Not having thought about it, on hearing Keshka talk about losing an arm, T'Sarra yanked hers out quickly.

"Good point. Also, how do we figure out how to access or open whatever is behind there if we can't see through the illusion?" She leaned in close and squinted, keeping her nose back from the illusory wall but trying to see through it, at least to get a sense what was behind it.

"Well standing around here doesn't seem like a good solution." She took her length of rope off her pack where it was tied down and tied it around herself. "Okay, I don't know if sound is blocked past there, or there is a big hole or anything. So, if I give 1 tug and then nothing pull me out. 3 tugs, proceed after me. Understand?" Usually the smallest was sent in but that did not seem like the best course of action with this lot. She handed the rope to T'Sarra and saying a short prayer under her breath stepped into the illusion.

Black Hill Caves — Glowing Tunnel

spacer.pngAs the rest of the group contemplates the cave and the illusion at the back, Val seems to be completely absorbed in her own thoughts, her expression barely hiding the discomfort from her most recent experiences.

 

spacer.png"No wait!" The android shouted, just a tad too late, as by the time the first syllable came Keshka had already passed through the illusory rock wall to the other side.


 

Black Hill Caves — Strange Machines

Keshka Only

This metal room is brightly lit by glowing panels in the ceiling above. To the left and right, complex machines consisting of spiral tubes and nozzles twitch and hum. On the wall opposite to where you came in, the door is closed. Looking back towards the way you came through, it is in fact a door, and not a rock wall.

Black Hill Caves — Strange Machines

Keshka Only

You feel an immediate sense of unease, the room tingles with a static charge, the air smells slightly charred. There's a couple of spots on the wall and strange machinery that are blackened, the metal having taken on significant discolouration.

 

Bzzt...zhack! You barely manage to duck out of the way as a burst of electricity discharges from one of the discoloured sections of metal machine, but some of the arcing zaps you nonetheless.

"So be careful in there. There must be a way to stop it." Keshka went over the details of what she had seen. "It smelled... burnt and like the moment before lightning strikes. The discolored bits are where the shocks come from. The machines are really complicated looking and this 'wall' is a door. Um, there is a door on the other side but it is closed and I get to open it. And it is brightly lit, there are panels that glow."

Rope still tied to her waist she paced a bit trying to figure out if there were a way to get through. Had she encountered anything like it from previous digs?

T'Sarra doesn't know the first thing about engineering. But she can count. Listening she waits for a 'BZZT' then holds up her fingers counting slowly "One... Two..." Stopping at the next BZZT! Counting how many beats between them.

"Think we can get through, maybe one at a time in between Bzzts?" She asked after timing a few spaces.

The machines on the wall don't seem familiar to anything other than perhaps those you recently saw just before entering this weird underground desert environment.

Barhuce Only

From the description you're getting from Keshka, you gather that the spiraling tubes and nozzles must be for dispersing something or other. Perhaps this is similar to the other room you've already seen just before entering this weird underground desert environment?


As you all each focus on the sound of the zapping from the room beyond, you come to agree that there's about every eighteen seconds in between each sound.
