Out in the courtyard, Violet grunted forcefully with a final "Ungh!" as she delivered one last buttstroke with the blunderbuss, then looked up at Barhuce.

 

After he cautioned her about harming the gun, she took the mace he offered in hand, and, holding it pretty much exactly the same way, her both hands spread forward and back on the haft of the weapon, she pummels the wrong end of the mace down upon the small wreckage, smashing the handle into what has essentially now been reduced to an unrecognizable mess of metal.

 

In the farmhouse, Velen looked from face to face, and it's visibly obvious that she is breaking down emotionally. Still cradling the small infant, she made her way with quick steps into T'Sarra's arms, whispering between sobs only as she is firmly in the tiefling's embrace, "I know."

 

It takes her a few more long moments to calm herself, before muttering under her breath, "I told him not to keep that cursed thing. Stubborn fool, if only he would've listened…"

T'Sarra shook her head at Velen's words, closing her eyes and holding mother and baby close. "The thing? The robot? That was yours? "

She didn't want to speak ill of the dead, but how stupid could her husband be? Trust a menace like that around his wife? And baby??? Idiot! But she didn't let on what she was thinking about Durom. It wouldn't help and just upset his widow and child, who needed all the support they could get at a time like this.

 

"But... there were more than the one. Where did the rest come from? Did one call them? Or are you talking about something else?"

Vri wondered what now. They couldn't really take the woman and her child with them, but for a woman to run a farm alone when she just had a little baby was also not easy. But first they had to get information.

"There were more of those robot things," she said to the woman, "If your husband had one, where did the others come from?"

"Yeah, it's... It's pretty dead..." Despite Zyrel's offhanded comment about the robot that now lay in pieces and a scattering of smashed bits, Violet looked up at Barhuce with an expression of sudden comprehension. Wide eyed, her brows raised, mouth hanging slightly open, the android flips the mace around and swings it down on the small pile of metallic rubble, sending more tiny shards to fly off in directions before pointedly returning the item to Barhuce with a sharp thrust of her arm.

 

"My husband led a pair of strangers down the pipe a couple days ago," Velen did her best to answer the two women's questions, speaking amid sobs and trying to keep her baby calm against the tension hanging in the air, "Came back with some can of I dunno what. Kept saying he was gonna sell it... Now look what he's done got himself..."

 

At this point the woman clutches her child to her chest and begins to break down anew.

[Wiz]

Val will attempt to intercept the rifle as it is coming down for the secocnd blow, if she can. "I understand that you are upselt, Violet, but that will only destroy the weapon if you keep it up." Val's tone is cool, but when she meets Violet's eyes, hers are full of concern, and she takes a different tone, "Talk to me... tell me how you are feeling..."

"The pipe? " She had probably heard that term before, but wasn't always the best at remembering details, so she echoed Rain's questions.

"Rain's right, do you think we could see this ... can? Either way, did you want to accompany us to Torch? I guess you don't want to abandon the farm but it feels like it's unsafe here. "I…" In the courtyard, Violet looked over to Val and her previously hardened expression all of a suddenly melted away, softening to something that might be described as confusion mixed with apology, "I do not know what came over me… I… I am… sorry if my actions made you upset…"

 

Without another word, Violet leaned in to clutch Val's arm, burying her face into the human girl's shoulder.

 

Inside the farmhouse, Velen did everything she could to pick herself back up, nodding to Vri's encouragement as well as those of the others. "You're right. There'll be plenty of time to mourn later."

 

"I told him to leave it in the store room, I didn't want it in the house or near the goats." Clutching her baby to her chest, Velen pulled herself away from the tiefling to point across the yard over to a small building inside the gates of the farmstead.
