bloodsprite Posted December 11, 2023 Clone Share Posted December 11, 2023 Saai Vees, upon seeing the elven figure emerge, maintains her poised composure. She quickly assesses the situation, considering the lack of immediate hostility and the absence of overtly threatening gestures. Her keen intuition suggests this might be a moment for diplomacy rather than conflict. As the elf addresses them in what seems like an accented Elven, Saai Vees gracefully assumes that the individual might speak with civility. In response, she offers a polite and formal greeting in Elvish, "Suilad, mellon. Ná lû e-govaned vîn, kinsman. We mean no harm and seek only passage through this place. Can we be of accord?" Her words carry a tone of diplomacy and a genuine desire for understanding. Even if the communication is challenging due to accents and language variations, Saai Vees approaches the situation with grace and a willingness to find common ground. Ruess Posted December 15, 2023 Author Clone Share Posted December 15, 2023 The Lights In The Dark He stands there, this surly elven figure, listening as each of you speaks up. Some of you - Mahdi - he almost tracks with a focucs in his eyes - and some - your dragon, who pipes up in Draconic, your wizard Ruven - he stares at with clear bafflement on his features. It is quite a sight. Then Saai Vees and Doallyn both add in their words at full and this elf hides his face in a gauntleted hand followed by a pained groan. It is largely foillowed by him raising his arms at you, likely indicating a halt. You hear several groans as this elf, looks your group over, very clearly attempting to parse all your speeches. You can clearly see how the effort of wrangling the entire mess is giving him a substantial headache. Eventually, it seems that he finds some measure of focus because he looks up and begins to address your group. First, he addresses Mahdi in Undercommon; as he speaks he gestures to his right, where the corridor seems to continue. He pauses for breath, and then adds. Translation From Undercommon "Right. So. Yeah. Alright. Alright. I take it you're the guy from the black market? You'll find Ratface down the corridor. Stick to the left side wall and dont wander through any doors. That one magic guy we brought in said something about illusions but didn't deign to actually say what they're actually about. Mandy lost an arm with one of the doors so Hells if I know." [Pause for breath.] "One more thing. Hells Bells you've got a pair on you to get an escort with a dragon and a drow. And just so we're clear, I'm not paid enough to do more than stand guard here. Any violence that happens past me is beyond me, yeah?" With that all spoken, the elf switches to his northern Elven Dialect to address your drow and elemental-blooded wizard, with a tone that carries substantial frustration in it through any and all language barriers. In particular, you can see how those hands gesture with a speed and some heat. Ruess Posted January 6 Author Clone Share Posted January 6 (edited) The Lights In The Dark The guard looks bored at the face of Saai's courtesy, and a nudge annoyed that you people are still talking to him. Then, when Saai makes an indication at the money pouch... That's when there is a shift and that expression of annoyance becomes far more interested. He nods along when Saai motions with her coins and hands. You have no doubt that you have awoken the guard's greed, and should be able to leverage that to your benefit here. Saai has the guard's sole and unbroken focus. First, the guard exclaioms something and follows it with a smile that reaches his eyes. He takes a moment to consider, hands twiddling as an indicator of serious thoughtwork in progress. Then, snapping his fingers, he answers something. After the first bout of words, he seems to indicate at your magicians and at your dragon in particular. Then, another pause. His eyes go hither, tither, and his hands seem to graps at something as though in memory. Translation From Elven Dialect Well! Now that you asked. Cards I don't know about but I might know a few guys who are in the card scece. If your ladyship has the coin I know they'll happily tell you everything about they know. Metals I don't know about, unless you're looking for discrete smiths. By the look of your mages and dragon here I don't think you're here to offload any shinies but I can give two good names for if you are looking for something shiny and exotic. And.. There was a bag of gems that Ratface was gushing over. Just about wet his pants if you can believe it. I overheard him and Crow gushing how there was a big purple one there. Don't ask about it directly though, Ratface was very twitchy about it for some reason. Almost nailed that Tailor guy just for walking near it. As he reaches the guard he suddenly turns to gesture to his crew, a maneuver that discretely puts the tips of his fingers right at the pommel of his blade. "Come on then, we can't keep our business associates waiting can we?" He talks casually to the man in Undercommon as if congratulating the guard on their recent windfall. "هل نصبتم كمينًا لهؤلاء المغفلين المتعفنين هناك الآن؟ هل لديهم أي غنائم جيدة؟" As the others filter through the door he, cool as a cucumber, steps aside like he's going to discuss some sensitive business connected with the bribery they have going on presently. The others will surely notice the amount of hand gestures that Undercommon employs in casual speech. "يا صديقي، لنفترض أننا أردنا الذهاب للتنقيب في هذا المكان بعيدًا. بعيدًا عن منطقة طاقمك، ما هو كل هذا العمل "الورقي" الذي يجري هناك مع ذلك العمود المثير؟ لم يكن هناك الكثير من الأشجار هنا في آخر مرة. التحقق!"
