image.png.6309863b84e80b122f8ad8c59b8b6383.pngAmira leads the group back out through the Funery Gate under the watchful eye of Grindell, the huge Half-Orc guard. He once again gives Arwi a steel-eyed glare as he goes through the gate, but does not say anything. There are several Iuzian patrols around, though most of them are watching people coming in to Rookroost as opposed to leaving.

Amira explains that they will travel south to the small village of Artonsbruek on the Artonsamy River, take the ferry across, then travel south to Kinmeet, over a week to the south. Her plan is to move fast and not stop over in any of the towns or villages along the way, to make better time and to help keep Rindo safe.

The trip to the ferry should only take a few hours, though, and that is their first destination. Once the outer city of Rookroost is passed, she pauses the wagon and lets Rindo climb out of the very small and cramped hiding spot. He is happy to be out but keeps his hood pulled low over his face as often as possible. There is very little traffic on the road this day, for that everyone is thankful.

The road south is rugged and rocky. Amira's wagon bucks and bounces nearly the entire time. Someone has to stay out ahead of the oxen to make sure they do not step in any dangerous ruts or on any rocks. The danger of twisting an ankle to two and four legged travelers is great.

Sparse farms can be seen along the roadside, some with people out working the fields. Any time someone in a field spots the wagon and travelers, they immediately retreat to rugged little farmhouses nearby. The ground looks difficult enough to farm, and these people have to deal with bandits, monsters, and Iuzian patrols as well. It is a wonder anyone lives here at all, sometimes.

As the group crosses a low rise, Snowbelle, who happened to be up ahead leading the oxen, sees smoke drifting up from near a copse of trees, just to the left of the road.

Snowbelle cries out and raises a hand, signaling for the wagon to stop. She gestures to those nearby towards the smoke, and releases the reigns of the oxen, instead securing her stalwart spear and sturdy shield.

Kelarith slips down from his spot at the back of the wagon, where he has been keeping an eye on the company's trail, stretching and grumbling at Amira's ability to, "Hit every single bump and rut along the way, like some sort of teamster prodigy."

He shuffles stiffly to where the barbarian has called for a halt, "What do you think, travelers making camp early after a long day, or something more... exciting?"

Snowbelle nods toward the smoke on the horizon. "There. You see? Maybe nothing, but we should make sure. Ready to go?"

Snowbelle slowly begins making her way towards the fire, pausing to crouch on the ground and look for tracks that might lead to or from the scene.

He took a moment to peer at the horizon at the plume of smoke to see what the source could be.

A slowly turning wheel smoulders, trailing a thin wisp of smoke. Several bodies litter the ground around the wagon as well as two dead horses. No farmhouses or other buildings are visible any where around.

I'd heard word of increased attacks on traders to the south, but I assumed they meant on the other side of the Artonsamy, not this close to Rookroost. But still, there may be some wounded, or left behind goods...." she trails off, thinking.

She continues leading the wagon along the rutted path, slowly, until it is even with the ambush scene. She nods toward the wagon and bodies, is if to say "go check it out."


OOC

There are definitely places ambushers could be hiding, by nothing great within 15-20 yards at least. Assuming you all are looking out... no one sees anything besides what I've described.

Rindo shuffles his deck and draws 3 cards and makes a production of reviewing them briefly before speaking, "Wait!, i fear no direct good comes from this!" He reveals the upright tower, an inverted 3 of wands, and a upright knight of swords. "My interpretation of the situation is impulsive behavior will lead to disaster, ruin, and frustration". He looks around at his new companions. "Does any one have any way of speaking with the dead or at the very least providing more insight into the situation vs rushing off to go haphazardly disturbing some corpses?"

Kelarith falls in at the rear of the little group. He begins to ready one of his crossbow pistols, before giving Rindo a sidelong look "I... May... be able to consult with the spirits of these recently deceased. However, doing so is not without its own dangers. I suggest that we divide up our forces to make the best use of our time. Some of us should deal with the remains, and whatever of their spirits linger. Some of us check for survivors and valuables, and someone to keep a watchful eye out for other dangers."

"Suppose I can keep watch. I'll check for tracks too. Maybe we can find out who did this.", Arwi replied to Kelarith. With a watchful eye and an axe in his hand, he began to make a wide circle around the site of the attack to attempt to locate the attackers and any victims who may have run off.

OOCMaking a loop around the attack site to look for tracks or more victims who may have gotten away. He has his throwing axe in hand as it is good for close up and ranged attacks.
