It might look strange, but it if worked better, Vri couldn't care less about looking strange. She followed T'Sarra just as carefully and kept looking around.

Barhuce thinks for a minute, watching the passageways leading to the room they are in before relaxing. "I'm guessing the sadistic little freaks are going to be back, but probably not for a little while. They likely want to keep their get out of combat free card handy. Assuming we need to go into one of these doors, they'll likely catch us on our way back sometime. Sometime when we look weak to them." He moves into the room and starts looking around.

Black Hill Caves — Gremlin Caves

With a closer look at the cavern with the junk pile, you see that multiple passages converge here from the surrounding cave system.

 

spacer.pngVal gets closer to examine the smooth wall with the round portal, and nods, "Yes it looks like it's made of glaucite."

 

"But how could that be here?" Val mused out loud, not really asking anyone in specific, "And why wouldn't anyone have known about this for all this time?"

 

T'Sarra Only

That round portal looks like it is tightly shut.

Barhuce Only

The small cave adjoining the junk-filled cavern to its south looks to be riddled with yet another tangle of tripwire.

T'Sarra tried to open the door and failed (presumably?)

She moved back with Barhuce,"Seems the safest way to disarm them. And might be kind of fun too. Plus added benefit of maybe hitting one of them if they're lurking trying to come back. Here!" T'Sarra tossed some rubble towards a trip wire, giggling until she managed to set it off.

After she shook her head.

"Guess there's not much here and if the door won't open, I guess we should head back to the skulks and report our progress. See if they are ready to pony up a reward? Just to be clear though, we don't trust them, yeah? Odds are they killed Parda, might have attacked Khonnir too. Let's try to not get too cozy with 'em."

Unless anything else held them here she'd walk, retracing their steps down the path they took to get here, back to the skulk cave, then toss the body of the dead gremlin at the chief's feet.

Vri had a closer look at the door, trying to find a way to open the thing.

"I think we best try to find the others before we go back to those guys," she said when T'Sarra wanted to go back, "They have to be around here somewhere, right?"

Black Hill Caves — Gremlin Caves

The circular portal in the glaucite wall is tightly closed, and cannot be opened easily.

 

Taking after Barhuce's suggestion, it takes T'Sarra a couple of tries, but the second time she tosses a piece of junk at the tripwires, it springs the trap and a row of jagged metal spikes shoot out harmlessly against the cave wall.

 

spacer.png"I'd rather not wait around if it's all the same," Val piped up after hearing two differing suggestions, "We still don't know where dad is…"

 

spacer.png"I know you're concerned about your father Val, who wouldn't be?" Rain moved to place a comforting hand on Val's shoulder, "But we'll eventually have to rest as well."

"Yeah, point taken Val. No point in putting this off then. Let's watch our backs, though. Never really know who is listening or watching. " Before leaving, T'Sarra took the wand back from Rain and tapped herself with it, healing up. Then T'Sarra walked, down the ways they hadn't been to the South East and North West looking for traps. Even if they'd all gone, they might still have active traps.
 

Mechanics
 

T'Sarra should be back full after using another charge on the wand. She takes it back from Rain (or did I even hand it over?)

Vri followed T'Sarra and also looked into the small corridor for more traps. She had taken some rocks or debris with her to throw at the trap wires if needed.

Black Hill Caves — Gremlin Caves

Having taken the time to check the surrounding cave features and corridors, your group finds no sign of any additional gremlins or any other traps they might've left behind. For better or worse, it seems those malicious little creatures might actually be gone… at least for now.

 

As you make your way back toward the skulks' lair, Val looks particularly contemplative, her brows all furrowed up as she trudges quietly along with the rest.

"We'll find him. I know you're worried, I am too, but he's a smart resourceful old man. We'll find him," she put an arm around Val as they walked, assuming she looked morose because of her worry for Khonnir.

There wasn't much else to do about it now. No point in even trying to open the door until they went back to Sef and the skulks. She did and tossed the gremlin corpse at the skulk leader's feet.

"Tell her we got rid of the gremlins for them. Killed some, drove the rest off. We did our part, now their turn. We want a reward of course, but also see what they know about the big doors in gremlin town. I notice they have same ones here. Do they know how to get through them? What's on the other side?" T'Sarra spoke to Vri, not speaking the same language as the skulks.

"They might actually have gone inside," Vri said as they moved back to the Skulks, "I'm not sure how the spell works or what's behind the doors. Well, little we can do about it now."

At the Skulk camp, Vri translated what T'Sarra had said, cleaning it up a bit. T'Sarra could be a bit direct at times and it might be better to use a more circumspect and diplomatic style. And truth to be told, she was also quite curious about those doors.

Barhuce gives it a bit of thought. "I don't think they need line of sight, so they could well have gone beyond those doors to where we would have a hard time following. If so, that makes it important for the Skulks too; getting us past the doors that is. Unless we can follow, we can't be sure the gremlins won't just come back angry."

Black Hill Caves — Junkyard Cave

Although Vri's initial assertion that the skulk chieftain has gone inside her hut, it doesn't take long for her to reappear to the sound of your group's chatter.

Gremlin caves

After a little more conversation (summarized in discord chat to avoid our illustrious GM having to translate more!) T'Sarra was convinced it was time to move on.

"Shall we try letting Val and her picks at the Gremlin door? See if we can follow this purple haired woman, whoever that it? Any of you know a purple haired woman in Torch?"

There had been some talk of going topside to rest but she didn't see the point, especially with Val looking morose about Khonnir. She had all her spells for the day left and there were plenty more charges in the wand.
