Brandisher.png.4abccf9766ad79862caaa7976666ebfe.pngThe bandits are closing in, and Brandisher quickly finds himself closer to surrounded than he'd like.

A pained yelp escapes him as one of his foes finds an opening to slash at his flank.

He steps to one side to improve his position slightly, then lunges again with his sword.

Show OOC

5 ft. step, then another attack with Bless

EDIT: Hot damn, a critical and maximum damage! That'll be 32 damage total!

Finding himself face to face with one of the guardsmen, Julien gives out an exasperated huff after his most excellent spell has no effect whatsoever, "Well fine, if you want to be that way about it we'll do this old school." MolgrugConcealed within the mist, Molgrug pauses to hear if any of the soldiers are approaching. From the sounds of things, they are taking a good beating from the other fiends. Given this, Molgrug is sure that his allies-of-circumstance don't really need his help but, not wanting to shun his responsibility to the group, he decides that the best way he can contribute is via a little moral support.

"Never fear, friends - we may, um, well, it's no secret that we are hardly at our best after the... um... incident with the gate, but even so, a few puny mortals can hardly challenge our might!" He calls loudly, to whoever happens to be nearby. "Of course I shall have to recalibrate the weather spell for next time... if I'd had my spellbook and scrolls then perhaps... well, anyway, keep hitting them! Don't worry, I won't kill all of them, everyone can have some fun too!"

Briefly, he wonders if he should make some fighting noises, as though he's clawing a few of the soldiers up in the mists. Such amateur dramatics are perhaps a step too far, however, and he instead restrains himself simply to moving cautiously around in the mist so that none of the assailants can locate him.

Actions

Um... take Total Defence?

Also 5ft step in a random direction.

DESCRIPTION Kaida was once a powerful and beautiful creature. She had sweeping wings, full and strong, and glorious horns! Her body was a powerful killing machine through which poisonous toxins flowed to strike down her enemies with. Her body had been strong and hardy, capable of going toe to toe with devils of much higher ranks than she.

Now she is but a pale echo of what she once was.

She was never a hulking creature and that is still true. Not even reaching two feet in height she is as tiny as ever. Her wings are small, much less muscle supporting their frame, and her tail, as long and sinuous as ever, was tipped by a stinger that was coated in what should have been a vibrantly colored sap-like toxin. Instead it was dull, and watery, quite weak indeed.

Her choice of color is always black and gray when given the option. Sometimes she'll stray from the more "bland" colors to exceedingly dark blues and purples but she does so very rarely. Clothing with folds and hidden pouches or pockets for concealed weapons are always of interest to her and she is rarely without a hooded vest.

If you move at least 10' during your turn you gain concealment against all melee and ranged attacks until the start of your next turn as well as the standard benefits of concealment. This cannot be used to hide in any form, you still need some other terrain feature that would normally allow you to use the Hide skill.

Kaida moves forward in order to stab her opponent with the tiny makeshift dagger in hand. * Hah...* The tiny blade she's wielding manages to slip between the warriors boot lining and sing deeply into his left ankle before she wrenches it free once again. Despite the success of her strike with the blade she misses with her intended tail strike.

OoC

Oops... belatedly realized I'd have to move into the same square for the dagger attack as a tiny creature. Went ahead and rolled for it. Normally moving and threating is a DC 15 but I think she actually needs to make a DC 25 for moving into the same square as an enemy... which she failed. So, I'll chalk it up to a learning experience and not do that again, heh. Her opponent gets an AoO against her.

Creed's continues to have trouble connecting with his opponent, his claws scraping along the chain mail to no effect.

Branisher shows him how it's done and cuts one of the men in half with a mighty swing

Kerapsis would have had another scalp to his belt if it wasn't for the mist, he leaves the wounded man hanging by a thread.

Julian also connects, wounding the poor guard who is now completely surrounded.

Molgrug slinks a bit westward.

Kaida finishes off the surrounded guard.

