Underground Desert

T'Sarra shook her head and frowned, considering the options, while helping Vri search for other passages in this small cave.

"We could try to look for another way outside too. There is a huge honking desert out there, who knows how many other passages lead off of it? But this one was lit up. I think it's not too much of a stretch to say Khonnir might have seen the same light we did and got through here. If we don't find another passage through here, I feel we need to give it a try. One at a time, in between zaps."

Black Hill Caves — Glowing Tunnel

Vri Only

Search as you might, the surrounding area seems to be devoid of much else. This looks like the only cavern or tunnel nearby.

 

Besides, the tracks in the sand clearly lead here, which means that if they were indeed left by Khonnir's expedition, then this would be the way they had come.

Underground Desert

T'Sarra shrugged. If Khonnir came this way, they needed to work it out too.

"OK here we go. Eighteen seconds. (Or whatever they call that unit of time around Torch)" She counted up eighteen from one Bzzt then as soon as the next one happened, rushed in, counting as she went. She took a quick peek, looked for any doors on the other side, opened them and went through to the other side.

If she made it through to the other side without being barbecued, she tugged on the rope connected to Keshka.

Round 1: enter zappy room

Round 2: locate and open door to other side

Round 3: leave zappy room to other side. If there is no obvious exit door, go back to others.

Black Hill Caves — Glowing Cavern / Strange Machines

T'Sarra Only

As you enter through the illusory rock wall, you feel an immediate sense of unease, the room tingles with a static charge, the air smells slightly charred. There's a couple of spots on the wall and strange machinery that are blackened, the metal having taken on significant discolouration.

 

But otherwise the room looks relatively similar to the one you came out of when you first entered the cavern leading into the desert landscape. On the far side there is another door, closed, along with a small panel on the wall like all of the other doors you've seen lately. The room itself is lit by bright panels in its ceiling.


T'Sarra disappears through the illusory rock wall, and re-emerges shortly after.

Underground Desert

T'Sarra smiled at Keshka, Val and the rest as she moved out from the false wall.

"Door on the other side. Need one of those ... what you call them? Cards? You know the beep beep boop doors." She rolled her eyes and motioned unintelligibly with her hands, unable to really articulate what she needed, but hoped someone could figure her out.

"The timing isn't that tight, we could probably all get through. Just keep the 18 count going in your head and if it gets too close, come back, wait for the zap and try again."

If she got a card she did the count again, waited for the zap, stepped in, tried to open the door with the keycard and if it opened stepped through. If it didn't she stepped back before 18 seconds were up.

spacer.png"BeepBipBoopBaleewaleeiee..." As Violet once again rehashes the strings of beeps and boops in her merrily oblivious manner, Val fishes one of the card-like objects with a brown stripe out of her bag and hands it to T'Sarra.

 

spacer.png"We may as well keep these on our persons." She starts handing the rest of the stack out to the group, a total of five cards being distributed. The only person who doesn't get one for now is the android. "You're just gonna have to stay with me until we can find you one, Violet."

 

With that done, T'Sarra disappears back into the illusory rock wall.
 

T'Sarra Only

You time your approach between the zaps, and rush over to the opposite wall to tap your card against the little panel.

 

Almost immediately, a slight whooshing sound indicates the opening of the door, revealing a corridor beyond with the same metallic walls and floors as you've already been somewhat used before.

T'Sarra rushed through, into the next room, halting just on the other side of the door before the equipment zapped again.

"All clear, come on through after next zap," she called back as quietly as she could manage while being loud enough for those twenty or thirty feet back to hear. If nobody came through on the next window, she'd move back, tell them and then forward.

Black Hill Caves — Glowing Cavern / Strange Machines

One after another, you pass through the electrically charged room, card-like objects in hand. The door opens to each of you in turn, with a tap of each card on the panel next to the door, closing behind you once you have passed.

 

Following behind, Val and Violet come through the door together, finding themselves rejoined with the rest of you in a grey metallic hallway, lit with a white light emitted from regularly spaced ceiling panels above.

 

Ahead of you, there is a closed door about thirty feet away, just in front of which the hallway turns a corner and continues to snake forward. You notice also that this hallway seems to be slightly curved.

Ignoring the door for now, Vri moved cautiously forward, checking for traps along the way and having a look around the corner. If there was nothing there, she would wait for the others to come closer as well, before using the card thingy on this door to see if it works.
