Zoya bided her time for a bit, before launching into her own heckling of the Sword Knight. She was certain the woman would go on and on and on, she'd have plenty of time to say her peace. She thought about what she was going to say to distract attention from the sermon. Raunchy songs were always fun, weren't they?

The Church Square

spacer.pngCimri did a brief double take at Signy after the other girl suggested a desire to get be choked by the sheriff. An expression of mixed judging and disgust ensued immediately afterward, "You are one sick individual, you know that?"

spacer.png"When you're done here, meet me back at the office." Rhona Staelish says curtly to Bertram, their conversation cut short by the beginning of the priestess' speech. As the sheriff moves to take a position to observe the crowd, you can't help but think that the question she was asking was somehow leading. But what was she getting at?

spacer.png"We have all known hardships in our lives — needless sorrows, injustice, even cruelty. Indeed, such is the struggle of all who live." The priestess orates to her audience from atop the balcony, taking her time to set the tone and establish common ground, "But many among us have known more than our share. Many among us have shouldered burdens laid upon you not by the Inheritor, but by those who would curse her name and taunt her faithful."

Silas devotes his focus to Allemar as she finally comes down and starts to speak to the people. He particularly listens in when she talks about those who are making the lives of the people difficult. Go on, say something seditious. You righteous morons just can't help yourselves. Silas knew how profitable it could be to report on those who's belief in freedoms overruled their ability to keep their lips shut, so he waited for Allemar to give him the rope to hang her with.

Zoya, perched atop the opposite balcony couldn't resist the opportunity to inject some humor into the solemn atmosphere of Tileavia's speech Townsfolk needed someone to deflate all the pompous windbags, remind them that whatever Iomedae was promising, fun wasn't high on the list. As the priestess spoke about hardships and injustice, Zoya let out a loud, long fart noise from across the way.

"Oh, please," she called out, her voice dripping with sarcasm but theatrically carrying just as powerfully as the Sword Knight's words. Perched on this balcony was a perfect spot. Shame she didn't have a thunderstone. "Tell me more about how tough life is for the Sword Knight of Iomedae. We're all really feeling your struggle, Dearie. We've all heard it before, you're just playing with yourself here." She made a theatrical gesture of someone .. entertaining themselves that was really not compatible with her nor the Sword Knight's sex, but got the point across.

"The best solution for hard times is laughter," and nothing funnier than taking the air out of some pompous windbag going on and on about hardships she never feels. "This would be a lot better as a comedy show," Zoya continued, her grin widening. "But nope, just another sermon about the woes of the world. Thrilling stuff, folks!" She punctuated her remark with a theatrical clap, earning a few chuckles from the crowd. It was a start. She launched into song.

"Oh, the priestess on her balcony, so high above the crowd,

With tales of woe and misery, she really draws a crowd!

But as she preaches righteousness, we all yawn and snore,

Her sermons are as thrilling as a trip to the general store!"

Zoya's voice carries through the square, filled with mischief and mirth, as she improvises a mocking song to lighten the mood and poke fun at Tileavia's solemnity, take some air from her sermon. And with luck push the Knight Priestess into a rage that leads her to say something she'd regret, something they could use against her.

"She speaks of struggles, hardships, but does she feel them too?,

Or does she live in luxury, while preaching to me and you?

With her lofty words and righteous airs, she thinks she's quite the sage,

But if I wanted boring lectures, I'd go to church somedays!"

Signy was gently scratching her new dog between the ears when she heard Zoya heckling from somewhere behind her. "And people accuse me of liking the sound of my own voice." Heckling had never been a hobby of hers, other than the amount it took to get someone to throw the first punch. Not that them not throwing the first punch ever stopped her. It just gave her a handy excuse. But a part of her agreed with some of the sentiments. Why was this woman going on and on about 'more than your share of suffering'. If these people didn't want to suffer they needed to stop sitting around and complaining and do something with their lives.

