the two oxen pulling the cart have started to show signs of anxiety; perhaps they can smell something on the wind?

 

As you come around a bend, you spot two dead horses sprawled about fifty feet ahead of you, blocking the path. Each has several black-feathered arrows sticking out of it. The woods press close to the trail here, with a steep embankment and dense thickets on either side.

Nodding in satisfaction that Yasei herself had settled the potential problem by speaking out to the Metal Dragon made her feel good. Perhaps it was because she started to act a little more like a leader, perhaps it was cause she was out near the forest, or perhaps simply because she didn't know any better. Either way, with things taken care of it seemed they were ready to leave. "Hmm.. Hmm.. Easy trail it seems. Stick to the road and all shall be well. Simple. Much like hunting on established game trails." Perhaps Yasei still didn't fully understand what it was that she was to do but either way she'd attempt her best at it. Looking towards the one who had introduced themselvs as Grimfang Skullsplitter, Yasei tried to word his name around in her mouth before speaking. "Greetings SplitterSkull. We shall be on our way, travel while the sun is high is much safer. Darkness can hide many worries and dangers."

Taking her place on the opposite side of the wagon as to Rhigoxus, Yasei begins to walk in time with the ox. She moves awkwardly, almost slouched with her hands on the ground as well before she tries to correct her posture to standing up.. Quickly slouching again before standing upright once more. It seems it required a conscious effort but she is trying. With the one called Faith driving the Wagon, Yasei had more time to pay attention to the trail they were on. Everything seemed fine.. There were carts further ahead of them on the road, the sun was warm, and the shadows not deep. At least it was until after the second turn and the animals started to move awkwardly.. Tilting her head back slightly, Yasei sniffed at the air to see if there was something upwind from themselves. Growling at the sight of the dead animals and the waste of meat, she turns to look to her traveling pack. "Danger here. Wasted meat. Not a sign of a hunter for wood. Be prepared for the shadows there are deep and the forest dense. Those who are small packmates should prepare to defend themselves."

 


Yasei uses Scent to see if she could notice anything.

Rhigoxus scans the tree lines for movement, or a hidden foe. He had no doubt this is an ambush. The dragonforged had little fear for what was waiting, as he wasn't human. "I have no doubt this is an ambush." says Rhigoxus. "If you wish to stay back, I will clear the path and perhaps spring the trap set before us."

Reaching for the animal (since it's not a horse apparently), he gives it a stroke with his cold metallic hand, then moves forward ahead of the group to move the corpses of the dead horses, should nothing intervene. As he reaches the horses, he calls out. "It would be unwise to attack this wagon, if you value your existence, you will let us pass, and you may have better luck with the next traveler."

With Faith driving the cart she at least had something to do, the monotony of a long journey could drive one mad. Then two dead horses in the middle of the trail, no riders, just the mounts that's odd, where are the riders?

Getting out of her seat Faith looked around the dead animals for signs of the riders, she then looked through their saddlebags for ... well loot or any orders these two might have been undertaking. Faith then stood next to Rhigoxus as if to bolster his words and to back him up in general, she scanned the treeline on the opposite side that Rhigoxus was looking.

As we rode along, Grim kind of listened to people, and to help them out he kept a watch, and boosted their own senses with an aura that allowed them to see, and hear better. Himself as well.

When they stopped at the wagon, he felt discomfort for dead, not really sadness, but discomfort especially when confronted by his own mortality. It was probably empathy. But as everyone else had thought he thought it was a good spot for an ambush, and began looking around on the alert.

Lizardfolk Ambush!

As Faith and Rhigoxus move to examine the horses in the road a ragged-looking, black javelin flies out of the bushes at the side of the road, misses Faith and strikes the dead horse beside her.

I'm switching to first person cause it's easier sorry for the confusion.

I saw the javelin skewer a horse near some of my comrades, that was not a good thing, so I switched my aura to help them fight better on my way. I moved to defend my compatriots gripping my falchion with both hands, and spying the nearest lizard... thing I adjusted course, and when I got close enough swung for the fences.

My weapon struck true! And parted the lizardfolk from stem to stern with plenty of umph to go!

Action

 

Switching to power aura. +1 to melee attacks for the party.

Charge 75 Ft to P3 +power attack (+2 from the charge, +1 from the aura. Transferring 3 from attack to damage, doubling damage from a 2 handed weapon)

Rhigoxus does not hesitate and engages one of the lizardfolk to the north, "It seems they lack communication skills to understand my warning, therefore I must terminate."

Quick, even with his metal body, Rhigoxus moves and strikes at both of the lizardfolk, cutting his greatsword through the first and cleaving onto the second, even if exposing himself to the first.

Yasei

Just as she picked up the scents of danger ahead, her pack members had already engaged what looked to be lizardfolk. Scowling that she was no where near the fight, Yasei roared into the air before looking around the wagon. It was likely that this was not the entirety of the ground that was preparing for them. Though if it was, they had made a very poor mistake in targeting their group. For she was how well Rhigoxus wielded their blade, Faith infused with magical energies, and Grimfang rush forward. Likely her skills weren't needed so she decided to wait near the Ox. She did hope inside that perhaps others would ambush them from behind, letting her bathe in the glory of taking on the enemies by herself.

Lizardfolk Ambush - Round 1, Monster turn

Two Lizardfolk are cut down by Rhigoxus and Grimfang's blades and Faith make great inroads to a third. Yasei steps to protect the wagon, alert for other dangers as the Oxen twitch nervously.

The blue Lizardfolk steps up to Faith and the pair of them attack her with the brutal-looking clubs; but one misses completely and the other glances harmlessly off her.

As the two remaining lizardfolk are cleaved in to several pieces, not waiting even a moment to inspect the bodies. Rhigoxus says, "Enemies terminated." then turns to face the two downed horses. Without much effort, he begins to pull nearest horse by the back legs off the road, upon finishing the task, he proceeds to do the same to the other, dragging it to the far side of the road.

"Feel to inspect the non functioning lizard men, I will once again take position next to the oxen pulling the wagon." speaks the dragonforged in his usual, cold metalic voice.
