That hit was all Fiametta needed to know in order to measure the situation. Random thugs were one thing, the dottari were another. She pushes off the dottari and runs as fast as she can, but not before making an obscene gesture at Barzillai, or at least his general direction. "Figlio di puttana mangiatore di merda! Marcire All 'inferno!"

Aria Park

Fiametta and Saria both grasped onto the same idea and fled the crowd. Looking for the best way around the water it was clear that the eastern edge of the park had fewer active fights and was the safer option. Saria could hear as the stranger who had come to her rescue bought her some more time to run. John's sword arm was still keen, cleanly striking into the dottari. The man now had a large gash on his leg, pouring blood. But still he seemed more than eager to continue the fight.

Over by Lilette and Alexis a far different scene was playing out. Alexis was attempting repeatedly to strike the man engaged in the fight with Lilette, while missing horribly. Lilette had joined in on that, exhaustion starting to slow her reactions. She tried to dart around the man, coming up short as she stumbled to avoid the mace swinging down an inch from her face.

Gellius saw the chaos unfolding and tried the strategy that had often worked to get him out of tough situations. But unfortunately, as the blood pooled on the ground threatening to stain his shoes, his words went unheeded.


Whether the guard had been attempting to follow Fiametta or had stepped forward to attack Gellius is unknown. It is also immaterial. Gellius's rapier darted out piercing the arm of the guard. This certainly drew the attention of the guard as he targetted Gellius.
He tried to return the favor, aiming at the wrist joint on Gellius's fencing hand. But a rapier is much faster than a mace and it took little work to evade.

John similarly evaded the mace from the guard fighting him. The mother behind him had managed to help her son break free from the man trying to hand him over to the guards, assisted by two others who having been trying to taunt a guard into attacking them. Having no luck getting him to split from his buddy they had gone for the next closest target.

The comedy of errors near the fountain continued as Lilette managed to duck under yet another swing.

The crowd was growing thinner, the guards slowly advancing and grabbing those who had fallen or been injured. They still did push forward but seemed satisfied to let those who got out of the park itself alone. After all, someone needed to spread the word.

"Leileh! Waungh!" Watching her friend starting to slip up from the exhaustion of dodging hit after hit, and the dottari getting ever closer as they brutalize one protest after the next, Alexis could only try her best to verbalize to her friend her want to retreat and extricate themselves from this nightmare.

 

Hoping she had understood, the deaf girl started to withdraw from the chaos, deeking between the movement of people and around the edge of a bush toward the east.

Saria decided that enough was enough, so she kept moving back and away from the guards. She did however stop at some point to help the guy who helped her, and threw a magic missile at the guard he was fighting.

With the spellcasting stranger at his back smartly retreating from this rapidly escalating debacle, John quickly weighs his options.

"Get him, guys!" he points with his mace at his opponent, hoping the momentary distraction will be enough to allow him cleanly make his escape.

Seeing his opportunity, he speeds away, chasing after the rapidly retreating spellcaster ally.

Aria Park

Gellius encouraged the dottari to focus on him as he watched first Alexis and then the person she had seemed concerned about, break away from the scuffle heading east along with many of the remaining protesters. The dottari, enraged was swinging wildly back, a trait that only made the crazed blows easier to sidestep.

He saw the man who had engaged the other dottari break away, the guard somehow down on one knee struggling to stand. It was probably a good opportunity to flee before the thinning crowd encouraged to much attention on him.

John saw the bolt of force strike the guard in front of him, a parting gift from the woman he had been defending. With the blow from the spell and the besieging crowd he was able to make a clean escape leaving the fighting for the more hot headed in the protest.
 

Everyone Except Alexis

As everyone fled the park the sounds of the protest turned sour died down. In the larger streets there were people frantically searching for loved ones they had been seperated from or trying to patch up wounds gained from both confrontations and the panic of the frantic crowd. One of the many alleyways that weave through the city presents itself as a good place to stop running and assess the situation. It is quiet now, the only sounds remaining those of your breath and those of the ones who fled in the same direction.

