At the tentabeast

"You?" She looked back at Keshka trying to pull her boots out of the muck.

"Couldn't warn anybody about that, like Barhuce said" she kicked it a few times to make sure it wasn't moving. She nodded in appreciation for the help from Vri and Keshka in getting out, except.

"Yeah, no point in going back. If Val and Barhuce don't know what this is, nobody else is going to either. Onwards, and let's hope it's the oddest thing we see today. And hopefully the sticky mess is cleaned up before we come back."

Assuming she could get herself unstuck and move forward on bone islands or whatever, T'Sarra moved forward onto the sand. But first she used their wand to heal up some of the bleeding that Val and Barhuce were doing all over the cave.

"I also think it's best to move on," Vri said, "we just have to be careful and look around for any of these strange and well camouflaged things, whatever form they might take."

Helping Keskha with the metal plates to move over the affected area, Vri then moved on carefully and cautiously, looking out for other strange critters, traps or interesting things.

Black Hill Caves — Stone Cavern / Underground Desert

Picking through the junk in the previous room, you manage to find a small variety of metal scrap to lay on top of the fluid damp sand. Peculiarly however, the sticky secretions stop gumming up after a little while, and begin sliding off your boots as though it had suddenly lost its viscosity.

 

Still, being careful to lay down your path over that area, the lot of you manage to clamber over the coral-like carapace of the creature blocking the path out of the cavern, into the area beyond.

 

spacer.png "Thanks T'Sarra." Val caught up to the tieflingto acknowledge the healing from the wand, but kept pretty well to herself otherwise after the no doubt traumatizing encounter.

 

At first glance, this cold cavern presents a strange and disconcerting vista — that of a desert valley under a starless, night sky. A stretch of sand covers the ground, a vista broken here and there by bits of strange, spiky shells or contorted, dead fronds that look like branches. The only illumination here is what you bring.

"How did this come to be," Vri asked, "well, lets proceed with caution."

She would first check for any tracks or obvious issues, before cautiously moving forward on the sand, heading towards the rock on the east side of the cave.

"Oh hells, that's unreal." Keshka stared at the expanse in amazement. Still any wide open space held dangers, more so when you couldn't see into it. "Don't go to far out, sand can be dangerous." She carefully stepped out onto the sand, staying near the walls and tried to see if there were any tracks or other signs of activity.

Underground Desert

"Well that's .. unexpected. How does this even fit under the pond? I mean I guess there's a mountain over us but, wow." she rambled a bit as she took in what she could. Remembering, she fished through the communal bag for an ioun torch and tossed it to whiz around, giving Keshka some more light to track with.

"The sand definitely might be dangerous. No telling how many more of those tentacle things there are under it. But if Khonnir came this way, we need to as well. Any luck finding tracks, Keshka?"

Black Hill Caves — Underground Desert

It takes Keishka and Vri very little time to pick up the tracks leading toward the east, as the changeling notes a peculiar absence of wind in this landscape, which probably contributes to the preservation of footprints here in this area.

 

spacer.png"Hey look at that…" Val said as she pointed out the branch-like frond closest to you, "Doesn't that look like the chalk drawing we saw back in the caves?"

 

spacer.pngComing up just past T'Sarra now, the android is still taking in the strange new environment, her head tilting this way and that as she looks around. Then she taps the tiefling on the shoulder saying as she gestures up, "Horned and tailed one, look."

 

T'Sarra Only

At some point fifty feet or above, the rocky cliffs give way to a featureless, slightly curved sheet of what looks to be dark grey metal, not dissimilar to the stuff that made up the walls and such in the rooms you had just come through. Could this thing be a dome of some kind?

"Guess the skulks must have made it this far," she mumbled, watching Barhuce collect the frond. She followed Keshka out onto the trail, not going too far, just a few feet at a time.

"T'Sarra is fine Violet. But I see. Look, up at the top of the cliffs it looks like it transitions to the same metal the door and walls are made of. Could we be in a dome? I mean that makes sense, what else is keeping the mountain from falling on our heads. Doesn't matter though, I doubt Khonnir is up there. He might be at the end of this trail though."

"As I said, unreal." Keshka smiled in gratitude as T'Sarra pulled out the ion stone to light the way. "I appreciate the thought of the mountain staying away from my head, but who could have made something like this? I find surface stuff all the time but not this deep underground." She shuddered a little at the thought of all the great hollow spaces she might have been walking over her whole life. Composing herself she started to lead the group down the trail.

"Maybe the mountain grew around this dome," Vri said, "like a volcano. Anyway, since neither of us can do anything about it, speculating is pointless. Where to now?"

As she can't see everything around, she will follow the rest of the group, especially those with darkvision.

Black Hill Caves — Underground Desert

Your group begins trodding down the path, following the trail of footprints in the sand, with those who can see well in the dark leading the pack. In the distance, there looks to be the tip of a rocky outcropping toward the east.

 

spacer.png"Hey guys look! Over there, there's light." Val draws your attention once again, pointing toward the east-southeast, where indeed there is a distant glow. It's difficult to judge, but you would have to say that it's at least a hundred fifty to two hundred feet away.

 

 

Distracted by the discovery, the movement of a six-limbed skeleton rising from underneath the sand didn't even register until it was close enough to take a swipe at Violet, though thankfully the android moved away quick enough to avoid its claw.

"Why not," Vri said with a sigh as the skeleton appeared. She took a step to the side and tried to attack, knowing that her weapon wasn't the best, but she might focus its attention to her so the others can attack easier.
