Having left Hajoth Hakados the day before, you are nearing the end of the second day of your four days' ride back to Torch.  After camping out in the wild the first night, you've continued to follow the Seven Tears River as it slowly winds north along the edge of the sprawling Numerian Plains.

 

At some point during the day, you cross the river back onto the eastern bank, where up ahead you would find a decent night's rest in Blackpipe.  Durom, one of Khonnir's contacts here who owns a small farm just at the outskirts of the village, would likely be expecting you.

 

As you spot Durom's farmstead in the horizon, the sun is setting along the western horizon.

 

Barhuce, T'Sarra and Vri Only

Riding up towards the farm, you notice something is not right.  The gate at the road has been damaged, and through it, there looks to be something mechanical hovering over the shape vaguely resembling a human.

 

This thing looks to be a spiderlike-robot, about the size of a dog.  If it had noticed you, it is certainly showing little to no sign of it.

Through the similarly busted barn door and the open door into Durom's house, you notice the glint of another two more metallic creatures, similarly shaped.

Rain Only

Though at the moment you were too distracted to notice what's ahead of you, Jerry squeaks shrilly, his emotions communicating a sense of deep dread and worry to your awareness.

spacer.pngVal nods and draws her pistol, pulling out a paper bullet and tearing a hole in with her teeth.  The investigator pours the black powder down the barrel, tamps it down and drops in the bullet quickly, then draws the trigger lock back and prepares to fire.  Val pulls her horse ahead of Violet, staying between danger and the android as she redoubles her search.

T'Sarra nodded and quietly dismounted, her anxiety rising. Robots, why did it have to be robots indeed! This had to be linked to Khonnir's disappearance and the Technic league, at least in her mind.

Vri got of her horse and tied it next to Barhuce's.

"Given that this house is where our contact lives, yes, we should investigate," she said,  "Let's move in, carefully."

She would move in slowly, weapon ready, going towards the closest robot, moving from cover to cover.

As Vri alerts the rest of the riders in the rear of trouble, several of the group immediately dismount, some of you drawing weapons and making ready for a potential conflict.  Vri moves ahead of the group into the farmstead's courtyard, rapier in hand.

 

Val and Vri Only

A little north of the middle of the courtyard, the one scorpion-like automaton was clearly hovering over a human-shaped mound.  Now you see that the body is that of Durom, the farm owner, and he is clearly not moving.

 

Vri Only

There is some blood beginning to pool from around the farmer's body.  As well, inside the farm house, you hear a soft, distant groan, very possibly female.  A quick look around the property shows that many of the doors and gates have been damaged or busted down.

Inside the courtyard of the farmstead, a scorpion-like object the size of a small dog turns around, blue light radiating from inside its metallic hull.  It makes a particularly weird set of buzzing sounds, and two more of the same mechanical creatures appear, one coming out of the barn and the other skittering down the stairs from the farmhouse, claws pointed threateningly at Vri.

"There is someone alive in there," she called out to the others as she moved in towards the closest robot, stabbing it and hoping she would be able to damage them.  Probably she would be able to get her rapier in between the metal plates and damage things on the inside.  Quite like humanoids actually.
