Black Hill Caves — Gremlin Caves / Skulk Lair

Beep, Bip, Boop, Baleewaleeiee... The panel sounded several seemingly random sounds in response to Vri's tapping at the various lighted shapes, which responded to the touch each with a brief change of colour, but otherwise there seemed little other sign of any useful development.

 

Given to the idea of trying the other door, T'Sarra begins to lead the group through the low-ceilinged cave passages once again.

 

spacer.png"I think these may be some kind of keys," Val conjectured as she walked, hunching over while following the tiefling in the lead, still absorbed in checking over the card-like things as she compared two in her hands. "Look. I'm guessing they probably didn't work because they were all the same. But maybe they'll work somewhere else?"

 

 

spacer.pngContinuing to imitate the sounds from the panel, Violet walks behind Val as she beeps and boops some kinda weird.

 

Coming back to the large cave inhabited by the skulks, T'Sarra notes that a smooth wall of dark gray metal, quite identical to that in the gremlin caves bisects the far side of the cavern here, its expanse pitted and scorched but quite solid looking. A strange, circular opening pierces the wall five feet off the ground, allowing access to some sort of hallway on the other side.

Barhuce looks the open door ahead of them. "How did we miss that this was wide open? Nevermind, doesn't matter. We are going to probably want to head back soonish unless we want to hold our breath on the swim out. Should we poke our heads in and do a quick look first?"

He watches T'sarra fail to climb and adds "Right, taking a peek it is." He makes his own attempt to climb

Black Hill Caves — Skulk Lair / Rubble-Choked Hall

spacer.png"If you say so Val," Rain commented, replying idly to Val's assertion. "They all just look like weird playing cards to me."


"Anyway, what do you gather purple-haired lady wants down here?" The shaman mused, "Doesn't look quite like the kind of place for a birthday party, does it…"

 

spacer.pngAs though a child with a newfound obsession, Violet continues to beep and boop some weird as she follows along Val's side.

 

Barhuce Only

Climbing up the smooth gray metallic wall and through the circular portal, you come to a narrow, slightly curved hallway. The walls, floor and ceiling here are made of smooth dark gray metal. Panels of lighter material run along the ceiling eight feet above. To the north and south the tunnel is blocked by walls of metal junk and rubble, while open doorways yawn to the east and west.

 

Through the doorway to the east is a short hallway with a pile of metal scrap near the middle of the floor, beyond that still there looks to be even more rooms of similar design, all of it dark and unlit.

Black Hill Caves — Rubble-Choked Hall

spacer.png"Very funny Barhuce." Val rolled her eyes as she looked up, then stabbed the alchemist back with a dry comeback of her own, "Maybe now you can deign to have my rug repaired, eh Your Majesty?"

spacer.png"Whoa," Peering in with the rest, Rain stopped in her tracks as she rounds up the last of the group, "Speaking of weird…"

 

Vri Only

That wreck in the next room looks mighty familiar, it's as though you've seen something exactly like it before… in Khonnir and Val's residence. Except that last one came to life and attacked the lot of you yesterday.

"Watch out," Vri said, holding the others back and making sure her weapon was ready and pointing it towards the wreck, "that looks just like the thing we had at Val's place yesterday. That suddenly came to life and tried to attack us."

Wrecked Robot

"Huh," She cringed as Barhuce scrambled up before her. His 'kind of the castle' line almost made her want to pull him down when he went to help her up, but she was sensitive enough about her own inept attempt at climbing so just accepted the hand up.

"Thank you, Your Highness," She curtsied for the alchemist, giggled a little and then moved up to where Vri was issuing a warning.

"You think this is where Khonnir got it? I don't trust the damned thing, last one fixed itself from scrap, didn't it? I recall smashing it into little tiny bits. Kind of tempted to do the same to this one but don't want to make too much noise."

Still she moved in and next to it, then nudged it experimentally with her spear.

As T'Sarra moves up into the short hallway and begins molesting the pile of wreck, the pile suddenly rises, pushing its metallic bulk off the grey metal floor with its three spider-like legs. One blazing eye at the centre of its head comes to life, as the vaguely humanoid torso and arms begins to move, twisting so its eye points directly at its abuser.

He moves forward and takes a swing with his mace. "Also, if you all would stay back for a bit, I could bomb the damn thing."

Combat — Round 1 (Wrap Up)

Initiative Order

As though by instinct, Rain mumbled the strange syllables and touched Barhuce on the shoulder, imbuing him with divine guidance. "ህየሀካሃኡሣኪ"

 

Violet raised her blunderbuss to the half-elf's words of warning, and with a loud bang she fired off a shot that hit the automaton in its pelvic section, though it didn't seem to have done a significant amount of visible harm.

 

Vri follows with a powerful stab at what passed for the metallic creature's head, managing to stab through some kind of seam between one metal feature and another, setting up the flank for T'Sarra to advance to the robot's other side.

 

The tiefling took advantage of the opening and ripped her claws into the same spot, tearing opening the metallic plating and shredding some wires underneath, causing some sparks to fly out of the severed ends.

 

Barhuce lashes out with his mace, but unfortunately only hit a whiff of air as the robot shifted away from his swing.

 

Behind the rest of the party and out of their immediate sight, Val swiftly mixed an extract and threw it back, quickly hiding the evidence before shuffling forwards to join the others with her rapier in hand.

 

Retreating back slightly to T'Sarra's side, the robot's hands come to life, proving to be surprisingly nimble as it begins to reattach its wires and adjust its housing.
