Coedd

All is Coedd

Diplomacy: 3, Military: 1, Economy: 1, Faith: 9, Intrigue: 9

Actions

1) Faith - Conversion in Region 51 (Establish Coedd Minority)

non-Coedd meats fought non-Coedd meat. Coedd aids Coedd.

A voice recording by Siobhan of Clagarth

Well! It's taken them years to get to but it looks like various worshippers have finally made it to Grigialfheim to reapir the damage done there by the Elven invasion. I thought a lot of it would have healed itself by now but I've seen the holovids and I guess there is still work for them to do there. It really is incredible how much damage energy weapons and the like can do to an area.

2) Faith - Faith - Conversion in Region 35 (Establish Coedd Minority)

non-Coedd meats fought non-Coedd meat. Coedd aids Coedd.

A voice recording by Siobhan of Clagarth

PS, though why I'm saying that in a voice note is beyond me. It looks like they've made it to one of the other Elven regions too.

3) Intrigue - Surveillance in Region 48 (Great Success)

A voice recording by Siobhan of Clagarth

A great day for the "spies" over at the Arkhive. The general consensus is that Coedd has requested some information from them. They'll be overjoyed. Various seeds from one of the northern regions - region 48 as the Imperial Cartographers reckon things - started growing then dying off, growing then dying off. I'm pretty sure - and Garrick confirmed - that's how Coedd expresses uncertainty. Well, they got straight on it - a recon team was dispatched and they gathered satellite and sensor data by the hiveload. If Coedd is uncertain about something to do with that region, rest assured the "spies" are on it.

4) Intrigue - Build Spy Network in GLO (Success pending resist)

A voice recording by Siobhan of Clagarth

Now cultists in the Glorious Purifiers are getting in on the "send information to Coedd" action. This is getting a little ridiculous, I might suggest Michella does something about it.

A voice recording by Siobhan of Clagarth

Just thought, Michella's going to be pissed off that I used her name. Note to self: When I write this up use her codename: B

5) Faith - Change Size Bonus 2 to +1 to conversions in regions there was a battle last turn

The followers of Coedd are known for visiting battlefields en masse and working alongside the natives to restore cultivated fields, orchards and the other plantlife on which meat inhabitants depend. This work naturally ingratiates them to the locals and makes their sermons well attended and received.

Expected Stat Increases Next Turn:
Faith +1, Intrigue +1

Other mechanical notes:
None this turn
Non-actions

  • The BRG base on Sansar is destroyed. Coedd hears about the attack after it has been launched and does what little it can. Pkant life grows around some of the ILU forces to impede their progress while medicinal herbs hurriedly grow in the ruins to allower rescuers easy access to resources. Poisonous ones grow also, for those beyond help but in pain.
  • An offer to BRG As Coedd does what it can to mitigate the attacks, a representative from Coedd's own media companies hurries to the local BRG offer. He's no negotiator but he is stubborn and the best offer he can make is:
    • Coedd builds a new BRB base in its lands within the next six years (next turn and the turn after)
    • Coedd takes every action possible to secure that base from attack for the next fifteen years (until the end of turn 11)
    • Coedd agrees not to itself attack BRG bases for the next thirty years (until the end of turn 16)
    • BRG not only waives the favour owed by Coedd but now owes Coedd three (Net swing of four favours)
    • BRG recognises that Coedd is friendly (instant raise to Rep 2)

1. Military- Invade Region 14 on behalf of the Bironian Bulwark. Commit 2 space and 4 land units.

Rofl'hesk, now called Rofl'Biron, seeks to avenge Shi Lithium and become ArchKnight!

The Hammer (General Mil 7) leads the Glix Fleet, with its ship-like APC's carrying slow moving, heavily armed troops and backed by giant Dreadnoughts. She is doing a favor for her Grandson on behalf of the Inner Duma. She chooses a conservative tactic of a Measured Advance.

2. Economy- Colonize 100 Success

The Fiorids attempted to claim jump us, maybe? It isn't clear. We are proceeding as though there will be no obstruction.

3. Economy- Buyout TP 30.3 Success

The economic scale of The Glix is expanding with the new Jubilee. A secondary food source is secured.

4. Faith-  Seek Aid on TP buyout.

5. Faith- Seek Aid on colonizing

The Reverends of Slingid raise power amid social unrest. They accomplish little.

Non-actions:

Arkhive: Philosophy:  On Order

The Glix believe strongly that debts should be paid.  This is why they declined the loan from the Union and why they pay their taxes.  The Union asked for terms the Glix would not meet, but the Empire paid upfront with their Engines.   They believe in saving and thrift.  The Glix, are, at heart, creatures of order, and things being wrong upsets them.

So, when Rofl'Biron petitioned the Czarra to avenge Shi Lithium, he hinges his appeal on one thing-  a thing the sagas pivot on:
He was a loyal servant, bent into something that never existed before, and, in his judgement, this was what he thought needed doing.   He was owed for the changes done to him by Snimt'Glek, but, more importantly, he was a psionic prodigy before he was turned into a Brother.  The Brother program supercharged his psi, and the psi of Workers is based on perception.  He felt this needed doing, and he was a finely-tuned instrument of feeling.

There was only one response to that, for a Glix.

Arkhive: Literature: The Ballad of Biron, part 1

A commodity
That was traded as an egg
So I became, Rofl

Freedom isn't free
All are Slaves to circumstance
So I became, Hesk

Born a prodigy
Puissant like my grandmother
Reborn a Brother

Unlike the others
Mooncalf, no longer a Worker
Reborn a Soldier

And Shi Lithium
Accross the circle
Well met, true hero

And, too soon, away
Fallen, never to return
Farewell, true hero

They seek now vengeance
And I call, Mother's Mother
Be theirs, oh Hammer

I become Biron
Brother, Soldier, Prodigy
Bring peace, true hero

Arkhive: Culture: The Czarra and the Inner Duma

Generally speaking, most Glix Workers have two representatives in The Duma, their Outer Duma representative, appointed by the Elder Brother of their Teivosk, and their Line Mother, their eldest Female relative, who sits in the Inner Duma.

According to legend, the leader of the Inner Duma is a transcendent being called the Czarra that was thr original creation of Slingid and lives in the minds of every Queen.  The Queens do not speak in words, and, when they do communicate with Workers, it is almost always with one voice.

Which is not to say Workers cannot communicate with them.  In practice, a Worker can petition their Line Mother for an audience and it will be granted.  In theory, this isn't necessary, they can just pray to The Czarra and it will be heard.

But the Czarra replying directly is the stuff of legends.  Some skeptics, most notoriously Glim'Bosk, doubted The Czarra was a real entity...

Until Rofl'Biron asked the Combine Government to intervene in the Bironian Civil War.

ARKHIVE note: The Migration or birth of 2003 Sophont Glix and a population of Drones makes the Arkhive the biggest Glix population besides The Blackcloud Coalition, and the presence of 4 Queens and 5 nymphs marks this as the only Glic Hive in existence.

- JY'MAR FORCES LANDING ON SANSAR CONTINUE MILITARY PRESENCE AFTER TAKING CONTROL OVER THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT.

