Kaldakaczil enjoyed the brief sense of weightlessness that came from their descent, reminding him of when he could soar through the air underneath the power of his own wings. Although it didn't feel quite right without the wind rushing past his wings, or them kept closed against his back to not push any of the party off the lift, but he'd take solace in the fleeting sense of familiarity nonetheless.

When the lift finally came to a stop, the dragon slithered out and glanced around, taking advantage of his exceptionally keen sense of vision as well to try and see if there was anything amiss. "Or perhaps looted by those that rose from Undermountain to attack the Ward... But if they were animated, might there not be a lingering trace of the magic? If there's any worth to investigating such a possibility," the dragon spoke, taking a step forward to take up the vanguard for the party as he glanced around for any signs of danger.

Robin Kirkko

egXhMPu.jpgRobin cheers as they plunge to the depths and hops off the platform when they stop. "Let's get down to business!" He tiptoes through the bones. "Well, looks like someone had a bit too much business. No doubt many a battle happened here as people tried to flee back up the platform. BUT! Undermountain has never seen the likes of US has it?" He smiles handsomely, his impressive jaw surely reminding others of the great heroes of legend.

He starts looking the place over with one of the everburning torches.

Description

Robin is a straw haired tomcat. He is tall, strapping, and handsome, with blonde hair carefully tousled for a rakish look, blue eyes, and a strong jaw. He always dresses in clothes that show off his physique. He is, as one would expect of a cleric of Sune, incredibly vain and considers his hair his best feature. His focus on superficial matters might give the impression that he isn't all that bright. One the other hand, be sincerely sees the beauty in other people--whether outer beauty or inner beauty. He carries a shield depicting the face of a beautiful red haired maiden, and has a rosary of glass beads with the same symbol on the end dangling from his belt.

Doallyn continued to remain unimpressed by the attention seeking cleric, or his bravado.

A likely similar final thought of many of the dead that lay before us. One that ended poorly because they overestimated themselves, or underestimated the possible threats within.  I'd rather remain cautious than glory hound.

The mage pulled the crossbow and verified that it was loaded. Taking the new lighter that he had acquired he lit the tip of one of the wooden bolts on fire. Seeing there were no clear visible edges that could be seen, he picked a random direction and fired the bolt, arching it a bit to get maximum distance. Hopefully the illumination could provide some additional insight into the contents of the pit or a possible direction to continue.

"Well, technically its seen my like before. Since it saw me before. Granted, I was in far better shape the first time, and it was a different path than the safer, certain one we now tread," the dragon mused in response to the cleric's boasts before turning his keen gaze to follow the bolt's journey through the darkness, seeing if his keener eyes might pick up anything that might escape the rest's vision. "Although its all a bit of a blur, so I won't exactly be much help in answering what we may find beyond what we've already garnered from rumors."

The Light In The Dark

You stand there, on the elevator, choosing caution over bravery. The rest of the group focuses their senses upon the scattering of bony remains around you, save for Doallyn who focuses his mind upon a crossbow and its bolt slinging mechanism. As consequence, the silence of the still chamber is broken by the solid twang! of a crossbow firing. Nothing stirs as direct consequence, so you have a short-lived moment to observe as the bolt flies, a tiny little spark against the lightless void.

Its flight lasts for a short time. Its arc is beautiful even if it is so very distant so very soon.

There is a clack, a faint and tiny noise. It rings so very weakly, a gossamer thin noise that you might have imagined had you not seen the bolt as it flew. It is a confirmation that tells you the bolt found something against which it impacted, and if you were to guess it sounded like a stone surface.

"Wait a moment," the dragon froze in his tracks, looking to and fro in every direction with the assistance of Daollan's sunrod. "The skeletons here aren't laid out naturally. None of them are placed on top of each other, and there's a variety of both humanoid and some animal bones in the mix. I think it might be a pattern, but I don't recognize it if its meant to be a symbol," he'd continue in a lighter whisper towards those nearby.

