Turning to geseture to Cimri, the brawler finds only that the rogue has already turned her back and exited the room. She'll have to catch up it seems.

 

"We do not wish to make the people feel oppressed. It is always a fine balance between hearing their voices and persuading them in the right direction." To Signy's final question, Razelago seems a bit more avoidant to provide a straightfoward answer, "Though, in the odd chance that there is violence, I'm sure the sheriff will have her people there to keep order, and I am confident that they will overlook any minor transgressions, so long as you aren't caught with anything incriminating."

Zoya took the armband and strapped it on. It felt good, right somehow to be part of someone's crew. An insignia for an authority that she could promptly flaunt. She'd been missing that!

"Well, we can always stage a little counter-programming. Listen to what she has to say and then, well, issue a retort. I swear if I can't be more captivating than some backwater preacher I need to retire and get fat on some beach somewhere. I say, does anyone have a thunderstone?"

Silas momentarily makes a face in response to Signy's comment. Not because it was untrue or anything, but because it was. Either his show of aggression with Louslik revealed too much, or Signy had a degree of insight that would prove troublesome. Either way, it was out there. But Signy's willingness to go out and just say it also indicated that she had absolutely no talent for deception, which at least put his mind somewhat at ease as he followed Cimri to collect whatever it was Razelago wanted them to take.

Seeing Cimri had already left she went after her ready to start the new job. If she had seen Silas's face twitch she made no sign, the energy burnt off from her run coming back. Really it did not matter what Razelogo felt the people needed or not. She had been around Longacre to know that some of them would complain about anything. The kind of person willing to rot out the rest of their life in this place was the kind of person weak willed enough to put faith in ideals instead of effort. Plus the whole swords thing.

spacer.pngDownstairs, Cimri opens the small black lacquered box and starts handing out what's within. Just as Razelago had said, the box contains a broad, crimson sash for every person in your group, each one emblazoned with the symbol of Cheliax and the arms of House Fex.

 

"Remember, all he said was for us to go stand around and watch. Don't pull a stupid like last night." Cimri says, making sure to hand Signy the first armband.

"It's admirable, in a way. How she serves this town dutifully, without any complaints." Internally, Silas did wonder how Cimri's aunt was able to serve as the town sheriff without going mad from boredom. What opportunity was there to do anything meaningful in this two-horse town before today? He also had to note the coincidence of Cimri being connected to two of the most powerful people in town, something that made her existence useful to him.

Outside Razelago's Parlour again

"We can all follow Cimri's lead. She really is exceptional at standing around and doing nothing," she leaned in and nodded to Signy, tightening her arm band to make sure it stayed put.

"She raises it to an art form. Me, I have a hard time keeping still, and a harder time keeping quiet." Which she quickly exhibited on hearing the others compliment the Sheriff.

"Admirable? Impressive? HER? Sheriff Stick up the arse? She's so boring she's a walking cure for insomnia! The human equivalent of watching paint dry! If her intelligence was any lower she'd trip over it hauling harmless revelers off to her drunk tank! So a few fights break out! It was all in fun. We just need to blow off some steam from time to time!" Clearly Zoya had had more than her share of run-ins with the Sheriff, which had led to more than a few nights sleeping it off in a cell.

Cimri rolls her eyes as the lot of you each take your respective sash, trading it in with a jab at her directly, or a compliment at her aunt. Handing one to Claudia, the rogue shoves the last into her pocket and puts the box down, heading out of the Ash House through the broken window.

 

The Church Square

A little short of ten minutes of walking, and you manage to get to your destination. Longacre’s Church of Iomedae, surrounded by a wrought-iron fence, sits just to the north of one of the town’s squares called, appropriately enough, the church square.

 

The square contains a well, available for use by anyone in town, and a tall wooden post for posting notices and announcements. Shops and businesses surround the plaza, and a wide thoroughfare runs north and south through the square.

 

A conspicuous white-clothed table stands in front of the church, apparently in readiness for the sermon, though the table is currently bare.

 

A few small groups of elderly locals and labourers from nearby businesses have gathered in the square, mostly around the well or along the fence surrounding the churchyard, muttering quietly amongst themselves.

Bertram strides around the corner and takes up a position holding up the buildings wall. He relaxes there, putting on an air of indifference.

Signy listened to the others praise the Sheriff's career and duty and got a slightly pained look on her face growing worse by Zoya's rant. "I mostly meant she was real hot."

Silas raised an eyebrow as Signy called Cimri's aunt hot, wondering why his party members found so attractive about the Staelish women. Any port in a storm, I suppose. He followed Signy's lead and put some distance between himself and the others as he scanned the crowd.
