"Alright then, the muddy pit of doom has been vanquished! Let's see what terrors await us beyond," Camlann jokes but keeps his voice down.

"I'll take the lead, but someone with sharp ears and an eye for traps is welcome to stick close by!" he adds, moving forward into the passage.

Camlann starts moving off down the passage as soon as the others indicate that they'll be following.

Father Bramblemane had drawn and loaded his sling as soon as the diminutive Halfling holy man makes it safely to the other side of the mucky sandpit and takes a defensive position to monitor the perimeter so the party doesn't get surprised.

Finally, when the last of the party makes it safely across the quicksand using the makeshift bridge the group had put together for the task, Wilwick grins and silently thanks the gods for their safety and success.

Surprisingly, the chanting was continuing and yet the holy man still was unsure of the exact nature of the ceremony at this range. Sneaking forward with the group staying in the middle of the formation, Wilwick keeps his eyes and ears focused on the surrounding environs.

Crescenda double-checks her crossbow's stringing and the gear locks, thus letting everyone else proceed and letting her be the last person at the rear. She is perfectly happy to let the frontline battlers take point here since that chanting could be any manner of dark power being invoked.

Relief at getting across safely with the help of the others, Gwen takes the moment to re-equip her armour.

 

Once ready.Gwen gives a nod of confirmation to Camlann to take the lead, before drawing her blade and keeping her shield ready, falling in behind him.

Back on solid ground on the far side of the quicksand, Ce'luna would resume her position at rear guard with her furry companion. After staring expressionless at Crescenda for about two seconds, her eyes would then flit to the wizard's horns for an instant before she steps up and turns her attention back to the front line without saying a word.

"'Sharp ears', huh?" A grin spreads across Fable's face. . "Well, I did get called 'knife-ears' once or twice... I'll keep one of them out for danger."  Then, her tone becomes more serious. "...and, both eyes will be out for any traps." As always, her cross bow is in her left hand and a spare bolt - of regular make, and not the rarer materials - is in her right.

On this side of the pit it's quite easy to hear the chanting: "O Maglubiyet! Great Maglubiyet!" over and over again. When you make your way down the natural cavern you find yourselves in a large chamber that appears to be roughly octagonal and walled with worked red stone. A dim light issues from the east. Strips of gauzy cloth that look like bandages hang from rows of iron reels on the ceiling, draping down to the floor in places. They form veritable curtains that block your view of whoever is chanting there.

Father Bramblemane moves quietly ahead along with the rest of the group holding his loaded sling tightly in his right hand as he watches and listens for the sight or sound of movement or anything unusual.

When the diminutive Halfling spies the dirty strips of gauzy cloth dangling down from the ceiling and filling the room to form a macabre curtain that literally gives the holy man the creeps it's so bizarre.

As the Domain Priest keeps his eyes and ears focused on his immediate surroundings, Wilwick mentally contemplates the name, Maglubiyet, and everything he knows about such reference or the ceremony unfolding before him.

Wilwick can recall many times goblinoid servants of a god named Maglubiyet have threatened the Valley of Obelisks.

Camlann peeks around one of the bandage curtains. A hobgoblin in a chainshirt is the chant's source; he holds a mace aloft in front of a black altar as he sways and intones. Black candles on the altar flicker in unison with his swaying. He spots a goblinoid skeleton in a chainshirt next to the altar holding a spear and silently moving its jaw as if joining in the unholy praise. A pile of coins lies at the base of the altar. The chanting stops when he spots the intruders in the room!

Gwen keeping as close as she can to Camlann, ready for him to give the signal for them to engage.

Hearing the sound of chanting end and the sudden moving of bodies, Gwen begins to charge in alongside Camlann.

Father Bramblemane notes that the chanting concerns an evil god worshiped by goblinoids who historically have threatened the Valley of Obelisks, which is enough to boil the blood of the holy man knowing that it's his duty to end this blasphemy.

Ready for action with loaded sling in hand, Wilwick prepares to head into combat joining Calmann who has moved forward and confronted the foul caster and interrupted the creature's unholy machinations and abominations.
