A sunrod might reveal the creature's position and allow us to get everyone safely out of the water, as well as anticipate if it attempts to surface and spit acid upon anyone as well.

Will a sunrod work in water? I always assumed it was a chemical reaction kind of like lighting a match. I always assumed that if you tossed it in water, it would kill the reaction that was going on. I looked up, but it does not say one way or the other.

I guess we will not know until we try?

Btw, did we ever talk to the creature above ground about this little acid bastard? Do we know what the beef is between both of them?

If I remember correctly all we got, was it is some fey creature. They did not like each other and may have even tried to kill each other. No real details.

Before we decide to go back to town, keep in mind that (if I am correct) we are on a bit of a timetable here. we are supposed to be finding out about the raiders that keep showing up and then vanishing. So, if we trek back to town, do whatever back there and then come back, we will most likely miss the next group to come and will have to wait longer for them to come back.

I think the intent of the original adventure was to let you handle these small encounters to gain a level or two before encountering the horsemen.

So our issues are more bad rolls centered than anything else.

Oh, and I want this fey water thing DEAD! Was going to just go past it and leave it alone and it attacked. Kid gloves are off. This thing is going down! 🤪

Ok. Can we set up a trap for the raiders? Maybe get a couple of horses and wagon and set up a campsite and lure the raiders out to get us and then follow them back, or capture one and torture him to give up information?

Sunrods are metal with gold tips.

Being metal it won't absorb water.

However, the reaction might be extinguished underwater if it needs, and cannot produce or convert, its own oxygen for the reaction.

In the future, it would be valuable to take magic light cantrips if possible, since we are underground.

  1. This is correct.
  2. Don't worry about any intent here. I'm not looking to railroad you, the scenario you're in is just one adventure avenue, the one I framed this game around, but hardly the only option. Treat this as as campaign, its an open world. That said, your PC wanted adventure and now they're having one. Given the rolls, I don't see that a different adventure would fare any differently, so don't abandon this adventure just because of bad luck. Bad luck can happen anywhere.
  3. Sunrods work underwater.

Well, this sucks!!!!

Not only is he knocked out again, once again his bow has been left behind as he is rescued. So now all he has, assuming he recovers, is a frickin' dagger. So now he is a bow specialist with no bow and no real melee weapon. Sorry, but this guy has not been fun to play as nothing has worked for him aside from some good skill checks.

To make matters worse, we have collected no loot with which to go back to town and resupply with and his lost weapons are the more expensive weapons. Yes, he has the skill to make a new bow, but sadly does not even have the money to cover that reduced amount. This is the point that if I was playing a video or computer game I would just start over. I truly am not sure how this guy and progress forward at this point.

Just out of curiosity, can we help you build a bow using material we can find here? Like wood from the tree or bow string from the assassin vines? Or can we chip in to help you with the material cost? I understand how you feel, but statistically you have a sold character just some real bad luck with rolls. It really isn't the fault of the character build, just some bad luck rolling. Anyways, think about it and come back to me on it if we can help you build a new bow.

I would have to look it up, but I think to build an item you need to spend 1/25th the price of the item.

The bow I had costs 400 gp. It was an elven bow which could be used as a quarterstaff or a bow.

So it is only 16 gold, but could take several weeks to months to complete it depending on how well he rolls. I think that in order to help build the bow, roll wise, you would have to have ranks in craft bow.

So we rest up come up with new tactics and go back and get yout bow...

LOL. We have tried that a couple of times and gotten nowhere. First thing Rodin will need is a real weapon to fight with before he goes back in there. I will admit it was short sighted on my part to put all my money into a cool bow/staff and not have any other weapons to fall back on. But too late now.

Jessie smiles and says, "Then stop charging into battle," as she offers one of her weapons, but frankly it's so small it looks like a tiny toy!!

Seriously, we may have to make you a quarterstaff, club, sling, all of which are makeshift weapons but should be able to be assembled fairly quickly.
