The lawyer sighed but pulled out several clipped papers and one by one pushed them in front of Shang "Notarized copy of the document in which Daniel Von Herzog inherits the property, said nephew, notarized copy of the document of the transfer of the prophet to him, notarized copy of the original selling agreement with the property selling firm and 10 years worth of notes of paying renewing, notarized copy of the document in which my employer buys the property, and finally notarized copy of the document of transferring rights of the property from Mr. Van Herzog to my employer."

Feats: Sly Fortune (1st lvl), Victor's Luck (3rd lvl) both from Complete Scoundrel gives 2 luck rerolls.

Racial Abilities:

  • +2 Dexterity, -2 Strength.
  • Small: As a Small creature, a halfling gains a +1 size bonus to Armor Class, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, and a +4 size bonus on Hide checks, but she uses smaller weapons than humans use, and her lifting and carrying limits are three-quarters of those of a Medium character.
  • Halfling base land speed is 20 feet.
  • +2 racial bonus on ClimbJumpListen, and Move Silently checks.
  • Speak without Sound (Su): A ghostwise halfling, unlike other halflings, can communicate telepathically with any creature within 20 feet, just as if speaking to him or her. The halfling can only speak and listen to one person at a time, and he must share a common language with the person or creature he speaks to telepathically, or the telepathic link fails.

  • +2 morale bonus on saving throws against fear: This bonus stacks with the halfling’s +1 bonus on saving throws in general.
  • +1 racial bonus on attack rolls with thrown weapons and slings.

Polo steps into the tavern, flashes the barkeep a smile and flips him a coin before ordering a tankard of dark ale. He then walks over to join the others and listens as the youthful lawyer explains what their job would entail. He gives the lawyer a wink. "Sounds like we just might need a little of my ladies help here. I knew there was a reason I came on this job. I am Polo Devix follower of the Lady of Luck. At your service." he takes a deep sip of his dark beer and gives a contented sigh. "Now that's a good beer."  he pulls out a silver coin from his pouch that had an image of Lady luck on either side one a smiling face and the other side is frowning. "Sounds like our choice is speaking to the ghost or the locals first. So a toss of a coin gets my vote, smiles we see the ghost, frowns we speak to the locals."

Phillip shrugs "You are hired because you are professionals in this, proceed how you best see fit. Word of caution if you want to talk to the family better roam the house during daylight. It's a nightmare to spot a ghost in the dark even with Darkvision, and I'm told the other occupants stir then too."

Damian absently rubs his cheek, glancing around the room before returning his attention to their gathered little group. "Seems a bit impractical to talk to some ghosts at another location before speaking to the locals in the same room as us," he shrugs with one shoulder, "but I'll go along with what the rest of you decide. - Disguise Self: You can alter the appearance of your form as a
standard action. This effect works like the disguise self spell.
- Faster Ability Healing: You heal 1 point in each damaged
ability score every round, and 1 point in all drained ability
scores every hour.
- Naberius’s Skills: At the time you make your pact, you
can choose a number of skills equal to your Constitution
bonus (if any). Your choices must be skills that can’t be used
untrained and in which you have no ranks. For the duration
of the binding, you can make skill checks with your chosen
skills even though you are untrained. If your Constitution
modifi er decreases after you make the pact, you lose the
ability to make untrained checks with an equal number of
the chosen skills. Lost skills are chosen randomly, and they
remain inaccessible to you until you make another pact with
Naberius.
- Persuasive Words: You can direct a verbal command at a
single living target within 30 feet as if using the command
spell. A successful Will save negates the effect. When your
effective binder level reaches 14th, your words become even
more persuasive and this ability functions like the suggestion
spell. Once you have used this ability, you cannot do so again
for 5 rounds.
- Silver Tongue: You can take 10 on Diplomacy and Bluff
checks even if distracted or threatened. In addition, you can
make a rushed Diplomacy check as a standard action and take
no penalty. (Normally, a rushed Diplomacy check requires a
full-round action and imposes a –10 penalty on the check.)
+2 Disguise bonus when being observed and trying to act in character (Bluff synergy)
+2 Spellcraft to decipher scrolls (UMD synergy)

"Oh, they are chatty, too chatty sometimes, considering they have been alone for a long time with no one to talk to but themselves. You'll have more difficulty keeping them on the right conversational path than getting them to talk. Unless they decide to pretend they are asleep, I think they went a bit cooky over time" the lawyer shrugs "Or they were like that when they were alive too, I don't know. The issue is then it is hard to find them since they can sink into the floor, sofa, or something like that. Be respectful to them and you shouldn't have any problems with them. Well, unless it comes to...forced eviction, so to speak. Then I don't know."

