Still, he gives the animal a quick, reassuring scratch of the chin and a treat from the pouch - even though he knows that if the badger lost the scent then it most likely occupied itself by snacking on local bugs and field mice.

"Welcome back. Brother Sidanus was filling us in on some details about their conflict with some goblins. From the sound of things, we should proceed to the abbey as soon as possible."

The journey to the Abbey takes a bit of work, amd you arrive in the dark of night. The monks are happy to let whomever wishes take a turn helping to carry their fallen comrade. Brother Sidanous says little, but he does carry his corner of the bed without complaint or asking to rotate out.

Some of the silence is filled by Sister Arden. “You named the trained badger, Badger? Why? That was a strange choice, Person.”

 

”Anyway, I think you’ll like the Abbey. It’s not fancy like a tavern, but we have what we need. Mornings usually trade off between spiritual exercise and physical exercise. We’re supposed to accept whatever drills the Master of Arms comes up with, but it’s Thursday, so that usually means swords. You should join us. Oh, practice swords, of course.” she explains with a smile.

He didn't want to be a Stripe or Digger. Didn't seem partial to Sam or Matt. I don't know if he found my efforts undignified, or if those who reared him called him Badger so much it stuck, but it's the only thing he's ever wanted to respond to."

While the badger might be too dignified to respond to human attempts at naming, one thing he does appreciate is darkness, because darkness means bugs and bugs are treats. As the party travels the animal happily snarfles insects he finds, crunching away.

"As for swords," Orin gives a bit of a self-deprecating shrug, "I'd be happy to try. Hopefully, I won't make too much a fool of myself. I've always been more comfortable with my scythe here. It fits these clumsy farmboy hands."

The Abbey of the Valorous Knight is a strong-looking building, surrounded by high walls with white flags flying atop the ramparts. The pale moonlight seems to glow off the stones and the sense of strength and purity is almost overwhelming. As you approach the main gate, a solitary priest dressed in shining armor and a white surcoat approaches you.

(Brother Sidanus and the other monks are clearly known to him, and they carry their brother inside.)

“Greetings, I am Brother Didimus. What is your business at our Abbey?”

Brother Didimus leads you through the monastery. The building’s structure is very similar to that of a military complex. Finally coming upon a solid oak door inlaid with a silver lightning bolt striking through a crossed axe and longsword. The brother slams his hand on the doorframe hard three times, and awaits a response.

A muffled “Yes, come in brother” sounds from the other side, and Didimus opens the door to the Abbot’s study. Abbot Valentin is seated behind a large desk with a handful of papers in front of him. “Ahh, these are the warriors who found poor Brother Orden, eh? What can you tell me of this event?”

Queen Mhiryaana fluttered along with the others until they met Father Didimus whereupon the tiny fey said "well met Father Didimus, we are here to assist in the defence of this fine and good temple. My name is Queen Mhiryaana III but people call me Q" she said as she landed deftly before him.

He studies the abbey as they are guided toward the Abbott's office, taking in the details. "This is quite the formidable structure," he offers as they wait to be ushered inside.

Upon meeting Abbott Valentin, Orin offers a slight bow. "I wish there were more details we could give you, Abbott. Brother Orden arrived in the kitchen quite unexpectedly. We responded to the commotion and tried to render aid, but unfortunately, it was too late." He finishes with a sad shake of his head.

An adorable badger

With what sounds suspiciously like a grumble, Badger is sent away by Human. He snuffles and sniffs along the way, intent on rooting out any delicious mice or bugs that are hiding away from Other Humans, but are unable to escape the keen nose of Badger. Perhaps he will find a nice spot to dig a burrow. Digging is almost as fun as eating bugs, after all.

Orin continues his explanation to the Abbott. "I had hoped to find some sign of those who attacked Brother Orden, or to at least get a better sense of where he'd come from before arriving at the inn, but I was unable to."

He glances at the others to see if they have anything they want to add. He doesn't mention anything about the notes yet, since Q has seemed hesitant to reveal them so he'll wait and see what the pixie wants to do.

Flaming DwarfIgni remained solemn and silent on the way to the abbey. He took his turn carrying the bed as a sign of respect to a fellow man of the cloth, even if he served a different god. The discussion over Badger was amusing, but Igni had nothing much to add to it, not having much experience with animals.

The talk of goblins caught his attention though as all of goblinkind were the ancestral enemies of the dwarves. "I hear ye're beset by greenskins Abbott. Do ye have something they want? Surely there's easier targets for raiding than a fortress full of armed warriors! What can ye tell us about the raids?"

Then when the mention of work came up she added "I would not have it any other way", she began glancing around and picked up on some of the dusty spots missed by the regular housekeeper.
