Rakle Posted February 23 Author Clone Share Posted February 23 Day 5 5 am The crew digs into the books. . . History. The Paracount Ioseff was bard with a muse that drove him to focus upon dark topics. He was already learning about the dark tapestry and similar topics even before he became a Paracount. During he studies, he learned that TCHEKUTH was slain thousands in this region. He also learned that this entity probably isn't truly dead but more in sleeping stasis. When he became a Paracount, he requested this region for Tchekuth's tomb. After he discovered the location of the tomb, he had his manor built over it. The missing workers were the men that built the access to the underground tunnels, and improved any rooms. They were poisoned for their efforts and their bodies were thrown into that underground pool. Spies, mercenaries, and thieves were employed by Ioseff to collect the materials that he needed. Most shared the same fate as the workers. During his research, he learned that a starless scope was available in Ustalav. He traveled to Ustalav to acquire it. While their a couple of things happened, he attended a several lectures on the occult and astronomy by Faldur, a Professor of Astronomy at the Sinkomakti School. He would later pay kidnappers to bring Faldur to his manor. Faldur's brain would be removed and place in the clock. Then Ioseff would use the brain as a research partner. He also met Fulvia, the half-woman, an astronomer at the Sinkomatki School. She also had a strong interest in the dark tapestry. They become research partners that quickly turned into a love affair. During the peak of the love affair, they exchanged rings. The entire thing fell apart when they had the opportunity to acquire the starless scope. They both wanted it, but Ioseff had more financial resources. He purchased it and returned home. Upon returning home, he started to experiment. He slowly start waking up Tchekuth. The power of this god started leaking into the manor and the surrounding grounds. All of the manifestations and corruptions in these areas are due to these powers. This disruption started to draw the psychopomps to the area. Ioseff began to fear and hate them due to his link to the dark powers. While his wife become more fascinated with them. Ioseff's marriage was already floundering on rocks when Fulvia appeared on their doorstep with her young son - Ioseff's bastard. Fulvia wanted access to Ioseff's research materials, and threatened to expose the affair if he didn't allow it. Asethanna (his wife) came from longstanding and well connected noble house. As a 1st generation noble, he didn't want a fight with them. She was allowed to stay as a guest. This arrangement seemed to work for awhile. Then Fulvia smothered her son. She had learned that Ioseff had planned to use their child in an experiment. Knowing that she couldn't escaped, she killed the child and tried to burn down the house. Ioseff had her sent to an asylum to never be heard from again. Asethana had been suspicious of Fulvia from moment that the half-elf woman had arrived. After the Fulvia was sent away, Asethana searched the guest room and found one of the rings that Fulvia and Ioseff exchanged. Ioseff had his destroyed after leaving Ustalav, but Fulvia kept her ring. Carrying one of her woodworking hatchets, Asethana storms into the Ioseff's second floor study. In a fury, she throws the ring at him, and accuses him of infidelity. Laughing at her, he places the ring upon a finger on his left hand and tells her that Fulvia had been a much better lover. Whack off comes his left hand. She grabs the hand and runs to the washroom and tosses it into the lit fireplace. Next she gets the majordomo, and then they head to her room to start packing. After staunching his bleeding, and taking a several minutes to recover from his trauma; Ioseff goes after his wife. He blasts the two women with grim tendrils. He finishes off the majordomo, and takes his dying wife to his basement labs. He uses various drugs to keep her from immediately dying. Then he returns upstairs. Using a mix of drugs and blunt trauma, he subdues both of his children. Then he takes them to the basement lab. He proceeds to remove all of their brains, and store them in special containers. He informs that servants that family has left on an extended visit to Asethana's family, and the upper floors are now off limits. One the servants becomes suspicious and sneaks upstairs. Ioseff finds her and strangles her. Ioseff's plan After years of research, and experimentation; Ioseff has determined the Tchekuth is a godlike being. He knows that he cannot control him. However, Ioseff plans to become this being's high priest/avatar, and then return Tchekuth to life. As Tchekuth's power spreads across the world so would Isoseff's power expand. As part of the initial awakening process, Ioseff has linked his spirit to Tchekuth. He currently isn't powerful enough to do it. Ioseff had learned that he grow more power by using certain dark rights to absorb the minds of others. This power works better with bloodlines or people with strong emotional attachment to the user. His young son was going to be the first test subject before being killed. To further increase the power of the mind absorption, he was going to summon a creature from the dark tapestry called a brain collector. He was going to absorb its powers. His last journal was about starting this process . . . the next page contains blood fingerprints and messy writing. It appears the Ioseff was trying to cast a ritual spell to save his life but he died before he could complete it. Undoing his plan: The ritual is started but unfinished. The party didn't kill Ioseff. He is only disrupted and will take a couple of days to reform. He can still complete the ritual if he can reform and capture someone's body. First. The brains of his wife and children must be freed from their canisters. In his lab, those were the canisters on top of a statue. This will finally kill them and allow their spirits to go to the boneyard. Second, in the top room (3rd floor), there is an object called a void mirror. It can be used for summoning rites and unsummoning rites related to the dark tapestry. At the top of the underground shaft (the one Hoog looked up) is a frame designed to hold the mirror. More importantly it is designed to trigger the unsummoning powers. Doing this two items will break this mind absorption ritual and undo the awakening the process that has already been completed. After Tchekuth returns to his slumber, all of the haunts and other corruptions will lose their powers. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Early next morning the party rises...