Lumina listened intently to the conversation going on but had no reason to pipe up until now. To be honest I'm okay with visiting the ghosts but we need to be prepared for what lies in the forest and the house. While information from the locals sounds wonderful I'm okay going in the light of the morning. While I personally prefer the comfort of night I think it would only give our enemy the advantage. If there are no objections I think we speak to the locals today and head out early in the morning.

modifi er decreases after you make the pact, you lose the
ability to make untrained checks with an equal number of
the chosen skills. Lost skills are chosen randomly, and they
remain inaccessible to you until you make another pact with
Naberius.
- Persuasive Words: You can direct a verbal command at a
single living target within 30 feet as if using the command
spell. A successful Will save negates the effect. When your
effective binder level reaches 14th, your words become even
more persuasive and this ability functions like the suggestion
spell. Once you have used this ability, you cannot do so again
for 5 rounds.
- Silver Tongue: You can take 10 on Diplomacy and Bluff
checks even if distracted or threatened. In addition, you can
make a rushed Diplomacy check as a standard action and take
no penalty. (Normally, a rushed Diplomacy check requires a
full-round action and imposes a –10 penalty on the check.)
+2 Disguise bonus when being observed and trying to act in character (Bluff synergy)
+2 Spellcraft to decipher scrolls (UMD synergy)

While the bartender smiles so widely by now that it looks painful and tries to sputter out a few words of thanks his two other customers are the opposite. More Damian is friendlier and generous they look at him with more suspicion. Likely familiar with the saying "There is no such thing as a free lunch." They seem on the brink of leaving when he approaches them with a question. Two exchange quick glance, they look like average Half-Orc workers, likely seasonal. Rough and tumble crowd, better than their adventuring or bandit cousins only by a little. Both are covered with a myriad of scars and actually, one that finally gives a brief nod looks like he went through the saw himself. Scars covered nearly every inch of his skin despite being the smaller of the two.

His larger compatriot not lacking in the scar department himself, but at least looking like he got them the usual way and not by swimming through razorblades speaks. His voice is rough and has a rasp likely caused by years of inhaling od sawdust "We are not locals, come here 3-4 months a year when the mill needs extra hands so I can't say much. No fearsome creature for us, but when you spend most of the year looking for a job there is little in the forest you fear. But compared to other seasons locals seem more jittery than usual. Local Goblins got bolder too, since they moved to that private forest some five years ago, most they did was nuisance. Livestock stealing, theft, rare attacks on isolated farms. Small stuff, Goblin nonsense. But in five years they didn't come close to the village proper, or workers camp. Village because despite its size they do have something that could pass for guards, more militia with spears and wooden shields but enough for Goblins. As for us none of us claims to be warriors, but all know how to hold a weapon if need be."

He scratches behind the head "Still, since we arrived, two weeks ago, there have been three attacks, two on village and one on camp. Both times at the village they tried to kidnap someone, the first time they overshot their abilities and went for Marrin, he might be just 16 but the boy is Old Borg's son, a local blacksmith, and basically grew up with a hammer in his hand. He beat 6 of them so badly with just a stick they had to carry two of them on their backs when they ran. The second time though it was just luck it didn't end badly. They jumped two of the village children at the "Hole", that's what they call a place where they go swimming. Apparently river was too shallow at that place and they dug something like a basin, it's barely up to my knees but for children is more than enough. Anyway, two were jumped by Goblins, they already bound their hand and feet when by luck one of the parents showed up to pick up theirs for lunch. They broke the neck of one of the vermin and strangled another, two managed to escape."

"Not even two nights later Hunchback, one of ours, caught half dozen of them in the shed where we keep tools like axes, bark knives, new saw blades, a lot of sharp stuff. We killed all of them, hard to run when you are cornered in the shed." He shakes his head "But sheer brazen ones to break in, and in search for stuff that even they could easily convert into decent weapons... Something is egging them on. And as I said that's only last two weeks, ask locals for more, I doubt they waited for us to start with it. As for anything away from our area..." He shrugs "No idea, but like I said locals look mighty jittery. Heard some proposing to ask the closest town for the guard contingent. But apparently issue is their lair is on private land."

Coming back to the table where the rest of the party waits, Damian reports his findings. "Seems as if the goblins have become more bold, recently - perhaps driven on by an outside influence." He shrugs with one shoulder. "We might find out more by asking around, but I'm not sure how likely it is. May be best to wait until morning and take a look for ourselves, depending on how the rest of you feel."