WE'RE GOING LIVE TO AN ADDRESS FROM PRIME MARCUS.....

```The picture resolves into a shaky picture slanted at an angle - the camera blurs out of focus and focuses on a Jy'mar face. A smear of war paint covers their face, they wear a war-helmet of the Protectorate of the Illumined Utopian except the symbol isn't one familiar with the nation but those aware of Soul's Expression know it as the Prime Paragons, the personal forces of Prime Marcus. The camera's tilt stops and steadies as the Prime comes into focus.
"Tekhum, For too long we let those who fester in the dark conspire against us. For too long we let those who control the narrative to tell us what is news and what is not, to sell us rot and sully our souls. I have spent the last two years among the Fiorid Principality. They are no more slaves to each other than a prisoner is to its government. False perceptions and misleading messages doom a people with heritage and culture who allow even the lowest to attempt to reach the heavens."
The camera moves out to show the Basu-Rahman base strategically set-up in the middle of the three major cities, surrounded by swarms of Jy'mar soldiers and aero-craft besieging the fortifications of the media conglomerate's building, flags of the Paragon's fly alongside flags of Utopian as artillery and air to surface railshots fly through the air.
"Today we take one step. Today we fight back against the false narrative, today our brothers in arms clean the rot out at the roots!"
<the camera crackles out>```
STAR RATS
image.png.bdfa53327c6829347bf2c1cc3385d229.png
Solar Trade Administrative Regions of Durats
StarTC
Solar Trade Administrative Region Trade Center
Greetings to our fellow Elect! Those once far, now made near by the miracle of technology! We, the STAR RATS, are excited to welcome new partners to the Solar Trade Center!
StarTC is a conglomerate of trading routes connecting all regions and planets of Tekhum! But we can't do it alone, that's why we advise that all the honored Elect Regions begin construction on trading routes to the STAR RATS and Region 110 of the firmament.
Additional Information
Summary of the Deal
A. The Honored Elect Territories build trade routes to the STAR RATS.
B. In return, they can trade treasure, artifacts, and technology through the trading post with all other connected Elect.
C. Additionally, they can access to other Additional Perks as shown below.
"But why connect to the STAR RATS instead of someone more immediately profitable?", you ask. The reasons are simple.
Compounding Value
Here at the Solar Trade Administrative Regions, we understand that our greatest value isn't ourselves, but the people we serve. And that's the key value offered by joining StarTC. Not just what we can offer but the ability to trade efficiently with regions across the solar system, buying and selling goods and services without burning time and the hassle of waste action.
Current Partners
Partner Route Status Trade Opportunity
The Arkhive Æternal (ARK) Active Knowledge shared by the greatest library in the system.
The White Pawns Active Mercenaries for hire!
Fiorid Principality of Verdalfheim Active Trade with one of the most quickly growing countries in Sansar!
This could be you!
If we as a system can unitedly choose one center of commerce, then trade will boom and connection will be simple. You won't have to worry about what complicated trail of trade routes are required to get your goods where they ought to go, or what you'll be charged to use those trade routes, and how many turns it will take. No! You will pass your trade to StarTC, and it will be forwarded directly where you want it to go! And that leads to our promise.
Our Promise
We, the STAR RATS, will ensure that any trade sent to us, intended for a recipient to which we have a trade route, will be forwarded immediately on the next turn. There will be no tolls, taxes, or tariffs implemented by the STAR RATS. We will always maintain non-actions to send trade to its desired location!
Any technology sent to the STAR RATS for the purpose of trading to select parties shall not be traded by STAR RATS to external parties not involved in the deal, unless STAR RATS later receive the technology again with a less restrictive trade license.
STAR RATS may only halt trade if STAR RATS holdings are directly attacked by an individual involved in the trade.
Investment
The STAR RATS are actively subsidizing and building trade routes! Reach out quickly and you may even be one of the lucky early adopters who gets to take part in subsidized construction!
1. Economy Management
This plan is completely optional, for members who are looking to avoid unruly merchants.
The STAR RATS will buy-out a trading post of a chosen region's desired resource and trade it to the merchant sector to keep it happy, eventually the STAR RATS will impress the Region's Merchants and manage them directly.
Merchants impressed by this opportunity will always support or hinder TP buyouts if requested by the Region's owner.
2. Work Compensation
For individuals that can offer excellent trade opportunities to other customers, 1 treasure will be awarded for constructing a trade route.  Due to slow early cash-flow, applications are currently limited.
These are only available at limited capacity, so reach out soon to see if you qualify.
Location
Region 110 on the Firmament acts as both the perfect land and space port. Located nearly in the middle of Tekhum, Sansar offers an excellent location as a center of trade!
Additional Perks
1. When possible, the Durats offer trade acceleration. Extra Treasure or traded Technology will sent early so commodities arrive for the next round.
2. Partners will have a trade route to a Pan-Tekhum Worker's and Trader's Union Base in Burtzlund.
3. As a fledgling economic powerhouse, over time STAR RATS Trade Routes will enjoy extensive Trading Post resource options for trade.
Expect these perks to be the first of many!
After reading this, I hope you're as excited about the opportunity lying in the Solar Trade Center as we are! We're excited to work with you and bring all the regions of Tekhum together!
STAR {RAT}S Actions
Non-Action) Rename Country from "The Durats of Burtzlund" to "STAR RATS"
Non-Action) Rename the Solar Trade Center / Solar Trade Administrative Region Trade Center acronym from STC to StarTC
1. Military) Conquer Region 99 with the assistance of The White Pawns (1 Treasure Spent)
The Durat military travels once again with The White Pawns, this time, to Mekhala. The two armies, now practiced together, are buffered by a surplus of troops provided to by the Durats. The new expansion of the STAR RATS will not be deflected.
War Details
- Assisting The White Pawns
 - Sending 2 Ground Units and 4 Space Units
 - Spending 1 Treasure on the Attack for a +1
Skod Qggg Smalengnutepi gained notoriety in the campaign for The Firmament for tactical thinking and keen maneuvers in the heat of combat. The Durats claim trade superiority over the Firmament.
Soul's Expression Exposé on the 'Slaves' of the Fiorid Principality
<Empire 8: Year 2046 - Collaborative Writing by Moossabi & SerakHawk>
[Prime Marcus has obtained permission from the Fiorid Principality to conduct a review and investigation of the conditions on which slaves are ‘owned’, ‘traded’, ‘purchased’ and treated in the Fiorid Principality. He additionally conducted interviews of slaves and slave-owners to inform his opinion in writing this piece for the adherents of Soul’s Expressions as an official Ruling from the Prime. Contained within are his opinions and attached are the transcripts of a few of the interviews with the videos available to download.]
I am Prime Marcus, leader of the Soul’s Expression Faith and I spent two years among the Fiorid Principality. To understand why I conducted this investigation you must first learn a bit about what drives my faith. We respect and admire the expression of all people’s paths and the ability for them to carry out their freedom of expression within their lives while it doesn’t overly affect others' paths. There is always a fine line to navigate when nations openly or in secret through the laws of a nation clash against the personal freedoms of expression that should be granted to all intelligent beings. It is my function as Prime to investigate and navigate this line and inform the Soul’s Expression followers of my findings.
As you will see in the interviews attached the ‘slavery’ that the Fiorid Principality practices is not one of extreme hardship or even worthy of the ‘traditional’ term of slavery. Traditional slavery involved violating the rights of freedom and intelligent life should be provided and robs them of their ability to express themselves. Children of ‘slaves’ are not born into ‘slavery’ but are given the freedom of choice while starting their lives. As a member of the Fiorid Nobility put, there are two kinds of ‘slavery’ in the Principality; Indentured and Penal.
Indentured cannot be argued to be a restriction on a person’s ability to express themselves. It is akin to a highly socialist society where the state dictates where you work and for how long but grants you freedoms to express yourself outside of those boundaries. They are well treated, respected and their abilities used and paths fostered. It would be hypocritical for any nation ruled by kings, queens, ministers or others to say that the Fiorid Noble’s ‘control’ over their indentured servants is any better than their own control over their subjects. Most people who become indentured enter willingly with a known labor contract.
