As soon as everybody was back together, Vri continued to move forward, slowly and carefully just to make sure she could react to anything.

Black Hill Caves — Speleothem Cavern / Dark River Cave

Though she was grateful gor the healing hand getting up and over the ledge, Rain nonetheless raised an eyebrow at Barhuce as she got vis-à-vis with the alchemist, an accusatory tone tainting her words, "The hell was that about?"


Ahead, beyond the two little girls busy having their own little private gigglefest, Vri ventures forth into the dark cave, coming to stand at the edge of a rocky shore overlooking a placid pool and stream, fed by a trickle of water leaking from a narrow fissure to the north.

 

Bobbing belly down with the gentle movement of water and occasionally bumping against her boot, is the tattered and mutilated remains of what looks to be a man, parts of his body clearly missing and torn apart, as though he had fallen prey to being someone else's meal.

 

Back at the thickly speleothemed cavern, Val pipes up, her tone bidding for caution, "Hey guys, keep your eyes open, it looks like she's been picked clean."

Val's call for caution came just a split of a hair too late, as Vri is suddenly confronted with a grotesque frog-like creature the size of a small humanoid, sporting glowing white eyes surfacing out of the water.


Just as soon as it rises from under the placid stream, a blinding cone of light hits the dark cave's walls in the half-elf's direction.

Barhuce glares right back “I don’t Fecking know. I just got groped by a Fecking child after making a dumbarse mistake that could’ve killed you and Val and then got felt up. Apparently because none of us can stop with the Fecking innuendos and the social and emotional child got curious.” He starts stomping off toward Vri, muttering about being taken advantage of when the disturbance starts.

"OK what the hells?" T'Sarra looked back at Vi and Val and Barhuce and the groping incident and her temper took over. She moved back to confront the android as Barhuce went to help Rain up.

"OK! You're new to this world but that, what you just did? That is not ok! There is this thing called consent and it's very important to us. And it means that you don't get to touch anybody in a way they don't want to be touched at that moment. Until you learn the signs just... ask first before you grab anybody anywhere that clothes usually cover ok? And an... Vri? Everything ok? This talk isn't over," she called back over her shoulder as she moved up to check on Vri, internally agreeing with Barhuce about everything.

T'Sarra cannot act in the surprise round due to her oracle curse. Which is becoming damned inconvenient! Waste of a good perception roll since I can't do anything even if I could act!

With T'Sarra coming in on a stern rebuke, Val decided she didn't need to add to the surrogate parenting, and added only added in the manner of giving the android a disapproving, 'I told you so' kind of look.

 

Violet seems quite taken aback by everyone's sudden rancour at the situation, her jaw dropping wordlessly as her lips silently smack about trying to form some kind of response, but eventually settling into a discombobulated pout as the tiefling gave her the talk.

 

When she finally spoke up, her response was clearly marked with confusion, was the sentence was cut short midsentence, "But how would I otherwise evaluate…"


Suddenly, the android careened forward past T'Sarra and pulled out her longarm toward the sudden burst of bright light, skidding to a stop just behind the cover of one of the cavern's edges. "Something is wrong."


Ahead, the frog-like creature climbed itself up onto the rocky shore, its toothy maw taking a bite out of Vri's right thigh just as she raised her arm last second to shield herself from the blinding light.

"What is it? I've never seen anything like that before! Oh gods, that light!" T'Sarra moved up and got a look at the thing, though not the clearest and thankfully far enough back to avoid exposing herself to its light.

"We're coming Vri! Hey you all! We've got trouble up here! " she relayed Vri's message back, then blessed her friends and their fighting ability

"ህየሀካሃኡሣኪ" Rain mumbled something as she came up behind T'Sarra and touched her on the shoulder, imbuing her with divine guidance, "That should help."

 

As he came up shoulder to shoulder with the shaman, Barhuce craned his neck around to try to get a look at the creature that had emitted that bright light.

 

Barhuce Only

Not able to get a good look in, all you can do is guess as to the nature of the source of this light. If it is a creature of any kind, it could potentially be some kind of fire beetle, perhaps much larger and much more aggressive than the few you just encountered.

 

On the other hand, it could also be any number of a handful of things. Cytillipedes, Blindheims, and even Sirrushes come immediately to mind. You sincerely hope it isn't the last on that list.

 

Closing her eyes with a deliberate scrunching of her facial features, the android took a deep breath and moved forward into the bright light, her blunderbuss already loaded with a cartridge from earlier. The flint ignited the gunpowder immediately after she depressed the trigger, and a puff of smoke follows the sound of a small bang.

 

A moment later, a splotch of red appears on the creature's right hindquarter.

