Drewan definitely felt like it was time to go, they were not getting any more details here and it was just waiting for them on the island to figure out. "With your leave we will be heading to the island now, and hopefuly learn more details there. Will i need my mount on the island or is everything pretty close together?"

Deianara entered the room as the others began wrapping up. "I'm Deianara, a straggler. The sergeant told me to meet you all here." If Deianara was cold, she didn't show it. Still, she gladly accepted the Eastern Sunset when offered.

Deianara asked for a rundown of what she's missed, and patiently listened as the details of the mission are explained to her. She scratched her head, as many of the details seem vague or unclear. Planning isn't really her forte, so once the explanation was completed, she indicated she was ready to go.

 spacer.pngArgent saw their hosts were already overwhelmed with questions and decided not to press for information any further. It sounded like, whatever was the normal situation on the island, things were not that way now and whatever details the Captain may have would most likely be outdated anyway. The purpose of their expedition was to find out what was going on. If the Dr and his staff already knew everything there would be no point to hiring the group.

He nodded in welcome to Deianara when she entered and realised he had neglected to introduce himself when the others had done so earlier.

"My name is Argent. As for what I am, your first guess is probably correct. I have some small talent in magic, some inborn gifts at healing and I'm not bad in a fight either. I look forward to working with you all." With that he accepted the extra offered warming drinks gratefully and moved towards the door, indicating he was ready to go.

With everyone ready the party is led out to the dock where a small ship is waiting for them, they board the ship and are told that the dock on the island has a lift they will need to use to get to the asylum. The trip takes the rest of the day and the asylum comes into view at dusk, you are told that you will be ferried across in the morning and a cabin has been arranged for the night. Amyly informs the party that there should be food over there but just in case she has a handy haversack with some of the tea and food supplies, the party get a good night's rest as the ship's crew stands watch. They reported that they neither saw nor heard anything from the asylum, a landing craft is lowered into the water for the party to cross over to the island, and once there a cage with no ropes sits on the quayside "it works using magic to send us up to the next level" she says as she gets in.

 

Assuming everyone takes the lift.

Arriving outside the doors the party can see two dead guards (still in uniform) and a third splatter of blood, the doors are closed.

A heal skill roll will tell you more about the dead guards.

Strunthal wakes in the morning and quietly sits through the boat ride and the lift. Seeing the dead guards just lying there worries him that whoever has taken over does not care enough to try to hide it. He cautiously moves to the door and takes a few minutes to check it over for surprises.

Finn glances at bodies but not being trained in any medical sciences leaves closer examination to others just remarking "That leaves 73 persons unaccounted for." Pointedly not remarking on the blood smear without the body. More by habit than actual thought he casts Detect Magic on both bodies and smear and on doors itself standing a bit behind Stormbeard and slowly draws his sword. For a second lighting it up with arcane light like he's testing if everything works as it should, then letting it die down.

Devon wakes up refreshed in the morning, and travels with the others across the water and up the lift. At the top he takes in the scene with a look that is somewhat sad, somewhat troubled. Looking over the bodies for identifying marks or items, he pulls out some paper and begins to take notes. He notes the appearance of the victims as well as the location and position they were found in. This may be needed for the report given after the mission is complete.
Looking around he sees only one obvious path forward. With Strunthal not finding any locks or traps it should be safe to continue. "If you ready yourselves for possible enemies, I can open the door, just in case."

"There is no magic aura at least here, so I think we could proceed. And I'm as ready as I can be." Finn glances back to check does anyone stopped to check bodies. He figured that, due to lack of magic, likely died by some sort of blades but he was more interested in what could be found in their pockets. At least an outdated missive or message would be better than nothing.

The sight of the dead bodies didn't surprise Deianara. She had expected the worst after the explanation given to them the previous day. She only thought the guards were killed to prevent news from reaching the main town.

As Finn finishes detecting for magic, Deianara moves over toward the bodies. She searches for anything that could be useful for the mission or give them information about the state of the Asylum.

I appreciate your willingness there Devon, but as a wizard, it might be best if you were not one of the ones in the front of the group? Yourself and Amyly should probably stay in the middle of the group. Argent I think would be best bringing up the rear, maybe with Drewan and Deianara right behind myself and this tall dark person, sorry did not catch your name, can take the front.

He motions to Finn as he describes the tall and dark person. (Finn never introduced himself. 😉)

He will pause and see if the others agree. (I only suggest Argent in the back because he is a large creature and if we are in a hallway he is going to be either squeezing and at a disadvantage and the only one of us who can either attack or be attacked.)

Drewan shrugs his shoulders when the order they moved was discussed. At the sight of the bodies he moves forward to look them over. While he had no medical training he had seen a few dead bodies in his time. "It does not matter to me where I am at, as long as I have space to use my bow then that is where I am best placed." saying that he moves away from the bodies and pulls his bow ready to move on if there was nothing further to learn from the bodies.

spacer.pngArgent awoke with the dawn, took in the sea breeze from the deck and followed Amyly and the others onto the island. He marveled at the magical elevator as he had never seen such a thing before but only for a moment as he did not want to slow everyone up or get left behind.

Upon reaching the top the unicorn was saddened to see death as their first welcome to the island but it was to be expected. They had not been called in from the Tavern for sightseeing after all.

"I hoped there was some misunderstanding here, that contact had been lost due to technical malfunction or something. But there is no mistaking this." He murmured, half to himself.

Argent inspected the bodies, looking for signs of how they died, whether by claws or weapons, and how long they have been dead for.

I'm happy to bring up the rear but in case it matters, despite his equine shape Argent is actually Medium size, at least for now. The unicorn RLA progression doesn't get Large size until level 4 which he hasn't hit yet.

"I am fine with anything as long as I'm near the front." Deianara was better in melee, but had the capability to support from range. She felt it necessary for melee specialists to be near the frontline, but understood the benefits of having someone to protect those in the back.

Deianara continued to search for items of interest as the others began to conduct their own investigations of the bodies.