When she had been beaten up daily as a kid, she learned to fight back. When she had been forced to work the worst most menial jobs at the tannery, she had gotten out. Only the weak expected others to save them and she was not weak. Her small offerings to Eiseth were her promises to maintain that strength and not let herself be lead astray. And Iomedae.... Signy's face wrinkled in disgust. Had a goddess like that ever had to endure the callous behavior that Signy's favored Queen of Night had suffered? Such a spoilt goddess didn't deserve such worship.
It made sense she was relying on words to rally the crowd instead of actions.

Bertram

Bertram sighs, then chimes in and calls out. "Interesting thought about burdens. Burdens are indeed the lot of humanity, especially soldiers. Are you saying the gods, and specifically your god, are the only ones who have the right to assign burdens? I mean, I knew that Iomadae was an officer before she ascended, and so a bit out of touch, but I hadn't previously heard she was a foolish one who thought only her orders mattered."

The Church Square

spacer.pngA brief awkward moment ensued as Zoya took to the opposite balcony and began to tear down the Iomedaean priestess with some harsh but well-targeted jokes, and even the initially scant disapproving boos and venomous glares from the crowd are eventually turned at least into light chuckles.

Bertram's more intellectual jeering seems less positively received, but nonetheless manages to silence some gossipers and mutterings around him.

Determined not to be undone, the priestess cuts back in, "Today, I bear a missive from champions of Iomedae’s faith, heralds of the goddess’s will, who know your troubles and would see them end."

With that, Allamar gestures to her twin sons, Loran and Lacall, who carry forth a box swaddled in white linen between them and place it on the table in front of the church.

Silas Only

spacer.pngThe lovely half-elf Claudia nuzzles up against your arm once again, leaning in to whisper something potentially devious into your ear. "Whenever you want to put an end to this thing is fine with me."

That actually shuts Zoya up for a moment at least. Not because she has any respect or reverence for ... anything. But because she really wants to know what's in that linen covered box. Mostly because she's going to want to steal it, sooner or later.

"Well? Open it up already? This one, always with the theatrics!" she called from her balcony perch.

Silas smiles as Claudia whispers in his ear and plants villainous ideas in his head. "After she shows whatever she has in that box. That would be the best moment to put an end to it and maybe we could even take it if we're lucky." He whispers back.

Signy scoffed, looking the twins over with a very dismissive glance. She raised her voice disdain and disgust lining her words. "If those two are involved, I guarantee no one leaves here satisfied. And handling their mothers box in public like that-."

She made a crude gesture at the brothers and smirked. If nothing else maybe their mother would be uncomfortable.

The Church Square

With a nod to Silas, Claudia quietly went back to pretending to nuzzle into his arm again.

spacer.pngUp on the church balcony, the priestess unfurls a rolled parchment and again raises her voice. "I received this letter last night:

"'People of Longacre! The time of your redemption is at hand. When the song of the Inheritor rises, you all must choose: Live as complacent vassals of corruption and evil, or embrace honour and claim the glory that is your right. The Glorious Reclamation gives you a choice.'

"Signed, 'Lencia Visserene, Knight-Inheritor of the Glorious Reclamation.'

"Friends, it is up to us to restore the worship of Iomedae to its proper place in Cheliax and reclaim our nation in the name of the Inheritor. But we have been given a sign — A sign that the 'Angel Knight' has come to Longacre to lead us to glory!"

With this, Allamar's sons lift the linen and box lid, revealing an ornate silver helmet sculpted with angelic features and a halo of curls. The faceplate’s eyeless hollows stare sternly into the crowd.

Unable to stop himself, Bertram sniggers, then loses control and starts laughing. "Glory is our right? Didn't those of us who where hunting glory and honors all stay in the army? More secret squirrel officer talk aimed at getting good soldiers killed so they can have a spot of tea on the next hill over. " He peers at the helmet for a moment. "You know, that proves nothing more than that you know a competent smith."