"Additionally... I think there's a path through them heading to the lift. It looks like it might be intended to be overlooked... It's potentially worthwhile to check it out, either for any who might be hiding there, or as a safe path around a potential trap."

Robin Kirkko

egXhMPu.jpgRobin quirks an eyebrow. "Well there's definitely some necromancy around--some of those skeletons ought to get pretty vigorous. Not all of them. Four magical auras are out there. Any other casters see anything?"

Doallyn frowned as the conversation went back to Necromancy. They'd dealt with necromantic cultists the first go-round. Now the possibility of necromancy had started up again already.  He murmured a cantrip to himself and let the arcane sight wash over his eyes.  As the Detect Magic spell pierced his vision he quickly tried to scan over the areas in regard to the four auras that Robin mentioned.

The Wizard scanned over a minute or so at the auras that he could make out. The poor lighting down in the pit didn't help his ability to make things out.  It was completely blocking his ability to make out one of them. The others however... The Alarm spell covered the floor. Layered over the bones.  Trails of conjuration were present. They stood out to him the most.  Especially the fact that they matched the ones he had seen before in the tavern. The fire elemental that had roared up the lift's mechanism.  The last one was the necromancy spell that turned his stomach. It was set to rouse the bones into action when they set boots on the ground.

With his examination finished, Doallyn shares his discoveries and observations.

spacer.pngspacer.pngChira ponders this, "From the air, flying, perhaps this pattern I may see.  A floor sensor is unlikely for me to be noticed."  Without further ado, she leaps into the air, slowly circling the room as she flaps to keep control of her situation.

The Lights In The Dark

Chira takes to the air with a flutter after telling her companion to stay. It is not trouble at all to find herself airborne, and neither is the air off in any way she can perceive. As such, Chira finds herself able to scout the area surrounding the lift with genuine ease.

The lupine companion she bade to remain sits neatly right where Chira took off from, waiting like a good doggo.

Thus, the group sees her fly slowly and in a spiral that grows as the bat flies, until she vanishes into the shadows beyond the reach of your light radius. The sound of her wings is all that remains, except for the dragon who can still observe the airborne friend.

The Scout

Chira's flapping wings produce a soft noise in a steady manner. You hear her circling several laps before she presumably lands somewhere. There is a substantial absence of noises and a calm silence.

spacer.pngspacer.pngChira returns, flapping through the air, and lands effortlessly by the party.  "A pattern I do not recognize, another exit to the north there is.  That doorway suspiciously far away, it is.  Emphasizes, I think, that a trap this is."

The bat ponders a moment, "Perhas a distraction far away we could cause?"

"That's the direction the path is toward... Maybe its the way forward, or perhaps, where whoever is manning this mine field is lurking," the dragon replied, seeming to make up his mind as he gave another glance towards Doallyn, before resolving himself with a nod. "While the idea of incinerating all the undead about to be raised with flammable oil speaks to me, between the time to gather it, and the limited oils they may have in stock after the fire yesterday, I fear we'll be on our own. Never mind that I'd prefer to return the sacred bones of those interred here to their slumber as undamaged as possible. So, allow me to at least test this path I've spotted, if its a safe path you should be able to follow by stepping where I do. If not, I'm at least one of the sturdier of our number, and should be able to brave the animated monsters while we take them down."

The dragon stepped kept his wings close to his back, keeping his attention and defenses as prepared as he could, before taking one last breath and stepping off the lift. He moved slowly, cautiously along the path he had spotted, taking a step every other second as he waited to see if it prompted a reaction or not...

Doallyn still did not like this approach. However he didnt have the spells to remove the problem completely in one easy casting.  They were in a city full of restaurants and other stores. Oil was not limited to the Yawning Pit above. It was more a limit to the time they wanted to invest. The need to rush headlong into danger so haphazard seemed a poor choice. There was no countdown clock they were racing against.  However trying to investigating down here alone was an even less safe option. Though he had recently found two new mages up above.  If he survived the trek down here this time, maybe he'd consider other possibilities.  "If he survived".   He gritted his teeth as Kald took the first draconic step off the platform and readied himself.
