Silas plays the part of boyfriend, wrapping his arm around Claudia as she leans against him. His eyebrow raises as he spots the barrels of wood tar. "Tar? Are they planning on having someone tarred and feathered? Perhaps the activity Allemar has planned isn't so peaceful after all? It's hard to believe that they brought it out here because of a carpentry project."

Alley

spacer.pngAs they exit the shadowy alleyway between Buckman's Hardware and the Graceful Goose Haberdasher, it occurs to Silas that they could probably hide in there later on if necessary. In fact, there's a nook in that alley that they could even move the cart into should they feel so industrious.

 

"I doubt it. That stuff probably came from the lumber camps, from burning wood in a kiln. Probably headed down to the docks I imagine, it's a good sealant and preservative." Claudia said quitely into Silas' ear as he checked around the corner. Indeed there looks to be a workman there, his pants half way down facing away from them toward a bush, whistling as a gentle splattering sound emits from the leaves in that area.

 

The Church Square

Signy and her new friend on a leash stroll back into the church square, and as they emerge from the alley between the church's fence and a neighbouring building, the Molthuni Shepherd pops a squat and starts doing some business beside an overgrown bush. Looking now at the people gathered here, Signy notes that in the short time that she's left and come back, the crowd has noticibly thickened.

 

"Propio come diciJust as you say! That santa puttanaholy harlot best not be playing us for a bunch of fools!" The small crowd around Bertram are now engaged in a heated discussion anticipating what Tileavia Allamar's speech and its implications might be, with several people angrily spreading rumours, accusations and charged debate.

 

spacer.png"You do the talkin', I do the doin'." Cimri shrugs and straps on her sash as she leads Zoya back down the stairs and out the alley back into the church square once more. Poor timing too, as she had caught the attention of her aunt as soon as the pair turned the corner.

 

At first Cimri tried to cover her face and turn the other way, but cursed under her breath as she realized it was no use, for the sheriff called out as she lengthened her stride to come greet her niece, trailed behind by three others who look to be perhaps junior deputies, each in uniform.

"Cimri! How's my favourite niece doing?" The sheriff asks in a cheerful greeting, moving close to embrace the younger woman, only to be rebuffed as Cimri taking a step backwards in a standoffish manner.

 

Rolling her eyes, Cimri replies, "I'm just dandy, Aunt Rhona."

Zoya cringed for a moment on seeing the Sheriff, but quickly put on a fake smile and moved up to put an arm around the woman, if she didn't try to dodge out of the way.

"Sheriff Rhona! Darling it's been too long!" Too long since she hauled Zoya in while she was publicly inebriated and fighting.

"I was just telling Cimri how you remind me of a work of art!" Well she'd been saying she was so dull it was like watching paint dry, but that was basically the same thing, wasn't it?

"Though you do look a little more pallid out in the sun than in the tavern at closing time. Are you sure you're getting enough to sleep? Closing down taverns after midnight, back out here at noon. Perhaps you could take the afternoon off and rest some? You won't be missing much. You hear one rousing sermon, you've heard them all, am I right?"

Silas nods and clocks the section of alley that could be used as a hiding spot as well as how the cart might play into that. He coughs and raises his voice just enough for the urinating man to know that he's been caught and that Silas knows exactly what he's doing. "All right dear, I think that perhaps we should get going and leave this good man to finish his business in peace, eh?" He hoped that Claudia was savvy enough to catch his message, that he thought it was time to get back to the square and that there was nothing more to explore here.

Signy waited for the pup to finish up looking around the crowd. Seeing Cimri talking to her aunt she wisely decided to stay somewhat shrouded by the bush rather than risk news of last nights adventure already having reached the Sheriff's ears. Despite what she had said to Cimri, she would rather not cross paths with her aunt, having spent a few to many nights locked up for made up charges like "drunk and disorderly conduct" and sometimes just "disorderly conduct". "Good girl, lets go find a quiet corner." She guided the dog away from it's mess looking for a convienent area away from the Sheriff, and Cimri's eye.

spacer.png"Of course, just a minute dear…" Claudia's gaze grew incredibly intense as she stared at the workman, stunning him as he turned around, his pants still half way down around his knees.

