Title

For some reason I can’t click into the title to change it, but never mind for now imagine it says “GM note.”

The 8 pointed star bears a strong resemblance to a compass rose, as Calyx pointed out. The are no directional labels (North, East, etc) at the Points to hint which way East is from. The stylized design of the symbol is jogging something in your memory. Any party member may attempt a knowledge (local) check to identify the symbol.

Alura approaches the five pillars, looking to see what, if any images are depicted on there, like thet snakes on the other pillars. Glancing up at the star, she nods to herself that it does indeed look like a compass rose. A memory naggles at her and she tries to recall it...

"Guardian!", shouts Tann in warning, to alert her comrades to the danger. As gazes turn towards her, they find her in the entranceway, where her native caution had directed her to remain. Her arm, now outstretched, is pointing towards the pillar in the left of the room. "A magical cobra thing.", she adds, without pause, even as she casts a defensive spell.

At least they won't be taken by surprise.

At nearly the same time Tann spoke, Iridni was also shouting, "There's some sort of Cobra construct up ahead, watch yourself!" She drew her crossbow and wracked her brain for any memory of such a creature. She was pretty sure she'd read something about something like that, but details about weaknesses or strengths were escaping her.

Once Tann and Iridni call it out the rest of the party see it as well. Coils of iron looped tightly together are formed into the shape of a 5 long cobra. It’s eye are pinpricks of faint arcane light.

Tann nods at Iridni.. in a 'well done' manner, happy to see a doubling down on the warning. It spoke well of things to come. She was on the brink of saying 'grapple it to subdue it, it'll be worth more' but decided to bite her tongue instead.

Marshaling her resources, Alura stands ready to act the moment that she sees the cobra make a move toward herself or anyone else, she will attack with a hydraulic push, moving it back five or more feet

On the Flirty Frigate

Before the mechanical snake appeared, or at least before she noticed it, Seraphina was thinking about the star symbol.

"Hmm, looks like something I've seen before. There's this building on the West end, in the Merchant district has that symbol. It's the base for a group of adventurers called The Seekers. I don't know too much about them, but maybe your family has some connection to the... wha? Guardian? Cobra? What cobra?"

Then she saw it thanks to Tann and Iridni's warnings. She replied to Urthan's question, "What, do I look like someone who knows anything about metal snake toys? Same way you kill anything else, I expect? Massive amounts of traumatic force. Maybe hit it a little harder on account of being made of metal and all? I know you can do it, big guy!"

She was not ready on her feet for an attack.

"Iron Cobras are magic resistant, and very durable. Unless one of us has some adamantine, it's going to be hard to do much damage to it in any given blow!" She warned. She didn't have much she could do beyond that, unfortunately, especially against a construct, she could just hope - when she got an opening - that maybe one of her crossbow bolts hit hard enough to hurt a little.

A Guardian? Ooh I have to see what my parents picked. Impetuously, Lavinia wriggles to the front of the line. Is it that snake? Figures, but that was mom for you, you know? She points at it as she asks. Her family ring is still on her hand since she just used it as a key to open the door to the antechamber.

When she points something strange happens: the snake hastily retreats behind the column on the west. It is scared of you. Maybe you can attack it from range or we can just sneak around the other column? The heiress suggests.