Penal is akin to prison labor, while forced to sign a labor contract due to crimes or prisoners of war they are still treated well and their life maintained. This is better than nations who execute all prisoners or who imprison captives indefinitely. While restrictive this isn’t out of alignment with what would occur to people who break local laws and the fate of prisoners in general. I wish for more ability for those prisoners of war to be able to express themselves but this is not a harsh sentence and the Fiorid manage the moral mire of this situation better than others of the Elect of Tekhum. Look to yourself and your systems before you condemn another.
Soul’s Expression is vehemently opposed to the buying and selling of people as if they are property - this fact still remains, and it is a Fact that the Fiorids do not sell either indentured or penal slaves. This is a cultural caste system better than other Elect that has been blown out of proportion by the meddling of the media and intentionally inflammatory advertisements that had no way of being fulfilled or based on the truth of the matter.
As it Stands, as Prime of Soul’s Expression, I do not find egregious behavior completed by the Fiorid Principality that would require the intervention of the faithful.
Interview #1: Brita Fabbro
[A female Verdalf with long, thickly-braided green hair and green eyes, a pleasant smile on her face. Dressed in a short-cropped floral silk dress with rubber sandals at her feet. Bears the brass bracelets that denote her social status, hands folded comfortably in front of her. Prime Marcus’ voice comes from behind the camera as he asks the questions while the picture is focused on Brita]
Marcus:
Could you tell me your name, and a brief highlight of who you are and what you do?
Brita:
My name is Brita Fabbro, and I am a slave of the Fiorid household. I’ve worked at Radicefst for 27 years, my main job is gardening but I help out with cleaning or guest reception in times of particular need.
Marcus:
What was the series of events that led to becoming a slave? How did you end up here?
Brita:
Well, my mother and grandparents both worked for the family, she- my mother, I mean- had a relationship with a citizen from one of the local villages. They met at the theater, really hit it off, and when I came along they agreed that I would have the best possible upbringing in the royal household. It was a big communal thing, I got to eat and learn with all the other children- none of the Royal family, though; they were already fully grown by then- and when we were all of-age, we could choose whichever direction we wanted to go. Some went off to the military; one of my best friends, another daughter of one of the cleaning slaves, managed to become a Knight and now she serves in Lord Arni’s honor guard. A couple left to settle in with friends or potential business partners elsewhere, but at the end of the day most of us chose to stay and sign formalized labor contracts. Radicefst was our home, we knew everyone here already, I guess we all figured that the preservation of a familiar environment was worth the forfeiture of autonomy. They’d done so much for us, why not return the kindness?
Marcus:
Can you speak generally about the condition of your life? How you are treated and what you are allowed to and not allowed to do?
Brita:
At the fundamental level, it’s a transactional relationship; none of us would say otherwise. We’re assigned tasks according to whatever best suits our ability- usually limited to six or eight hour daily shifts depending on the task’s strenuousness- and in turn we receive a home, food, and security. The last principle was a bit vague, sorry- stuff like medical care and legal protection. Obviously we aren’t Nobles in our own right with our own Citadels and slaves, but from what I’ve read of other cultures even our humble lifestyle is far beyond the sort of desperation instilled by the apathy of less caring governments. Regarding treatment, I’d say that the Fiorid Household is like an extended family. Eventually you know everyone and everyone knows you- there are good people to get along with and annoyances to be avoided. The family itself is kind enough; we tend to stay out of each other's way, but every once in a while they’ll stop to chat about some business or frivolity of theirs. Outside of work hours we have essentially free reign- wandering the palace complex, catching theater performances, venturing out into surrounding villages- it’s a simple enough matter to report back and deliver updates on where we are. More lengthy trips require official permission and itineraries, but honestly none of us are all too pressed about it. The only major restrictions on movement are some of the lower catacombs of Radicefst and the private banquets hosted for the Nobles.
Marcus:
Do you think you are following a path of your choosing or is one being chosen for you? Do you harbor resentment for that?
Brita:
I believe I’ve already answered this previously, but I have a disagreement with the framing. Free will isn’t real, not truly- even in a total vacuum someone will still make decisions based on their preexisting motivations. Is that freedom, or merely one more step in a series of dominoes? Even one who makes a contrary decision does so out of their contrarian nature, and those who abstain from making a decision at all are also driven to do so. Not to get overly existential, these are just some basic philosophical quandaries I’ve encountered while reading in my spare time. Suffice to say, I don’t think that choice is a real thing. People are drawn to whatever calling suits them, and- not to brag- I’m quite satisfied with the quality of my gardening. Even if the lawn is owned by someone else- well, legally speaking, so am I, so it’s my lawn too. There’s a decent amount of dignity to be found in such a state of affairs, right?
Marcus:
If there is one thing you would change - what is it?
Brita:
More time spent with Lady Lilja would be nice. She may not recognize it, but she’s very… Well, pretty. [she chuckles slightly] Sorry. Serious answers… I know that some of the Nobles aren’t as beneficent patrons as the dei Fiori family. There are technically laws- well, principled understandings, really- to dictate proper treatment for slaves, but since the judiciary is composed of other Nobles it’s difficult for petitions for redress to see any success. Though, being realistic, I can’t think of any better option. The average citizen isn’t qualified- heck, they’d probably take it in the opposite direction and try to drag down the Nobility as a whole, so for the sake of stability… I guess nothing.
Marcus:
Do you have anything you want me to know or anything to say to Tekhum?
Brita:
Yeah, I uh… [she frowns slightly] I know there are some Elect out there that don’t… approve of my patrons… Just, for all of you, if you’re listening, please don’t do anything rash. We have a good thing going here, okay? I’m happy doing what I do. Thank you for your time.
[Video Interview with Brita Fabbro Concludes after a few pleasantries are exchanged between Prime Marcus and Brita and chatting about nothing of consequence.]
Interview #2: Joar d’Altosteinn
[A male Grigialf with short, curly black hair and gray eyes, a disheartened scowl occupying his face. Dressed in a plain white shirt under dark green rubber overalls, themselves tucked into black rubber boots. Bears the brass bracelets that denote his social status, arms folded stoically in front of him. Prime Marcus’ voice filters from behind the camera as the image focuses on Joar]
Marcus:
Could you tell me your name, and a brief highlight of who you are and what you do?
Joar:
The name’s Joar, from Altosteinn. I don’t want to be talking to you but it’s worth a break from managing the oil taps.
Marcus:
What was the series of events that led to becoming a slave? How did you end up here?
Jaor:
[his countenance sours when Marcus says slave] I fought for Altosteinn in the war; not that “Grigialfheim” nonsense spun by the Greens. We were forced into a defensive pact with the other major states by a common enemy, and they’re the ones that elevated that First Fisherman. I knew he was incompetent from the start- never trust a Velafloan with a gun- but I was loyal enough to defend my homeland, for all the good it did. Our bunker got encircled by those damn mechs, the whole roof was torn off, the Greens had us dead to rights… but instead of pulling the trigger, they rounded us up and dumped us in a prison camp until the war ended. At least there’s something sacred to them, farcical as it was. They charged every prisoner of war- tens of thousands of us, probably- with treason against ‘elvenkind’, for which the punishment was mandatory forced labor. I swear, the only notion more absurd than a unified Grigialfheim is the Chancellor’s lofty ‘Alfheim’… Anyways, the contract got snatched up by an oil baron and now here I am.
Marcus:
Can you speak generally about the condition of your life? How you are treated and what you are allowed to and not allowed to do?
Joar:
Food, shelter, eight hour workdays. Might as well be a prison sentence by any other name. I haven’t even met my ‘patron’, and that’s by design; they know they can’t trust us not to slit their throats if brought anywhere near their home, so they send some more sycophantic slaves to supervise the work sites. They’re usually Greens as well, and just as bastardly as the others- Though some of my coworkers are Greens too, and they’re basically in the same camp as me… eh, watever. They’re all bastards in their own ways, but at least they don’t spare their own. Back on track, we aren’t permitted to leave the work site- not that we’d survive the jungle on our own. Provisions come in, oil ships out, we go nowhere.