 

Surprised, the man gasped, losing control momentarily as he soils his own pants and shoes with urine. But as he cursed and tried his best to wipe off his mess, Claudia touched something at her waist and mumbled, her other hand spread toward the covering man, "ኴኒኪኪጢ"

 

When the half elf was done casting her spell, the man fell where he stood, drifting off into a slumber in a puddle of his own wazz.

Wirh Bertram and Signy each independently deciding to mind their own business and stay away from the conversation between Cimri and her aunt, it's only Zoya there flapping her gums at the sheriff.

 

spacer.pngCasting the mouthy skald a cautionary look, Rhona raised an eyebrow momentarily before turning back to her niece, saying "Some shady folks you’ve been hanging around with lately. Want to introduce me to your friends?"

 

spacer.png "No, not particularly." Cimri rolls her eyes as she replies in the negative. In just a couple of sentences exchanged, the tension between the two has already become so palpable, one could likely cut it with an imaginary knife.

Silas has to restrain from breaking into outright laughter as the man pisses on himself, then falls face-first into a pool of it when Claudia casts his spell on him. So that's what she's bringing to the table. And I imagine that she can do more than pull pranks with it. He gives Claudia a smile, as if to say that she'll fit in this group just nicely. As he leads her out of the alleyway, he spots Cimry and Zoya trying to deal with the Sheriff.

Well isn't that the last thing we need? He goes up to them, still arm-and-arm with Claudia as if the two of them were on a date. Oh hello, Sheriff Staelish. Claudia and I were taking a stroll through the streets just a moment ago and caught a man with his pants around his ankles passed out in a puddle of his own filth. Rather indecent sight, if I might say so myself, and if I had to guess, he probably had too much to drink and needs to sleep it off in a cell"

spacer.pngClaudia hurried to follow Silas back into the alleyway, but pivots last second on a spot decision to bring the cart with them. With some degree of struggle, the half-elf manages to convince the donkey to pull the cart into the crook inside the alleyway, but not before taking a few small crashes first along the way.

 

That done, she returns to her little charade with the tall and handsome blond man.

 

The Church Square

The sheriff's conversation seems to be temporarily interrupted by Silas and his new "girlfriend", and she turned her attention to listen to his report and then nod her head at one of her subordinates, whom immediately snaps to and turns to head toward the alley.

 

spacer.pngNarrowing her eyes once more toward the skald, Rhona continues, "So, you’re here for Sword Knight Allamar’s sermon? I didn’t think you were the religious sort."

 

spacer.png"Not likely, unless she’s pulled the stick out of her robes and started worshiping Calistria." Though her aunt doesn't seem to have caught the immediate joke, Cimri couldn't help but stifle a little chuckle, pursing her lips to silence it quickly.

Silas smiles politely, though he can't help but feel a little disappointed that his maneuver couldn't rid the team of this bothersome sheriff. ""Oh, I wouldn't consider myself more or less pious than anyone else, but in truth, I'm mainly out here out of curiosity. Everyone else is out here for the Sword Knight, might as well see what's got everyone so hyped. Can't remember the last time something got the town this excited."

In truth, Silas couldn't remember the last time he prayed to anyone, but if he had to guess, he was very young when he did so.

You get the distinct feeling that the sheriff is asking her niece som very leading questions.

 

spacer.png"Well speaking of excitement, did you hear what happened at the tannery last night?" The sheriff replies, conveniently leaning into Silas' comment as a springing board, "You wouldn't know anything about that, would you Cimri?"

 

spacer.png"No, should I?" To her aunt's inquiry, Cimri feigns innocence on the matter, shrugging and making some kind of contorted face. Her tone sounds as dispassionate as a fish might be about a cactus.