Alexis

The amount of visual information you have had to process in the last handful of minutes has been nearly overwhelming. But soon the crowds lessen, instead filled with what appear to be people searching for others and occasionally reuniting. Some are assisting in patching up wounds and the sharp smell of blood is far more present than it should be on a typical day. One of the many alleyways that form the capillaries of the city presents itself as a good place to stop running and assess the situation. A handful of others seem to have had the same idea.

 

Kintargo Alleyway

The alleyway is one of the broader ones, likely used to stock the workshops that border it during the early hours of the morning. The stone walls that make up its sides are cool to the touch even this late in the day as little light reaches here with the network of laundry lines hanging above the alley, absorbing what they can in an attempt to dry and sunbleach the clothing.

Lilette leaned against the wall panting. She waited until Alexis looked at her and then signed a quick message Again, I told you I would be fine., a smirk crossing her face. She then looked at the others, focusing on Gellius. "I don't know you but... thanks for buying us some time."

Alexis ran as fast as she could, occasionally checking behind her to make sure that Lilette was keeping up. A couple of times she almost bumped into someone along the way, once losing her balance and twisting her ankle on a pebble. It was all very overwhelming, and not in the kind of way that she would've liked, not one bit. But the deaf girl kept running, despite her fear, and the smell of blood, and her breath almost getting knocked out of her.

 

When she and Lilette finally ducked into an alley, she stopped short of almost running over another of the escaped protesters and turned, her breath shaking as she planted her rear against the wall behind her. Looking at her friend, her hands immediately came alive, "✌️☝️🤙 👏👌🙌 👌👊✌️👏 ✌️☝️🤙 👏👌🙌 🖐🙌☝️👋Are you okay? Are you hurt?"

Saria was worried about what would happen now. Not immediately, although as soon as those thugs had cleaned up the square, they might come looking for others around here, so they best didn't stay here for too long. When John of Patmos also arrived in the alley, she looked at him.

"John," he replies, then pauses, as if he had something else to say but stopped himself short.

With a gruff, sardonic chuckle, he adds, "I was about to say 'it's a pleasure to meet you', just out of habit, but it's hard to think of less pleasant circumstances to make a new friend." He laughs darkly at his own terrible humor.

"Are you hurt?". He looks around, taking a quick visual survey of the protesters gathering in the alley. Raising his voice, he calls out, "Is anyone injured?"

John will quickly treat anyone injured, using Stabilize, Heal, and Blessed Surgery as needed. He'll use his CLW scrolls if anyone looks like they're going to die without intervention.

Lilette hurried to translate for Alexis. She quickly signedThat's Saria. He's John, he wants to know if you are injured. And the fancy one is Gellius. He says you are his favorite smith.

And I said I was fine. Stop fussing!
introductions for each of the individuals who had introduced themselves. Then she spoke, making sure to sign as she did so that Alexis could participate in the conversation. She also took care to translate anything Alexis said. "I'm Lilette, and this is Alexis. Does anyone have an idea what happened back there?"

"The Lord Mayor," he angrily spits out that last word, "had no interest in our complaints or grievances."

"He just sent us a message," he continues from injured person to injured person, treating their wounds. "To sit down, shut up, and do as we're told. Or be crushed beneath the Dottari's hobnailed jackboots."

He reaches Fiametta and frowns at her wound. "If I had known it was going to be this violent, I would've brought a healers kit. So much blood ..."

Saria nodded at the others, noticing that one of the girls wasn't speaking and they were making hand movements to each other. Well, something for persue another time. She also noticed that John could throw healing magic, which she filed under 'good to know'.

"Not wounded," she said, "I got lucky that way. But we best not stay here too long. As soon as those guards are done beating the crowd, they're bound to come looking for others who were at the protest. We best retreat to some other location further away before they do so."

As she actively used a mindful breathing technique to calm herself, she watched the small clutch of people here, their mannerisms, their conversations, and the translations for whatever parts she may have missed from Lilette. In particular she paid some attention to the other healer, this John. For once she was glad that someone else was skilled in the curative domains, and... It seems he is competent enough at least, insomuch as he is managing well enough on his own and did not require her assistance at the moment...

 

Snapping her attention back to her friend, she nodded to the blonde with an acknowledgement, "Yeunh."
