The very large lion lets out a loud roar before bursting into action. Charging right at the creature, she pounces going for a quick kill, or at least dealing some decent damage.

Her earth elemental continues to slam the creature.

Between the two of them, they bring down the behir, the Kyzza seemed pretty grateful to not be lunch and although bloody he is still alive. The other Kyzza fuss over him and lick his wounds, Nemyl channels some healing magic into the beast which knits some of the wounds.

Looking at the beast she says "I wonder where its nest is"? She asks the party "anyone got a flying familiar"?

Circling the area the familiar is not too certain of what it is looking for, an old building looks to be the only place that a nest could be. The bird flies around the building and at the back is something that might pass as a nest, some twigs and rags seem to be arranged in a circle. Two dead bodies lie close by, Onyx heads back to his master and relates the information.

 

Heading over the dune the party can see what was once a small house with outbuildings, on the floor around the back of the structure are two partly eaten humans. Looking them over reveals a male and female both with belt pouches, the male has a shortsword still in it's scabbard. The female has pearl earrings and a wedding ring made from gold, she has a dagger in a jewelled scabbard. In the nest is only a few old bones and two rings, one with a pearl and one with an emerald.

"Allow me a moment to examine the scene. Do not touch anything, in case a curse lies upon them," he told the others, walking around the ruined house and taking a closer look at each item.

OOC: Williorn casts detect magic. He then checks out each item for any magical auras, rolling Spellcraft for each one. The DM listed a shortsword, earrings, a wedding ring, a dagger, the scabbard, and two more rings. So, that will be 7 checks in total, assuming they are all magical.

Sadly nothing is magical, the sword and dagger are both made from Cold Iron and are in excellent condition.

The party move off and leave the dead creature to the scavengers, they press on until Nemyl says "when the sun sets here it seems to drop out the sky very quickly, Willorn can you get the familiar to head up to see if there is anything to use as a camp site"?

Henry pulls a small rag from his pocket to cover his mouth and nose while he helps Williorn examine the bodies. "By the looks of the levels of decomposition and consumption, I doubt we had much of a chance of getting here in time to help..."

 

He kneels next to the corpses and pulls a blanket from his pack, unfolding it and gently draping it over them. "Not much we can do for you... But maybe we can bring some closure to your families...." He carefully inspects their possessions for any indication of their identity, before gathering it all in a bundle and securing it in the cart.

 

"They may have known something about this place that we don't..." He pulls the weapons from the rest of the pile and lays them neatly on the seat. "Magic or not, these could be useful if we find ourselves facing off against anything particularly... sensitive... to this alloy. Best to leave them readily accessible."

Austin-Dire Lion Form

As the elemental shifts itself back into the sand, Austin continues on in her lion form. As they come upon the corpses, she shakes her head at the waste. Her eyes sparkle however upon seeing the shinies.

 

She continues to use her senses and enhanced abilities as the move on from the wreckage.

Nemyl continued for the rest of the day then they find a stone hollow that must have been the base of a tower a long time ago, they set watches and begin to think about sleep when the wind picks up. A storm arrives with a ferocity that no one could have predicted, an earth elemental appears and he looks like he is going to attack but he dives back into the storm.

After dark has set in the storm dissipates and everything looks calm once more, morning comes and as you are about to get back onto the road you notice dead bodies everywhere. They are of mixed race, there are also a few monsters such as ogres.

Austin walks around the bodies, occasionally inspecting a few to make sure they are dead.

"Hmm. I happen to know a guy who would love this. He'd probably say something along the lines of "food for a month!" or something crazy like that. Disgusting if you ask me, but to each their own. I got nothing here. Anyone else?"

Henry mills about among the bodies, carefully trying to calculate any connections they may have had with each other. "I don't know what worse, Austin, this mess... or that... revelation."

 

He pulls a long metal probe from his kit and uses it to start flipping bits of clothing aside while he examines one of the ogre corpses. "You're well acquainted with elementals of the earthen variety. Any insights about last nights visitor. Could it have done this? Or do you suppose it was just the delivery boy?"