Marcus:
Do you think you are following a path of your choosing or is one being chosen for you? Do you harbor resentment for that?
Jaor:
I made the choice to defend my home, my family chose not to. They’re now Citizens of the Principality while I’m stuck out here in Kinus-knows-where, Verdalfheim. Can’t say the Greens are making the consequences clear for everyone who defies them. [he grimaces] …Honestly, though, what’s the point of a homeland in the first place? I’m from Altosteinn, I thought I was willing to die to defend it, but for what? Freedom? The right to get invaded again in another few years? The Greens think they’re fighting for their own homeland, and the Chancellor is fighting to force a higher homeland into being. Of course I resent them, but they’re also the only force working to solve Altosteinn’s problems. Not even we could manage that, isolated as we were. This probably isn’t the sort of answer you want, but I guess I just don’t have one. Is a choice really worth anything if it’s wrong? It's not my job to think about that.
Marcus:
If there is one thing you would change - what is it?
Jaor:
About the past? Our defensive pact should’ve hired Colonel Beldhan instead of letting the stock companies get to him first. ‘First Fisherman’, what a joke… About the present, well, obviously I’d rather be doing literally anything else. If there was some sort of parole option it’d be somewhat worth it, but if I’m going to be stuck here for another century then what’s the point of doing anything but the bare minimum?
Marcus:
Do you have anything you want me to know or anything to say to Tekhum?
Jaor:
Eh, screw it. FREE ALTOSTEINN! [the video immediately cuts]
[Video Interview with Jaor d’Altostienn abruptly concludes]
Interview #3: Clemens della Palude
[A male Verdalf with albinism, thin lips and a neutral expression. Bears a thin laurel wreath upon his long white hair, pulled back into a ponytail. Dressed in burgundy dress shirt with a high collar and sporting a green cravat, while his white pants end in dark leather boots, one of which is propped up on another knee as he sits to answer the questions. Prime Marcus’ voice is heard from offscreen while the camera is centered on Clemens]
Marcus:
Could you tell me your name, and a brief highlight of who you are and what you do?
Clemens:
Lord Clemens della Palude. I am one of the Principality’s lesser nobles, assigned to rubber harvesting and processing in the northeastern lowlands of Verdalfheim Proper. In addition to managing the logistics of such a large operation, I engage in a bit of writing every now and then. A pleasant pastime, even if my works are not particularly widespread.
Marcus:
What is your view on the ownership of slaves? What do you consider them as?
Clemens:
It seems to be the natural corollary to the fact that some are simply born into a worse position in life than others. We- elves broadly, not just Nobles- abhor death. None of us lived through the War of Eternal Bombardments, but its legacy looms as a specter over our entire culture. Death is nothing to us but a blight on existence, hated above all else, so it is not within our character to simply leave the unfortunate to die in poverty. This, ultimately, is where the modern paradigm began to take form.
Slavery as a means of commanding labor predates us all by millenia- in all likelihood, it had a presence across the entire planet at one point or another- so the bedrock was in place, but our forebears came to recognize that this ultimately transactional relationship could serve the greater cultural project. It’s a guarantee that, no matter one’s misfortunes, there will always be some source of food and shelter to fall back on. The same thought goes towards violent criminals or opponents in warfare- our troops go out of their way to spare as many lives as possible, as is our way, but then what sort of penalty can be imposed on them?
This is where the contractual arrangements become more enforced than voluntary; we do not want to kill anyone, so we induct them into the labor force and attach individuals to different work sites. The relationship between we patrons and each type of induction is markedly different- obviously we wouldn’t want former prisoners of war within our homes and thus our interpersonal ties are weaker- but in both cases it might be helpful to think of the system like military service. One’s individual will is subject to their commander, and the operating procedure of an average platoon is likely no different to a collection of slaves receiving their orders.
Marcus:
Can you speak generally about the condition of your slaves? How do you and your staff treat them and what do you allow them to do and not do?
Clemens:
I ensure that the available food and lodgings are high-quality. I have a decent rapport with most of my immediate Household, though some sternness is natural. I’m admittedly less acquainted with the work site crews; they’re overseen by intermediaries- other slaves whom I trust to conduct themselves fairly- so we have little direct interaction. They do their jobs well, though; I respect them greatly because of it. Obviously recent penal cases aren’t permitted to roam freely, but all are given substantial time off for recreation and other essential needs. I’m not so overmighty as to micromanage every detail of their doings, but they seem satisfied with their allowances.
Marcus:
Do you think you are choosing the path your slaves follow or do you think they have some say in their path? Do you believe your slaves resent you?
Clemens:
Again, there’s a critical distinction between the two varieties- Actually, with the increase in prisoners of war due to the recent conquests, I’ve been petitioning the Crown to choose a formalized terminological distinction between the two. For the sake of clarity, I’ll use “indentured” and “penal” to discern between the two camps.
In the former case, a choice is made by the slave to indenture themselves to a Noble patron. Terms and conditions usually vary from case to case, but the core principle is a choice to allow others to choose for them- in exchange for the boons of stability, security, et cetera. I won’t pretend that the initial commitment is a fair choice, since it’s usually taken when other avenues have been cut off, but in management it’s always important to take the disposition of a slave into account- find something they’re good at, something they would theoretically choose to succeed in on their own if they had the guaranteed safety net.
Penal slavery is a different case, since the entire point is that they chose poorly and are being forcibly reintegrated into society as a consequence, but I would contend that in their case the freedom of choice is not necessarily desirable. Having someone else make the choices for them, regardless of how they may feel, is objectively the best for the entire social fabric. They may resent their condition, I have no delusions to the contrary, but it is sincerely for the best.
Marcus:
If there is one thing you would change - what is it?
Clemens:
I’m well-versed in history, and if there’s one thing I can commend the Fiorid dynasty for it’s their total annihilation of the concept of landed nobility. No subversive power bases, no frenzied conflicts over territorial disputes, all power derives directly from the Crown and is measured in the number of people one can command- either as slaves or soldiers. Unfortunately, the system wasn’t exactly prepared to handle the colossal penal inflow from the eastern and southern conquests- Nobles still have the capacity to fight over power, and I was privy to more than a few backroom skirmishes over access to the new labor contracts. Therefore, my suggestion is this: greater bureaucratic transparency and accountability for Nobles who attempt to game the system.
Marcus:
Do you have anything you want me to know or anything to say to Tekhum?
Clemens:
That Basu-Rahman ad, though I feel sympathy for how apocalyptic the rest of the reaction has been, really should not have seen the light of day. Others can think what they may of our system, but we have no open market on which the lives of our people can be bought and sold. At the root of our system is responsibility, and in all things the safest hands with which to manage our people’s affairs will always be our own.
[Video interview with Clemens ends after a formal goodbye from both Clemens and Marcus]
    The Life of a Jy'mar - Day One
    The Life of a Jy'mar citizen, by Cluatis Masiziou
    Dear reader, you may have heard much or little of the plight of the Jy'mar - I would not expect you to sympathize much but hear me out. For other Jy'mar know my fears and shiver at a life beyond the walls of the warrens of our home. For you see - for those not in the know, the Jy'mar are short compared to the Imperial Standard. Our tallest warriors only measure 4 inches from foot to head without their armor suits. I will regale to you the horrors of size in this ongoing series told from the point of view of an iterant Jy'mar out in the world sending their tale back to me as they risk their tail. Buckle up, I have edited and composed much of what they have sent back to position in a readable fashion.
    For security of my client I have changed all names within this work.