 

"⩴₶⧉⏅⏅" T'Sarra performed some divine utterance, blessing her allies with the courage to go forth into the fray.

 

Val weaves just ahead T'Sarra where Violet was a moment ago, and for a moment she tries to get a good look. "Oh crap. I think it's a Blindheim… How the hells…‽"

 

Her self-directed grumblings were cut short with her switch of focus to mix a quick elixir, which she immediately slams back.

 

Barhuce Only

A blindheim is a grotesque frog-like underground beast that has glowing white eyes. You've heard stories of these creatures emanating cones of bright light, perhaps to attract and disorient prey, but some scholars argue these animals are also capable of using flashes of light and gestures to communicate.

 

While not strictly aquatic, these amphibian creatures are excellent swimmers, and usually dwell deep underground in some of the dampers, darkest regions of cavernous sprawls. As they can see in complete darkness and are immune to blindness, this thing can climb to higher ground and prey on unsuspecting creatures in order to supplement its diet of fungus and rodents, and it could flee just as easily if it encounters something too tough to swallow.

 

With a maw full of razor-sharp teeth, and claws on its webbed feet, the blindheim is a dangerous foe indeed.

 

Vri's rapier stabbed the frog-thing's forelimb, slicing its webbed foot open some.

 

As the creature closes in on Vri once more, its blinding cone of light shifts, hitting Violet directly and Val partially, though she was able to duck behind the wall of the cavern and shield herself from the worst of it.

 

spacer.pngJust then, a flash of purplish glow illuminated under the android's skin in riddling tattoo-like patterns for a brief moment, cycling as the android screamed at the top of her lungs. Violet's eyes clouded over again briefly as she had this experience, her whole body's muscles looking like it was tensing and flexing in place all at the same time. And just as quickly as it had come on, now it's gone.

 

Focusing its attack on the half-elf, the frog-thing manages to swipe Vri with one of its claws, nicking her in the right shin.

Eye beams!

T'Sarra moved up and saw the horror up close, then decided to do something rash.

"This is stupid, this is stupid, this is stupid," she repeated over and over to herself. Then she tried to grab the thing and get her hands over its eyes.

Mechanics
 

Move: as on tableplop, about 30 feet East to S of the beasty, drawing an attack of opportunity
Standard: grapple. T'Sarra does not have improved grapple so this should draw an attack of opportunity as well. But hopefully it already used that hitting her as she moved past. And it doesn't have combat reflexes... 23 vs. the things CMD to grapple it, I will leave it up to the GM to decide if she can cover its eyes in doing so. But either way it (and T'Sarra) are hopefully grappled

Combat — Round 2

"AAAIIIIIIIEEEE!!!" Hit by the blinding light again, Vri screamed as she tried to shield her eyes, but too late. The loud expression of pain followed by the heavy scrunching of her facial features betrays that something had gone terribly wrong.


Hefting her crossbow, Rain rushed up in response, only to be held back by Val. "Stay behind cover!"


Edging out just in front of Val there, Rain reached around the cavern wall's rock face and let a bolt loose, but the shot goes wide towards the left and clatters harmlessly along the rocky beach.

 

Armed with a head full of knowledge, Barhuce dives headlong into the fray in front of the two young women, but his mace only struck a wisp of air as he swung it against the strange amphibian creature.

 

Violet loaded another cartridge into the muzzle of her blunderbuss, tamping down the bullet with a push of the ramrod just as Val had taught her. But by the time she had begun to stow away the ramrod, the android had heard the sound of T'Sarra's repetitive mumblings as she charged forward.

 

Taking the opportunity while the tiefling is putting up a distraction against the creature, Violet moved past Barhuce and behind the frog-thing to the back of the cave, hoping that whatever light comes out of the thing's eyes next time would not be able to hit all of them all at once.

 

Meanwhile, T'Sarra closed the distance with the amphibian monster, expertly evading a bite as she grabs the creature and tussles with it in a grapple, trying to lean in and cover the thing's eyes with her bosom.

 

Val moves up just behind a bulging curve in the cave walls, steadying her aim against the thing. But with all the movement and in trying to avoid hitting one of her allies, Val's shot went right and ricocheted off the cave wall, causing a bit of stone to chip off of its surface.

 

Blinded by the light, Vri does her best to try to stab at the creature again, though the rapier only manages to pierce between some loose stones this time.

 

Contending with the tiefling trying to smother it with her knockers, the creature turned its struggle toward T'Sarra, consequently turning its gaze and its blinding light her way as well, before it was able to slither free of her grasp. Then all of the sudden, the light extinguished, the monster jumping ten feet the other way back into the pool of water.
