Devon looks at Strunthal in mild confusion. He then looks at the door again. "I had planned on hiding behind the door, but of course that depends on whether the door opens inwards or outwards. If the door opens inwards, then of course you would be correct." He then examines the door more closely to determine which way it swings.


OOC:

No need to wait on a response. If the door opens outwards, he will open the door and hide behind it. If inwards, then he goes ahead with Strunthal's plan.

His curiosity satisfied Finn follows the Dwarfs sign, falls in line, and nearly absent-mindedly comments on the door placement "In prisons door usually open inwards so inmates can't just burst the gate outwards in the case of riot." He shrugs "But in forts, it is the other way around for the same reason and this supposedly was the fort before so who knows." He keeps his attention on the walls, in case someone decides to send them a surprise in the form of an arrow, bolt, or even well-thrown rock.

Drewan notes that there are paw-like prints around the bodies that head back inside the building, he can see that the doors do open into the building.

Fin can hear nothing peculiar outside the building, when the door is opened he can see more dead bodies.

 

Once the door is opened the party can see more dead guards, patients can also be found among the dead. Two doors east and west are open with dead found inside, they look like guard stations with a selection of tools/weapons. A pole with a retractable loop at one end is lying on the floor. Canine footprints can be seen all over the place, in the room to the east is a most bizarre sight. A dead dog that has no discernible head but does have a mouth of sharp teeth lies on the floor, it looks to have been battered to death.

Observing mayhem Finn casts Detect Magic on an odd dog-like creature "It somewhat too late occurs to me that we should've asked the good doctor about particulars of his experiments." He pokes the retractable device with his foot "Tool for controlling uncooperative prisoners?" Then Finn's eyes go over the guard post realizing something "Why they did not take weapons?"

Strunthal moves over to the "dogs" body and checks it out, nudging it with his axe.

Those tools can also be used on uncooperative animals. Although these things not having heads like other animals, makes them less useful on these things.

Anybody ever seen anything like this before? From the paw prints everywhere I am guessing that these are part of whatever attacked this place. Not looking forward to facing a pack of these things.

He moves over to the dead guards and searches their bodies.

They might have keys or something that will prove useful later.

He states that just in case anyone gives a disapproving look or statement to his actions.

"I think I would remember something like this but who knows." Finn pushes the corpse with his leg to get a better look. "As for the tool, yeah I doubt these things have enough neck to control. Should we bring it with us in case we want to catch a prisoner to interrogate?"

Devin enters the room and immediately focuses on the 'creature' in the floor. "Fascinating! I've never seen anything like this before, although some aspects seem familiar to me. I wonder..." Devin concludes that the dog-like creature was a dog, it has been warped by otherworldly powers.

While examining the create Devon begins to look very concerned. "Oh dear. I believe this actually is a dog, or was at one point. Maybe this Mezzina has been experimenting with otherworldly powers. If so, we may see many more creatures like this while we are here."
He continues with his mission notes, until the others are ready to continue on.

Drewan raises an eyebrow in question at the mention that this used to be a real dog . "If they could do this to a dog, could they do it to something a bit smarter like the prisoners? If so we may have our hands full if any of them are still alive. We best keep on the look out for those threats. We may also want to try and be a bit more stealthy as we move forward."

"Stealth is not a strength for me." Deianara wasn't used to doing reconnaissance. She had always been part of the vanguard. She felt recon was a necessary component for missions, but as something best suited for other people.

"We could have one or two people scout ahead to help us from being ambushed. I'm too loud, so I don't think I should be one of the people to do it."