    I left Utopian early that morning, my path called for a journey - travels and knowledge of the world beyond the safe walls of the warrens. The Protectorate issued me a mask, two weeks of hard tact for sustenance and some Imperial credit to be able to charter an aero-ship or book passage on the wandering traders in the area. I was given the waiver I had to sign - to forsake return to the Utopian Warrens now that I had left of my own volition- I would either never return or have to join the Protectorate if I come back. I only thought about it for 10 seconds. There isn't anything more for me in the Warrens. First order of business was getting on an aero-ship, I managed to have a regular trader give me passage he said he "had room for a small thing like you". It took me thirty minutes to walk the length of his aero-ship.
    As I walked the ship I kept my eyes out for the list of things the Protectorate says are danger signs. Bug nests, eggs, rat droppings, those are the things the giant folk tend to overlook and not thing of when travelling as they don't cause problems for 'normal' sized people. In my excitement exploring the ship and climbing in its walls I was lax, I didn't check carefully enough. My main regret from my first day was irresponsibly sleeping in the bed the trader kindly provided me. I went to sleep unprepared that night for the horrors to come.
    The Life of a Jy'mar - Day Two
    The Life of a Jy'mar - Day Two, by Cluatis Masiziou
    I woke to a pressure on my leg, it was gentle - like a lovers' caress - but I was supposed to be alone. It was only my brief training with the Protectorate that saved me. Springing from my sleeping position away the spider came into full view, its front legs had begun wrapping my blankets up in a cocoon and its fangs had been above my leg poised to bite. I only had basic combat training, I was not prepared for a fight with a spider of this size, big even by giant standards the beast turned toward me, waving its front arms in warning while shuffling at me. I fled. I fled the whole night, people say they get rid of the pests... they just hide until you sleep. Running from hole to hole I discovered the deziens of the night, and they just considered me food. When Dawn finally cracked and the Captain could be talked to I had not slept any more.
    At least he apologized profusely for the poor quarters and guaranteed my safety, but I was awake now to my peril. I made my own quarters in the hull of the ship, I used the protectorate's guides on traps and fallback sleeping dens that I scoffed at while being taught them. Perhaps there was a point to all the warnings, maybe this was a failed outing, maybe I was just doomed to die beyond the walls of the warrens. When I rested that second night, I was on edge for anything - the skittering of night creatures and the sound of the traps working their magic eventually lulled me to a fitful sleep.
    The Life of a Jy'mar - Day Three
    The Life of a Jy'mar - Day Three, by Cluatis Masiziou
    It was the Captain who found me mid-afternoon on the third day. He was worried when I hadn't come out for breakfast and hadn't been seem by anyone. He said it took some time to find the trapped nook and was fairly impressed with the little piece I carved out for myself. Obviously I needed the sleep, and I only mildly shuttered at the quantity of bugs in my death trapped area.
    Other than concern for my wellbeing being a passenger on his vessel the captain was also informing me that we would be landing close to nightfall at the targeted port-of call. A middle of nowhere Badal waystation aerostat that traders frequented to transfer cargo and passengers. Reminding me that was as far as I paid for, he said he could keep me on for longer if I wanted to head toward Shiwa Yun - My eyes were set on Senkar - I wanted to see the magic of their lands. He said I could use the nook again tonight as they would be berthed overnight and leave in the morning. I guess tomorrow I will explore a waystation and try to find passage to Senkar.
Fiorid Principality of Verdalfheim (ALF), Round Five
2046-2048
Chancellor Eydis dei Fiori
Dip: 6 | Mil: 7 | Eco: 6 | Fai: 2 | Int: 2
Stat Gains: +1 Dip, +1 Eco
Actions
  1. [Diplomacy] Sway Government Faction of Lillalfheim, Region 35 (TN 12 (owned region); Roll: 16; SUCCESS)
    The imposition of absolute monarchy upon a region which has no substantial history with the ideology is an arduous task, yet one for which the Fiorid Principality is unprepared. The conclusions of the committee organized by Chancellor Eydis revolve around the simple task of identifying and subordinating existing positions of power which have parallels in the Verdalf system while elevating vaguely upper-class individuals to any nonextant classes. For Lillalfheim, the subordination of its mayors is an easy thing, as they are encouraged to meet and mingle with their Verdalf counterparts to understand the new expectations and privileges they hold.
  2. [Diplomacy] Sway Government Faction of Grigialfheim, Region 51 (TN 12 (owned region); Roll: 16; SUCCESS)
    The greatest test of this theory is Grigialfheim, formerly anarchic to a fault. The few major mayors are brought into the fold with no real trouble, but the huge number of smaller villages with no organized hierarchy poses a substantial obstacle. In their case, the medicinal grants to regional hospitals are leveraged to log a proper census of taxpaying communities, while village elders contacted and encouraged to elevate their status within the new regime by partaking in slavery to join the ranks of the Nobility.
  3. [Economy] Colonize Region 100 (TN 12; Roll: 8; CRIT FAILURE)
    Begrudgingly committed to the Committee of Lunar Inquiry's interests, the Chancellor authorizes massive expansions to the Principality's foothold on Aridyin. A full half of the lunar surface is targeted in one fell swoop, though the ostensible focal point, the great Eye of the Moon, is witness to several embarrassing disasters. The first attempted landing, that of a poorly-prepared astronaut named Simen, sees him fail to read his displays in time to successfully decelerate, resulting in a cataclysmic crash into the lunar surface. Charged with mounting a rescue operation (though chances of survival were near-zero), his astronautical successor, Dunkan, is able to read the displays but interprets the instructions incorrectly, rapidly pressing the 'decelerate' button instead of holding it as instructed. A third, Ljodhhus, attempts to 'rescue' both certainly-dead astronauts, but despite successfully landing he somehow forgot to fill his oxygen tanks and perished in short order. The Principality does its best to sweep this abysmal event under the rug, inviting the Glix to pick up where they left off as per their contractual agreement.
  4. [Economy] Colonize Region 102 (TN 12; Roll: 13; SUCCESS)
    Mercifully, the attempt to secure the northern hemisphere of the moon goes far smoother than the debacle in the Eye. Despite certain elements within the dei Fiori family advocating to ignore them entirely, Chancellor Eydis issues a public statement that the White Pawns will (eventually) be compensated for their role in exploring the region. The ultimate worthwhileness of this endeavor is still up for debate, however, as settlers report ambiguous feelings of unease throughout their tenure. It is truly fortunate that the Arkhive gave us access to Aclaustrophobic Psychiatry in order to mitigate the feelings, but this sinister influence persists even in the face of perfect mental health. Oskar is monitoring this particular situation closely.
  5. [Military] Raise a Land Unit
    A quiet (yet foreseeable) expansion of the Verdalf military is conducted with volunteer troops from Grigialfheim and Lillalfheim. New equipment is manufactured to accommodate them, with one peculiar addition: sealed suits for combat outside the Sansarite atmosphere. All existing divisions are augmented with similar options, the implications for the future abundantly obvious to anyone paying attention.
    Rulings Within
    Honorable Mentions:
    Though the Bloodlord's engagement in the freeform cross-examination was stellar, he made it clear in the course of his presentation that the Unapproachable Bloodfather's (@JBarca) creed would be unlikely to spread (and, ultimately, expressed favor for the Imperial Cult). The Ancestral Queens (@Featherscale) and Hundred Hands of the Soul (@Rocket Relm) are compelling local traditions, but evidently lack the capacity or will to spread themselves within a burgeoning stellar power (the former even expressing support for Coedd). Slingid the Parrot (@Featherscale), meanwhile, is simply the worst (also they probably won't actually move to convert).
    Mother Serpent (@Tychris1) and Soul's Expression (@FriendlyHeadcrab/@SerakHawk), though promising, did not respond to their introduction questions. If answers are completed and posted in the Conclave event thread, their status will be upgraded accordingly.
    Tier 3: Support to Minority Rank in one Owned Region
    Many faiths professing the innate power of the individual to influence the arcane energies around them gave their speeches, each impressive in their own right. Practica Arcanai (@Frostwander), the Cult of the Mind (@farothel), and the Forever Self (@GrimRanger) are each invited to establish an academy within the Principality, selecting a region that best fits their disposition. As an example, the medically-inclined United Houses of Senkar may be interested in ministering to the perpetually-sick denizens of Grigialfheim (Region 51), supplementing our hospitals with their own particular sort of knowledge.
