Karadoon

Karadoon rushed forward as Stavard came under assault. He screamed as he ran, hoping the beast could be distracted if confronted by more than one opponent.

"Ye foul heap of maggots! Hands off my friends!"

Harlan drops into a fighting stance, looking at the fearsome plant creature. He determines that he can close quickly on it, standing to the west of Stavard. Ankle deep in the flowing stream, Harlan roars and flies out with a hearty punch!

Late Summer - Day 72 - Northward to the Oracles

With a creaking sound as branches break and vines snap - the material composing it, the creature collapses back into a mound - once again creating a stillness in the air.

That stillness only lasts for a few seconds, however, before the debris starts to move and creak once again. It seems to collapse in upon itself, roiling like it is violently being sucked down below.

Stavard staggers back after leading a rough killing blow that proved to be enough to still their foe. The price he paid so far was weariness and a small gash in a gap in his armor. A few feet awkwardly back then he regained steadier footing and stepped away calmly, eyes focused and weapon at the ready.

This new devilry perhaps would be worse than the old. Or perhaps it was the mere subsistence of an abomination whose lease on the mortal realm was up?

Karadoon
bZsmmIb.png

Karadoon stepped forward as the thing collapsed prepared to drive another blow, but it was dead. Or was it...

"Is it falling back into it's burrow? Or dying? Mayhap we should keep an eye on this thing for a while, who can say if it is truly dead?"

After a few more seconds, the roiling of the debris slows - and then stops.

A pause.

A pause longer.

And the limbs and branches begin to push up and outward. A slender, sage-colored arm pops out, then another. Pushing the branches away, a head, shoulders, and the rest of the body, innocent of the trappings of civilization, climbs out.

She looks at you quizzically, and says, "⍙⊑⍜ ⏃⍀⟒ ⊬⍜⎍?"

Stavard lowers his hammer and backs up, saying

We were travelers passing through this land until we were assailed by whatever form or thing you were previously conjoined or integral to. We seek no more quarrel if you do not seek one either.

He spoke in a calm voice and although he doubted that she spoke his language as he did not understand a word of hers the meaning would hopefully not be lost. The meaning being that they were out of place and did not mean for any more blood to be shed at this time, at this place.

spacer.pngThe struggle had been ended quickly, in no small part thanks to the decisive action of her new companions. She breathed a sigh of relief, and inwardly thanked her lucky star for not needing to wade into the melee. She knew that no amount of fencing lessons would have done her much good against the monstrosity, and she was never a particularly diligent student of the blade to begin with.

Such relief, however, was short-lived. As the sage-skinned humanoid emerged from the branches, her eyes went wide with amazement. She quickly sheathed her blade and placed two gloved hands in front of her, exactly where the... woman? could see them. A response more exaggerated than Stavard's, to be sure, but one meant to convey the same overall meaning.

Had her books and education ever made mention of something even remotely resembling anything like this?

Karadoon
spacer.png

Karadoon stared in disbelief as his companions lowered their weapons. Moments passed and the woodland creature made no hostile move so he followed suit, lowering his axe.

A memory floated to the surface. Greta had shown him how that other cultures here had used dwarven runes to communicate. Kneeling slowly he wrote the words for Dwarf, Teee, Forest, and River in the dirt. Then he drew a rough picture of each next to the word.

"Maybe the written word can assist us."

brother_koji.png.db3e3bb099e1b76d282b3e6b702cc501.pngBrother Koji

Panting from the burst of fighting, Koji, cleaned his mace before slowly lowering it into its belt loop. He was enrapt as the swamp thing seemed to shrivel up and sink, and was about to start talking and take notes when the strange female figure approached. He averted his eyes from her seemingly naked form. As she spoke words that he didn't recognise, or did he, he had travelled a bit, and read many books, was there something similar, he wracked his brain, as he tried to comprehend what she said.

As Karadoon made runes in the dirt, Koji at the same time pointed to himself and said "Koji" then pointed at the woman, it was Ill-timed as Karadoon pointed to the runes.

Late Summer - Day 72 - Northward to the Oracles

spacer.png

The woman looks to the dwarven runes, and her eyes light up. In an ancient form of dwarven, she says, "Wizja haluth jeg uz ilv jala tho, however mot vurth ynsta ilv hef hverth hloradur?"

Looking to Brother Koji, she bows low, straightens, points to herself, and says, "Talula."
