Also, a few things I picked up about stuff you wanna make, 90% is in tables and you might get frustrated like I was if you want to delete an entire table. You press, CTRL right clicks on it, and delete.

Any thoughts what you want to play Root?

I am leaning toward a linguistics/communication officer that on earth is a translator/mediator/ambassador type. Roughly the equivalent of a Face with High diplomacy in 3.PF.

As a twist, this character would almost be a pacifist who tries to negotiate or avoid confrontation in most situations but actually has a strong meditative martial arts background. SO, if he/she really gets backed into a corner, the can of whoop ass can be opened. Gender and background are yet to be determined. I will probably start to nail that down once I have time to search for a pic that speaks to me.

What are you thinking?

@Fiery Gift What about you? What is your muse telling you?

@Grudge I have a couple of more questions. What year are we working with? To make that a little more specific, what is the technology level? Are we say, year 2050 where technology has advanced just a ways beyond where we are in current real life? Are we at current technology that is relevant to today? Or are we around 2475 where the technology has the possibility to be advanced far into futuristic stuff like Star Trek/ Star Wars, or even beyond?

I ask that question for several reasons to help build the story, but also in how it relates to my character specifically and for Fiery and Thram to work with.

The direction I was thinking with my character was something like Neo in the Matrix. He/she with their study of meditation and martial arts has learned something about how to warp or bend time and spatial relations on a limited basis. To give that a visual, Neo gets shot at by a bad guy and somehow his mind slows down the bullets and he is able to bend his way around them and kick the bad guy in the face.

Thoughts/feedback?

I had it written down somewhere and pasted it to Thram already so I'll paste it here again so it's consistent in about 30 minutes to an hour. Just to deal with some posts here and OGMW

Pfffff can't find the notes now so I'm gonna go off the emails I sent Thram and Fiery. It's not too futuristic, man just started spreading over the solar system. Mars is colonized and in the final stages of terraforming. Venus has two floating cities and the third (that is supposed to be the largest) is nearing completion. As tech goes it's not too futuristic, imagine the future in some 50-100 years. So yeah there is some sleekness and holographic stuff, but we are not at a real AI lvl. Like in the Cold Open when I mention Hand Deck imagine a customizable holograph tablet. Her is like a simple silver bracelet that when she activates it Picture form in the air roughly the size of the tablet and she can operate it from there. Those are company issued and all of you would have one with the info pertaining to your job, but you can have your own personal one that could be customized on your neck collar and stream pictures directly to your retina, ensuring privacy with the keyboard only you could see, that would serve as your personal PC, phone etc... all in one. We still have no flying cars, sorry. Space travel still lasts a relatively long time, especially to moons of more distant planets. So say getting to Mars or Venus would be a mild inconvenience but getting to the furthest colonies can take months.

What else... ah weapons, no lasers still, just trusty slugthrowers. I'll make a table with the kinds available and specs. You will spend the next 6 months in several large hubs conected to each other by tunnels. One hub is living spaces, stores, and entertainment, like a mini town. Others are separated into scientific and mining ones. Moving outside can be done by suits if you are not a shell operator. It's seen as more risky and is done in emergencies only. Shells are basically robots whose form depends on purpose and they are the usual way of moving outside. Shell operators have several connectors on their body (Back of the skull and the down the spine) with which they are conected to their machine. Once fully connected, their bodies are basically in a coma. Their conciseness and motor functions are fully transferred to the shell. Capabilities of them vary by function. For example, a mining shell is the size of a smaller building with multiple moving parts, various robotic arms, and stuff like that. But it lacks the anti-gravity field and sensory capabilities of a Scout shell which is basically the size and shape of a larger basketball that can fly roughly up to eye level. And everything in between. I'll make a list of them too. Since shell users are physically linked the damage to the shell will hurt users to a degree since they basically get an electric shock in the spine, and if one plug in the back of the skull is affected is basically a headshot. Food is still...food. Although it is harder to get to fresh some fresh ingredients. If I forgot something ask. And if I forgot something that I wrote to Fiert or Thram add it.