    Tier 2: Support to Minority Rank in all Owned Regions
    Coedd (@Kythia) has made its presence on Sansar into a fact of life, and though their views on death are suspect they provide an invaluable service in restoring the environment of war-torn regions. In respect for the planetary community, the faithful of Coedd will receive support in their activities so long as they do not endeavor to exceed their naturalist mandate.
    Tier 1: Unconditional Support
    The Imperial Cult (@EmBark) could not have arrived at a better time, providing a clear path to reconciling our reverence for the Emperor with the injustices imposed by his Court. Ophon is the Emperor, omnipresent and omnipotent, dominant in both material and spiritual matters, the axis around which all the universe revolves. Its Court may err; its light, however, is eternal.
    (I'm sincerely grateful to everyone who came to my event regardless of how the final rankings turned out. This is the first real eventI tried to host one in E2 but it was the last round and literally nobody had the energy to show up lol I've hosted for Empire despite having been involved with it for over a decade, I was always afraid that I'd screw it up or people would be bored, but to see this one work out so well has been really good for my self-worth. It's not the best event ever, but it doesn't have to be; I'm frankly stunned that it got as far as it did and thankful to everyone who helped it happen. <3)
  • Grant support to the contestants in accordance with their verdicts (not like I actually control the necessary media supports though lol):
    -Support one conversion each from BAF, CUS, and UHS
    -Support attempts to introduce minorities in all owned regions from COE and ARK
    -Support all conversions from HOB and LSP (Specifically LSP conversion in region 36)
News & Rumors
  • Though the Fiorid government unequivocally condemns Esridor's attempt to steal Aridyin away from its rightful claimants, in private it seems that Chancellor Eydis is utterly fed up with Oskar's nonsense. Of all the overreaches to occur during her absence, his was by far the most egregious, and now the government is bound to his personal whim in order to avoid appearing as if it has backed down from a stated goal. Were it not for the privilege of his birth he would likely be cast out of government entirely, but Eydis enjoys no such luxury. Much to her relief, however, Oskar seems preoccupied with ruminating with the Druids upon the nature of his findings at the Conclave of 2044, keeping him and his pretensions away from the true levers of power.
  • Despite his claims of having received permission ahead of time, the publication of Prime Marcus' report comes as a surprise to nearly everyone who wasn't interviewed, while the interviewees are similarly stunned that nobody in the government seems to have known about it. Upon reviewing records on her own time, Eydis notices that permission was indeed given, though it becomes troublesome to discern exactly who was responsible. One day, however, the inquiry evaporates as quickly as it began, with the Chancellor stonewalling any curious parties as to her progress. It's obvious that she identified the leak, but evidently views silence as the more opportune course of action, especially considering the report's nominally favorable findings.
  • The cataclysmic assault on the holdings of the Basu-Rahman Group shock and appall the residents of the Principality, making up for any ill taste left by their insensitivities. Had such action been inflicted upon the overmighty Union it may have made some sense, but such wanton destruction for such petty transgressions leaves all hands uneasy. Even the Jy'mar and Khylokians, two groups which made unfavorable first impressions but have since come to deal favorably with the Fiorid state, are looked upon with renewed uncertainty in light of their participation in this undertaking.
  • The reemergence of Karla Marrone in Narsai has been ponderously muttered about for some time amidst the halls of the Nobility, but her elevation to Iron Monarch makes it an increasingly difficult topic to handwave. Faced with incontrovertible evidence that an elf- one of the vaunted Druids, no less- was forcibly abducted for use in the Iron Masquerade's twisted game, a firm condemnation is leveled from the Chancellor's office with the added corollary that any visitors bearing documentation associated with Narsai will be detained for further scrutiny by the Principality's security forces.
  • Bizarrely unperturbed by the aforementioned crisis, Oskar dei Fiori and the Druids have been having a field day unravelling and integrating the technologies within the Arkhive's catalogue. Though their inner workings are obtuse as ever, conspiracy theorists enamored with the 'Mystery of the Druids' feast richly on new rumors. Arcane Amplification seems to be the favorite topic, with tales abound of a quest to identify and adopt stray psions of the sort discussed by the Cult of the Mind at the recent Conclave. Talented children are said to go missing in the night, whisked away to the isle of Soleyja. Some theorize that the Druids are forming a secret corps of psionic agents, while the more outlandish believe that their abilities are being extracted and transferred to the Druids themselves. As long as Soleyja remains off-limits, none can truly say.
  • As the Imperial Cult makes its first headway into elven society, its rites and belief system are easily blended with the traditional political mythology surrounding the Emperor; a cultural phenomenon which fascinates some among the Cult's missionaries. Elven aesthetics are primarily focused on anthropomorphic sculpture, and as such statues of all sorts of figures can be found spread throughout Verdalfheim and its subject regions. When a historical figure's ethnicity is ambiguous, as in the case of Saint Dejan of Lillalfheim, they are usually rendered as elves, but the Emperor receives a completely distinct character design. Below the head, the styling is simple enough: humanoid armor, light and elegant, laid in metal atop a stone or marble body. Upon the statue's shoulders, however, rests a great globe of glass (variably clear or chromatic), with a light source embedded in its core in order to emulate the sun. Capes are frequent fixtures, either drapes of frequently-replaced cloth or illuminated water fixtures, but on smaller (or poorer) statues they can be composed of the same material as the armor. To summarize, elven statuary of the emperor replaces his head with a representation of the sun itself; a suitable substitute for a leader so steadfast in his devotion to remaining unknowable.
  • As for the time capsule discovered in Aridyin's western hemisphere... Honestly nobody can make heads or tails of it. The capsule and its contents are cleaned and sent to the Arkhive's museum for custodianship, accompanied by an apology for being unable to attend the Hexenniel.
Capital: Al-Miraiya (region 88)
Society Consul Hanyeo
(llort, they/them)
Diplomacy: 8
Military: 4
Economy: 9
Faith: 5
Intrigue: 4
(Expected gains from this round to next round: +1 Dip, +1 Faith.)
(Heir: Dip 4+2, Mil 1+1, Econ 3+2, Faith 4+1, Intr 3+1)
Actions:
  1. [Faith] - Convert people in Region 36 Verdalfheim, the Fiorid Principality, to introduce a minority of Imperial Cult (16, Success!)
    • After the Elven Conclave of 2044, the Society receives official word inviting flightmaster to teach the ways of the Imperial Cult within the Fiorid Principality. With the guidance of flightmaster Pako, the faith takes root within Verdalfheim.
  2. [Faith] - Convert people in Region 35, the Fiorid Principality, to introduce a minority of Imperial Cult (9, Failure)
    • At the same time, the efforts of junior flyer Guyineber to undertake her first venture leading a faith delegation lead to a dearth of similar success within the neighboring region.
  3. [Economy] - Buyout Trading Post 1 in Region 45, The Wyrmlands (14, Success!)
    • Economy 9, -1 from distance (using the LSP Embassy with the Arkhive on Sansar as a Trade Route)
    • Society traders venture out to Sansar to haggle with local Wyrmlanders on prices for Dragon Eyes, something that surely would be attractive to many a Mekhalan. After schmoozing in the region and the appropriate diplomatic ventures around the neighboring Arkhive's major Hexennial event, the merchants acquire a foothold and shake on it. With their feet, as may happy among those who fly.
  4. [Diplomacy] - Connect the new Arkhive of Hayeli to its environment, bringing in researchers and dedicated archivists [5/5 Great Project]
    •
  5. [Diplomacy] - Raise Reputation - Imperial Court 2 -> 3 (TN 14) (16, Success!)
    • The Emperor has the cleanest boots you have ever seen and you're starting to wonder why.
Non-Actions:
  • Host an Event! The Llort Society Protectorate offers its Event-hosting services to any other Electors who wish to host an Event in their country, but who do not currently have the time, energy or money to spend on it.
    • Within the bowels of the Hayeli planetoid, the "sporting" competition of BLOODSPORTS! is held.
