What am I rolling for this again?

Under Restricted Items. Normally these are just Military availability but you are all still relatively new to Resurgence. Sure, you've made some friends/contacts but the quartermaster doesn't know whether you're responsible in combat or not. They are not being treated as illegal, just unavailable. For a bribe you can bypass that.

Quote

You can choose to secure a license through illicit means. If you want to bribe an official the quartermaster, make a Persuasion check instead of a Knowledge (Bureaucracy) check. If you want to fabricate a false identity or steal another person's identity, make a Deception check instead of a Knowledge (Bureaucracy) check. (he already knows who you are).

If either of these checks fails by 5 or more, the local authorities are alerted to your activities you don't get the item.

Basically you can make him like you and gain his trust early, letting you buy stuff like this at a higher price (in this case the cost is 4 times the normal price which constitutes the bribe).

@Malkavian Grin In terms of gear, is it possible to add an additional upgrade slots to my hooded robes? Not sure if 'clothes' have slots?

I was thinking that its probably a good idea to try and hide my lightsaber in case I'm searched at some point. I was looking at the upgrades and found: secret compartment, spring loaded and environmental sealing. Although each take a slot. Thoughts?

Also if I ask Remy to improve its armor rating (Fort) would that make it armor rather than clothes from now on?

Remy can use Tech Specialist to apply a Fort bonus to the robes without issue; it won't be armor since that'd be a Reflex bonus. However, being a Fort bonus indicates life-saving/preventative equipment like a breathing apparatus with tubes/hoses or something in the lining that injects you with a stim or some such. Maybe it's an iridescent sheen of a coating. I dunno medical tech. It'll be an obvious modification to your stuff; nothing huge but it will be noticeable and not exactly able to be hidden.

As for your robes, are those the all-temperature robes from the book or just "free clothing so you're not naked" robes? If you paid for it, it is a piece of equipment and thus has a single slot for use in Outlaw Tech (per Upgrade Slots) modifications. If you add an upgrade slot to the robes beyond that, though, it will become Light Armor instead of just Equipment. Could draw some eyes.

Secret Compartment I feel like is an easy enough thing on a piece of cloth that it doesn't use up a slot. However, it being a piece of cloth means a good Perception check can notice the saber's weight moving about. If it used a slot it would need to be rather foolproof to random searches (otherwise it's not very secret, eh?).

Spring Loaded is definitely possible but will take a slot--I'll even allow it to spring from the hidden compartment.

Are you talking about Environmental Systems? I.e. extreme-cold and heat? I really hope you didn't mean Vacuum Seals. 👀

You can roll dice and edit at the same time. You do have to put something up first, but after that, you can hit the dice in the upper left and roll away while editing.

I know, I just don't why they have a "Preview Roll" button if the result of the roll is going to change once you actually hit "Submit Reply." Seems like they could have just skipped coding the button.

Speaking of hit points, @Essex where are you getting those 2 extra from? We should have the same amount.

Tetra will definitely take Remy up on that and give his shockboxing gloves a +2 to damage.

I might have just added the 10 from hit die, unless I am missing something else. I can't remember. I changed it though.

@Wizard of the Coat did you still have questions you wanted Nina to ask Shade in the Interlude thread?

Yes, sorry. I had a busy time getting caught up at work so I could take off this week for a visit to grandkids. I'm in the airport now. My life should return to normal tomorrow.

I really only have one question which may end in a brief answer or be the start of a conversation if Shade feels talkative. But based on what I've seen in other posts, I thinking the conversation will be put off for some possible future moment.

I should be able to get that post out sometime between now and Sunday afternoon. Sorry for the delay. It took me a while to think through how my faux pas in that thread would work from Nina's point of view.

Do I have to bribe? Could I try mind trick him to improve his attitude enough that I don't need to bribe? Also maybe I could sweeten the deal and ask if there is something he wants from on-world that he can't get himself?

Thanks MG, yes I'm trying to keep them as clothes as that will avoid the save bonus switching to being from armor. I don't want the look of armor. Jal wears the standard space suit with jedi robes over the top. I was looking at modifying the jedi robes, possibly having it in a high up hidden pocket behind my neck so that when it springs I can catch the saber in the air above my head and activate it. Like having an over the shoulder sword sheath but hidden, spring loaded and for a lightsaber haha.

I'll check over the rules again with your explanation above. So if the robes have one slot to begin with then I might have to add one additional slot for the spring loading... Maybe the clothes are modified with a stylish back motif that incorporates a small harder material shell at the back neck area which hides the compartment and mechanism... shrug!

The bribe is the game's way of spending resources to bypass a mechanic. We could try the mind trick, but those aren't permanent. Eventually he'll realized he was talked into doing a dangerous (to him) thing by giving rookies powerful explosives. Could mean bad future mojo for you and gear if there's a sudden tax...

In my eyes, Mind Trick can be really strong but it leaves a paper trail of emotional damage. That comes with its own problems. 😈

You could instead with a good Persuasion check talk him into getting a "bribe's worth" of something on Cato Neimoidia... Likely a bag of drugs from the Hutt's palace.

Perhaps make it look like a backpack with a hard shell or maybe a breathing apparatus.