With the guard behind him taken out, one of the bandits moves to take advantage of some flanking and snips the thread the aforementioned man was hanging by. The two very badly wounded bandits retreat into the mist, whilst the last one, emboldened by the turning fortune, runs out to one of the bowmen, though his strike misses.

----

The surprised guard drops his bow, pulls out his sword, and fells the bandit, taking the opportunity to retreat a bit because things aren't sounding great in the fog.

The last guard left in the mist lashes out at Creed, and misses. The other two with bows shoot wildly in Brandisher's direction..and also miss. They retreat east a bit.

@Enkhoffer in 3.5 you do not auto crit, your 20 is a "threat" and needs another hit to confirm the crit. Doesn't matter in this case because even without a crit you killed him. Also, you appear to be attacking an ally (I shifted you back so this doesn't happen)

FOR EVERYONE: You bandit friends are in grey mail with big black beards. The bad guys are the golden ones.

Also, watch out for +2 flanking opportunities.

The soldier falls in place, the torn open leg wound too much for his body, and Kaida grins and steps up onto it for a moment with a quick jig. Being right near the edge and seeing Julien venture out of the mist the imp decides to follow suit, taking the melee to the archers that have been launching arrows at them. She bounds forward, leaping from the corpse of the soldier into the clear air and through the vegetation towards the closest enemy ahead of her. * Another one within reach...* Her stinger darted forward but failed to connect with the soldier as they leaned back and to the side, avoiding the wicked looking stinger easily.

Even through the spray of blood from the downed form of his most recent victim he jumps sprightly towards the next until he stands shoulder to shoulder with Kerapsis - not even at this time considering cutting down the demon, as he would much rather run his sword through another mewling mortal.

Julian runs out of Molgrug's mist and fires off another colour spray. One of the men is unaffected the other collapses (saves in Coreal's post, collpased guy has black icon attached on roll 20)

Kaida leaps out to attack as well, her sting rattling off the armor of the guard knocked out by the colour spray.

Creed grabs a hold of the last hapless guard left in the mist, all he lets out is a strangled gurgle.

It's hard to say what is more or less terrifying for the town guards, the sounds of their colleagues getting ripped apart in the mist, or the successively more hideous fiends that emerge from it, including the dog and vulture show that rushes forward and together takes down another.

There's only one guard left, and he does the sensible thing, disengaging and running east as fast as he can.

The 4 remaining bandits (including Grimley) are badly wounded, but look on the carnage with what appears to be grim satisfaction.

They be beatin' on us fer years

Explains Grimley

Nice ta see tha tables turned.

As before anyone with speed > 30 can take him down if they want. Regardless...

Combat Over.

You have one color sprayed unconscious guard, and one pinned by Creed.

Brandisher.png.4abccf9766ad79862caaa7976666ebfe.pngBrandisher's canine tongue wipes his muzzle free of blood, panting at the end of the battle - short as it was, but fierce.

His exaltation over their swift victory only lasts for a short while however, as he remembers their "guide" wounded on the ground.

His black head swivels around to land two fiery eyes on the one called Grimley, and he stomps over to the bandit with drips of claret trailing from his sword.

"This craven little blotfly led us into an ambush!"

MolgrugMolgrug emerges from the now-dissipating mist and looks around at the carnage with satisfaction.

"Well, um, good job, everyone," he says. "Our first skirmish since arriving here! Well, second, I suppose, if you count the bandits, but should they count? They didn't really... well, let's just say that their attempts were lacking. Perhaps we should agree some criteria as to what counts as a skirmish and what doesn't count? Perhaps the bandits should simply have qualified as an "altercation", whereas this, potentially, just perhaps, might reach the status of "mêlée"? Yes, I think I can create a brief classification system... um..."

He searches for a pen and parchment to jot his ideas down upon but is once again dismayed to realise that he has none.

"Well, er, at any rate... good work, everyone! Everyone did fabulously, everyone contributed," he continues. "Especially you there, Big Guy. I'll definitely be nominating you for a performance award when we get back, don't you worry!"