    • [Loans Available from the new First Union Bank of Tekhum] Repay WTU loan of 3 Treasure, after having spent it all on worthwhile endeavors. The WTU is sent an official letter of thanks, along with a hundred crystal weave workshirts, a hundred pairs of de-statick work boots, and a hundred pairs of sunglasses. They each have a tiny logo of the Pan-Tekhum Worker's and Trader's Union, the Llort Society Protectorate, and a pair of shaking hands between them.
  • Attend the Shieldbreaking Party! :D
  • Attend the BEES Opening Ceremony. <3
  • Resist & Hinder any Conversions that would reduce the Imperial Cult to less than a Majority in Region 88 (-2); otherwise, assist conversions of Bardolatry to introduce a minority (+2).
  • Donations to the Arkhive (through our Embassy)
Donations to the Arkhive
Donate a cultural work to the Arkhive and the Imperial Court: Three Leetle Bee-Gees, a children's book of fairytales and folktales told in songs that play as you touch your fingers across the pages, allowing even blind children to enjoying the stories in musical form. The most central stories are about a trio of worker bees that use their musical magic to construct houses of words, prose and poetry. They are harrassed by the Beeg Bad Werewolf, who reads their houses of words and prose and consumes them whole. Finally, the Beeg Bad Werewolf tries to consume the house made of poetry, but finds it too tough for him, because poetry is more difficult to understand, and the Beeg Bad Werewolf left the schools of Ishtahn before completing his education and learning the true meaning of critical analysis and friendship. The Three Leetle Bee-Gees celebrate by singing out loud about how they've managed to stay alive.
Donate a historical work to the Arkhive and the Imperial Court: An Empire of Empiricism, a 13-part epic blockbuster documentary series on the history of science and scientific methods and their development within the Empire of Tekhum. Each part is longer than the last, yet made with decreasing budget and increasing spit and raw unbridled passion for the subject matter. The last part, covering the last twelve years, is almost a love letter of STEM students from Mekhala to the work of the Arkhive, the explorers of the Llort Society Protectorate, the research of well-known figures like Dabida Tenboro, Karal Sayagan (including his work of the complete mapping of the known stars and writing Geographic Notes of the Now and Herebefore) and Yane Godal (and her work cataloguing of non-sophont human-adjacent species and co-authoring On The Origin of Competition), the inventors and engineers like Raoic Tàirn, experimental technology test subjects like Aki Kiniun, and finally to the creation of the documentary series itself. It ends with a heartfelt "thank you" from the cast and crew and a fireworks show with the newly finished space-Hive in the background.
Donate a philosophical work to the Arkhive and the Imperial Court: Brutal Honesty and Brutalism, a 4D pseudo-documentary self-help series that is extremely stream-of-consciousness by the presenter, who ends up oversharing details of her personal life with the audience. She tells a meandering story about her studies in architecture and how it relates to her personal life philosophies. It touches on a variety of other subjects, but too briefly to be very notable. Most notable is her retroactively berating an old llort classmate for improper dress, which has ended up clipped into memetic formats on IntraPlaNet.
Llort Society member _____ (human/llort, pronouns), who brings these works to the Arkhive, joins the Arkhive. Their noteworthy accomplishments include _____.
A large influx of researchers come to the new Hive and join it. Another larger cohort ventures to Sansar to join the Arkhive. The creation of the new space-Hive and its tying to the planetoid of Hayeli sees celebrations around the region. People go and visit it like a great new attraction. Children check out books. The elderly participate in holo-movies. Middle-aged moms borrow tools. Dads borrow recipes for Sansarite dinner dishes. The universities see a greater interest in STEM subjects and overall signups in the following years.
  • Resist all buyouts of Trade Post 1 in region 88 (-2)
  • Supply the Arkhive with the LSP's Crystal Weave (Fabric and Textiles) and Spacer's Cabbage (for compostables DI) through the Embassy functioning as a Trade Route (Renown 3)
Faction Tracking
Round 5
Region writeups
Rules
“Once you have taken over a region, you will need to write it up in the same manner as you did your first region. If you do not do so within 2 rounds of acquiring the region, barring extenuating out-of-game circumstances, the region's factions will progressively become rebellious due to your neglect, and Sway or Impress actions to bring them back to loyalty will suffer a -4 penalty until the writeup is complete.”
The following regions will begin to become rebellious at the end of round 5 if not written up:
  • Region 19 (TEA)
  • Region 35 (ALF)
  • Region 55 (SCM)
  • Region 86 (CAS)
  • Region 95 (DIC)
  • Region 110 (RAT)
The following regions will begin to become rebellious at the end of round 6 if not written up:
  • Region 22 (TEA)
  • Region 37 (ILU)
  • Region 39 (WIC)
  • Region 61 (TWI)
  • Region 81 (HOF)
  • Region 106 (SCM)
Region posts in the Planets of Tekhum forum
The following players need to post their nation writeup in the Planets of Tekhum forum on Mythweavers, or else begin to suffer unrest at the end of round 5:
  • D&DFan (AVP)
  • LadySerpentine (TWI)
The following approved writeups need to be posted in the Planets of Tekhum forum, or else begin to suffer unrest at the end of round 5:
  • Region 28 (Utattou, CUS)
  • Region 51 (Grigialfheim, ALF)
  • Region 56 (Alaari, CBC)
Media faction unrest
Rules
“If you do not have the support of another faction in the region, own a trading post in the region, or share the region's Majority or Sole faith, you will lose the media's support in the region after one round.”
There are currently no Media factions in danger of unrest.
Mercantile faction unrest
Rules and explanation
If you possess the support of a region’s mercantile faction, “lacking the local Desired Import will cause you to lose the mercantile support after three rounds.”
“If the Mercantile support in an owned region is Open and the region owner does not own a Trade Post that fulfills the local Desired Import, the Mercantile faction will become Unruly after a period of four rounds without their needs being met. These four rounds include any time during which the Mercantile faction’s support is given to another country, but that country cannot fulfill the region’s Desired Import.”
Player nations are given two extra rounds of leniency upon starting play to acquire their capital region’s Desired Import.
Being passed a resource through a Trade Route will fulfill a region’s Desired Import for a single round, but will not reset the timer to unrest. If you wish to avoid unrest, either be traded the necessary resource every round continuously or acquire a Trading Post of it yourself.
The following mercantile supports will become open at the end of the listed round if the desired import is not supplied.
Round 5:
  • Region 2 (BCC, Superconductors)
  • Region 11 (HOB, Rare Metals - will likely be cleared when TEA posts their DI writeup)
  • Region 54 (AVP, Laborers)
  • Region 58 (TWI, Cybernetics and Prosthetics)
  • Region 65 (ISH, Spices)
Round 6:
  • Region 17 (BIR, Fruits and Vegetables)
  • Region 23 (WTP, Robots - if no longer supplied via TR)
  • Region 46 (ARK, Compostables - if no longer supplied via TR)
  • Region 73 (SNK, Crystals)
Round 7:
  • Region 77 (COV, Water)
  • Region 89 (KRB, Efficient Fuel)
The following open supports will become unruly at the end of the listed round if the desired import is not supplied.
Round 6:
  • Region 15 (BCC, Fuel and Power)
  • Region 41 (ELD, Medicines and Drugs)
Round 7:
  • Region 19 (TEA, Chemical Reagents)
  • Region 35 (ALF, Industrial Machinery)
  • Region 42 (ELD, Entertainment)
  • Region 95 (DIC, Computers)
Round 8:
  • Region 13 (UHS, Precious Minerals)
  • Region 22 (TEA, Planetary Vehicles)
  • Region 33 (COE, Industrial Machinery)
  • Region 37 (ILU, Art and Cultural Products)
  • Region 61 (TWI, Fuel and Power)
  • Region 81 (HOF, Art and Cultural Products)
The Faction Tracker GM is human (for now) and makes mistakes sometimes. Please ping or DM Aerin if you think your region should not be in danger of unrest.
Actions
  1. [Economy] Purchase Noble Metals TP3 in the Bironian Crossroads (R17)! (Pass)
  2. [Economy] Purchase Eskor's Eskorian Orchards TP1 (R30)! (Fail)
  3. [Military] Invade Region 14!
    Send 1 Ground unit and 2 space units to attack. Aided by the Glix Commonwealth!
    Leadership and tactics are deferred to them, but BIR will take the region on a victory.
    Chairman Alchire commands the space front (mil 2)
    Rofl'hesk will prove herself worthy of the title Archknight where Shi Lithium had failed. Again the Bulwark rallies against the Satrap Qil'un of R14, and this time they cannot rely on Yanji's influence and knowledge of the Bulwark's weak points with the bulk of their forces being Glix.
  4. [Economy] Purchase R14 TP1, Paradise Builders! (Fail)
    The dominance over the enemy lands must be assured, through economic power as much as military!
  5. [Economy] Purchase Eskor's Eskorian Orchards TP2 (R30)! (Pass)
Fluff, Non-Actions, and Character Building
  • Support the conversion of the Bironian Crossroads (R17) to Fascination
