Combat — Round 1

[[ Mood Music ]]

 

Rain led the assault, opening fire with her crossbow against the arachnid-looking automaton still hovering over a body in about the middle of the courtyard, though the shot flew too low and lodged itself into the mud a few feet before her target.

 

Barhuce's bomb however strikes its target true, exploding right behind what makes for a segmented tail in the mechanical being's metallic frame.  Across from him, Vri similarly manages to get her rapier in between some wires and such in the ajacent robot's tail segment, slicing some stuff that generated a small spark.

 

Behind the two of them, T'Sarra staggers up a step before mumbling some strange divine words, suffusing herself and her allies with a sense of courage. "⩴₶⧉⏅⏅"

 

Zyrel steers his horse around the bushes to the right and brings it to a sprint, galloping around the property to the gate on the other side.  Meanwhile, Violet clambers down from her steed and moves up to get a better look at the commotion.

 

Coming through the gate at Violet's side, Val's bullet strikes true, further damaging the robot before Vri.

 

The thing (I) begins to make some strange, high-pitched whirring noises as it backs up a few feet, then a strange pinkish-white flame erupts from the device at the tip of its tail parts with an electric hiss, blasting a small cone of superheated molecules at Val, Violet and Vri.

 

The robot (J) that had been up until now hovering over a male body charges up towards Vri, extending one claw-like pincer to attempt to cut or grab something, but the mechanical appendage only snaps up some air close to Vri's knee.

 

Two more of the automatons  (K, L) now appear out of the farmstead's buildings, one clattering out through a half-open door from inside the residence, and another skittering out of a damaged door in the storage shed to come up against Barhuce.  In the span of a moment, it too imparts a shrill hissing sound, before showering Barhuce and T'Sarra with a cone of hot plasma.

 

Not severely damaged by Barhuce's bomb, the last machine arachnid (M) charges up to meet its assailant, its claw-like appendage just barely nicking Barhuce on the left thigh as it snips shut.

When the robot throws an arc of electricity, Vrilundas jumps to the side.  She moves a bit so the robot in front of her is now in the way and she's also a bit further away from the others, making it more difficult to put them all in another of those electric arcs.  She then tries to take down the robot she's fighting with

Barhuce, T'Sarra, Violet and Vri escape the worst of the plasma burns with their quick reflexes, though Val seems to have suffered the full brunt of it.

 

Rushing up, Rain discharges a bolt from her crossbow, however once again it veered off target, this time towards the left.

 

Barhuce seems to be having significantly better luck, his alkahest bomb exploding on one of the arachnid robot's legs and splashing against another nearby.

 

Beside the cart full of hay, Vri and T'Sarra also seem to have found their groove, each managing to attack the incoming machine, damaging its leg and pincer.

 

After almost tripping jumping off his horse, Zyrel stumbles forward a step through the gates from the other side of the barn, a magic missile flying forth from his fingertip, "I'm a... Heatseeker! Burnin' up the town!"

 

The shot of blue force screeching through the air around the well and bending midair to smack straight into the robot's frame. Blue light zaps and sparks from inside its metal hull, as it collapses onto the ground, motionless.

 

"No! Get away from her!" From beside Val, Violet pulls out her dagger and advances toward the mechanical arachnid that had harmed her and her friends, stabbing the blade into its pincered forelimb, piercing the joint where it connects to the rest of its frame. The machine similarly sparks and sputters a little of smoke, before it too lies immobile onto the dirt.

 

With her immediate assailant now out of the picture, Val refocuses on the battlefield and aims, her shot blasting a hole through the strange appendage at the end of the next robot's tail threatening T'Sarra and Vri, knocking several fragments flying from the thing as it topples over to its side.

 

With three of the robots now effectively dealt with, the group finds themselves in a slightly easier position, one (K) skittering up from the direction of the farmhouse to blast its hot plasma at T'Sarra and Vri, and the other (L) closing up towards Barhuce to try to snip at his ankles with one of its pincers unsuccessfully.

Vri makes haste with her good reflexes past the burning plasma, but T'Sarra is not so lucky.

 

Rain moves up and once again lets loose a bolt from her crossbow, which blows through the joints connecting the arachnid legs of the robot (K) that attacked T'Sarra and Vri and into its frame, causing blue electric sparks to fly from the unit.

 

Barhuce chucks another bomb over at the other robot (L), and though his aim is a little too far, the bomb nonetheless bounces against a wall of the structure beside the bot and splashes back at his target. The automaton zaps, twitches, and then a bright blue glow erupts from within its core, followed by an explosion of plasma and fire and molten metal parts, blasting an area ten feet surrounding itself.

 

Vri and T'Sarra move to flank the last robot (K), whittling it down between them with stabs to its mechanical abdomen and claws raking its metallic legs. Behind them, Val's pistol once again produces a loud report, the bullet blasting through the machine's left pincer. And finally, with that, the last of these mechanical menaces tumble to the ground.