Aaaand that gives me the inspiration I was looking for in my character. I'll do a systems engineer, where in this case the systems are biomechanics, the interfacing of machine and bodies, the comms by wire and nerves of the virtual and augmented realties involved in shell control, and some personal enhancements - yep, the borg.

And that reminds me of something I forgot. Augmetics. They exist but they are not pretty sleek kind. Few of them usually have military backing hence more cash look more authentic. But if it's just a like arm or leg it would be very easy to see it's augmented. While it's not really like a just frame without anything else, think about the first "Space Troopers" movie, not like disgusting but very obvious it is Aug limb. Even the military is not 100%, for example, it is common for snipers to get aug dominant eye, so they don't have to work in pairs. The eye does all math, wind speed stuff. All except pulling aiming and pulling a trigger, and they are so far the most "lifelike" Aug's but they are still recognizable by silver iris and the rest having a bit of artificial sheen compared to real eye.

Thram would be technically a "doctor" when those parts get damaged or start misbehaving if he continues with this character. Also, I forgot to say that due to obvious reasons, there will not be an "army" or "security" shell. I mean basic mining shell can do enormous damage, imagine one built to hunt you. Army shells exist, but they are not considered appropriate here. So only "fleshes" have security licenses to handle weapons. Also due to the same reason shell pilots go through the most rigorous psych testing. No one wants someone to take basically a living bulldozer and take it on a joyride where Human survival expectancy without a suit is less than a second.

By the way, I can't decide on the moon (there is a bunch of dang things) My Heart was set on Europa, but that might be my bias speaking 😝 So you vote on the moon and we'll see the best one. There is a catch though, only Jupiter and Saturn are in the race. I mean there are like 100 moons just between them. The reason is that Uranus (so far discovered) has really small moons. And we have not yet set any shops on Neptune.

Glad to see you on board. I was thinking maybe a xenobiologist.

I have a bunch of ideas on the xenobiologist.
1. Maybe an anti-parasite specialist. We’ve all seen the pod people or Alines. Someone who specializes in keeping aliens from using humans to reproduce or from dominating them.

2. Maybe like a preservationist alchemist from pathfinder. My guy grows a bunch of weird stuff, oozes, fungus, vermin in jars then throws them at the bad guys. I had a twist on this where my character was actually using the pieces of the creature to make organs and replacement body parts for people. He made some blood vessels out of worms which he had implanted in himself and now he has a weird emotional connection to the vermin in his jars.

3. Maybe he specializes in using the critters to terraform alien environments and make them sustainable. He knows a whole ton about evolution and ecology. One of his species evolved too fast and now it is starting to outsmart him.

4. He is an amateur astronomer and conspiracy nut with a theory about interstellar megafauna. Everyone back home thinks he’s crazy. So he joined up with the Space Marines to get to space. Now he’s conducting secret tests on a moon and is pretty sure he’s right. The planetary  body they’re studying isn’t a moon; it is a cocoon. It is about to hatch and it will be hungry. More concerning, that far off comet isn’t a comet. It is thE mother.

This pretty much matches what I had in mind, a technology still very much in its infancy for all that it might seem wonderous to previous generations. The character would have the nickname "the Ghoul" for his studies of the traumatic effects of shell damage on the body, and still more of an engineer than a doctor per se. That is, somebody with an enormous human biology knowledge base (and mechanical, electrodynamic and nanotechnological fundamentals), but still approaching it from an engineering standpoint rather than a hippocratic oath sworn doctor.

Got a bunch of stuff considered I could expand on here in terms of back story.

So where do we put characters?

I'll make a thread

I like 2 Fiery. Could be trying to create farms in methane lakes, or transplant Earth ocean rift species to live in sulphur lava.

I'm happy to go with Europa Grudge, all of the moons are interesting in their own way. I mean really interesting.

O.K. I made the character thread. Go to town.

So how does it work? One main post per character?

Actually looking at the bladr structure it wouldn't hurt to have a thread / character. It's reasonably functional the way they present in the header there and we've a small group. Should work out. (?)

My character's name is....

.... drum roll...

... wait for it...

Malcom.