  • Disaster strikes as the Bulwark strikes out towards the largest military power in their region, foolishly seeking a fight 'equal' to themselves. Shi Lithium has died, and the Sword of Revolutions has been lost. With it, the mandate of the old rule has been unshakably ruptured, and the Neon Syndicate's position that the Archknight system is outdated and weak seems more true than ever to the bulk of the populace. The last ruling line was expelled by internal revolution, and now the greatest warrior of the Crossroads has been slain in her first conquest? This crisis of confidence has brought the Knightly Orders to a drastic place to secure relevance...
  • The Glix champion Rofl'hesk, the sole victor over Shi Lithium in the grand tournament hosted by the Bironian's new Liege, the Black Cloud Coalition receives an exclusive offer... Avenge the Archknight with the Bironian forces in R14, reclaim the Sword of Revolutions, and become the first outsider in history to hold the title of Archknight, the leader of the Knightly Orders and admired by all warriors to be. With this he may secure his dynasty as the co-rulers of the Crossroads, and influence the course of history as few so rarely do. The Bironians fail to consider the ramifications of placing a foreign member so high in their command structure, though, allowing tradition and honour to outdo common sense.
  • This challenge goes the other way as well. If the Satrap Qil’un succeeds a second time against the invasion, then the rights will instead go to him. This decision, however, outrages the Chairman. An ally of Yanji's reclaiming the position of Archknight would be ludicrous, and lead the people of the Bulwark into a civil war for a second time. Stability must come first, and he declares Qil'un an enemy of the state for cooperating with their ex-leader on the run. He would rather purge the Knightly Orders in full than see this come to pass.
  • With the fall of Shi Lithium, every single civil war leader from the last decade is dead or missing. The direction and cohesion of the Bulwark is at an all time low, but Chairman Alchire is determined to bring prosperity to his people alongside their new allies. He just needs time, but if the lifespans of the other Bulwark leaders are anything to go by...
image.png.9840e50558f8fb0a5725dc11eefd8dd1.png
Chairman AlchireHe wore a clean set of armor, whose interlocking black and white plates, whose texture resembled hardened glass, were highlighted by hints of neon pink beneath. No doubt this was skin, which was apparent enough that he was clearly the same size and shape as a human, though the sawed off horns protruding from his head and that hue of pink suggested that was not the case. Long black hair falls from the back of his helm, which otherwise covered the face.
Non-Actions:
Accept resource from RAT through trade route...
Response to EMP embassy & Coedd...
News and Rumors:
  • Mercenary services continue to be offered
    Two changes applying from the next round:
    - Due to high demand, the price of mercenaries goes up to 1.1 MWG per unit.
    - Coedd was honorable enough to pay off the White Pawns even though they did not need to fight - the mere mention of them made the Jy'mar rethink their campaign. But the Council of Captains worries that the White Pawns could be taken advantage of here, and institutes a cancellation fee of 20% that applies when a client announces their intention to hire WTP units or other services and the leverage provided by this fact resolves the issue at hand, obviating the need for the service initially requested. In complicated cases, the Council of Captains decides whether the fee is charged. It may also apply when the late decision of a client to cancel prevents WTP from using resources elsewhere.
The tunnels and bulwarks of the complex that lies beneath the plains are to be reinforced, entrenched, sprung, like a primitive steel-toothed trap. When preparing for war, you must always be prepared for it to be a long one.
INT Coerce Trading Post - R59 Laborers TP 1 (Open, No Mercantile Support) - (2d6+5, TN 12) Coerce Trading Post
INT - Undermine Support - Region 70 WTU - (2d6+5, Opposed) Undermine Support
The Trade Union has no purpose to the will of the Populate. The Populate doesn't speak for all Veerhans. But it doesn't need to. It only needs to speak for itself.
Round 5
Coalition Captain Jié Měifēng & Helms-Moderator Guiding_Stars4 a.k.a. 'ZhǐZhī'
Diplomacy 8 | Military 8 | Economy 2 [4] | Faith 2 [4] | Intrigue 5
Actions:
  1. [Military] - Invade Region 104 w/1 Space Unit and 2 Ground Units, led by Hǎi Píng & Dǎo-Māo (M10), using Measured Advance (-10% casualties for both sides)
    Strike Force Burning Horizon and two Skyfleets are tasked with forcibly unifying the contested factions in orbit above Badal.
  2. [Military] - Recruit Ground Unit
    The votes are in - and a new Forecaptain is to be elected. It appears that with tyranny, oppression, and reactionary violence rampant across Tekhum, the organization of a new Skyfleet is considered a necessity by the members of the Black Cloud Coalition. 'Skyfleet' may be a misleading name, in this instance, of course - though they will certainly be capable of operation on Badal, the technology and training the 'Gold Fleet of the Stars' undergoes is comparatively more niche, at least for the polities on the acidic planet, and many of the volunteers are sourced from war simulation circuits recreating historical and hypothetical terran and naval warfare on Sansar and Veehra. With some further training in advanced, specialty simulators, and the help of some newly ecstatic armored fighting vehicle designers, the Gold Fleet should be able to conduct enough cross-Fleet training exercises and maintain enough operational capacity to allow full-scale warfare on Sansar on par with native forces if and when circumstances may require such actions. Jokes abound about megadirigibles being repurposed as oceanic vessels for months afterwards; they intensify when it is revealed that this is may be an genuinely pursued strategy for maximizing operational versatility within the Gold Fleet...
  3. [Economy] - Buyout TP 3 for Superconductors & Microcircuits in Burtzland (50) spending 1 Treasure with Support (Fail)
    Certain deals have been arranged - a temporary arrangement for all involved, but a necessity to support the advanced cybernetics manufacturing that underpins the Coalition's economic powerbase - both the black and gray sides of it. As long as nothing falls through, that is...
  4. [Intrigue] - Steal Treasure from the Cloudburst Confederation
    Followers of the Cult of Avva hide from the sun through great opaque solar sails acting as solar shades - a refuge in audacity from Avva's wrath, perhaps, but then, the heist they have planned to steal from the God-King himself is almost as much so. That they make no great secret of this and only barely hide the fact that this is targeted to prove something to the Imperial Court, perhaps unsurprising, then.
  5. [Intrigue] - Secret Action
    Even the most flagrant of criminals know it is sometimes better to act with discretion. In the dark, in the lightless pitch beneath the clouds of Badal's night side, unseen airships glide silently away from their berths, payloads unknown, destinations concealed, and crews well-trained...
Non-Actions:
  • Resist & Hinder any Conversions that would reduce Clouder Codes to Minority in the North Way Cluster (Region 2); otherwise, neither assist, hinder, nor resist conversions introducing additional minorities. Use BRG Reputation 2 to act as though in control of the media support in the region.
    • The Coalition is tolerant of many things - but non-members are still viewed with suspicion if they proselytize too strongly.
Do you want someone more competent than a petty crook to do your dirty work for you? Well don't you worry, your search is over!
    • Bounty Board Mechanics
      Elect Polities may place Bounties on their fellow Elect by sending Treasure to the Black Cloud Coalition or a suitably licensed Black Cloud Bounty Distributor. These Bounties are cleared (and paid out to the Coalition, if placed with a Bounty Distributor) by the Black Cloud Coalition taking hostile actions against a Bounty Target. The base standard rate of Bounty clearing is 1 Treasure per successful Sack or two (2) failed Sacks, but exceptionally high standing Bounties or Bounties on exceptionally hard targets may pay out more per hostile action. Currently, Bounties may not be placed on Bounty Distributors or Organizations, and will not be pursued against Elect Polities the Black Cloud Coalition has a standing Non-Aggression/Bounty Free Pact with, so long as that pact persists. All such Pacts made with the Coalition will have end conditions placed on them. Bounties can not be paid off by their targets, but the Black Cloud Coalition will always prioritize the highest pursuable Bounty target first whenever feasible - this allows for placing a Bounty on a rival to delay being targeted oneself.
      Bounties may be placed secretly by hiding the desired target in one's post when sending the Treasure from all Elect Polities except the Black Cloud Coalition and Black Cloud Bounty Distributors. The Black Cloud Coalition will, at their own discretion, periodically publish a public list of standing Bounties, to enable some degree of transparency without excessively compromising the anonymity of Bounty placers. Bounties will otherwise be hidden/tracked secretly in a format visible only to the Black Cloud Coalition and Black Cloud Bounty Distributors.
      Applying to be a Black Cloud Bounty Distributor: To be handled on a case-by-case basis.
      Current Black Cloud Bounty Distributors: None (yet).
