A Simple Adventure
Hey all. I ran this game on the old site in Pathfinder, and am now planning to try and run it here in 5E.
You, the PCs, live and work in Halgrove, a small town located in the midst of a vast swamp known as the Dankmere.
It's a relaxed night at the Drunken Huntsman. The booze is flowing, the tall tales are flying around, and the music is somewhat lively. Everyone is drinking, or not, as to their own preferences. Outside, a storm has been looming on the horizon, but that's still a ways off, so everyone is in fairly good spirits.
Of course, that could always change...

Adventures on the Uktar Atoll
The Uktar Atoll sits about two days travel by boat from the Lordship of the Isles. These low islands are set with a few hills, a rocky plateau, and a lot of jungles. They’ve been used as a secret pirate stronghold, have been home to a number of strange and esoteric cults, and have a small populace of halflings living on the northernmost isle – descended from the halfling servants that survived an earlier sinking of a pair of pirate ships. One of those ships somehow ended up not quite “sunk” so much as “propped up” on one of the islands.

Fight for Redemption
Fight for Redemption is a homebrew setting I created...far longer back than I would care to contemplate, following the remnants of a corrupt, expansionist empire undone by weapons of their own making. In cryosleep for several hundred years, believing the gene-engineered weapons of the Core Republic, the Jaretul, were not fully defeated. These scraps rejected the orders to return to the central planets, instead entering a long watch over the frontier planets they guarded.
Previously this was run in D20 Future, because back in 2007 that was the system that seemed best suited. Now it's been converted to Stars Without Number, which meshes with it far better and helps capture a bit more of the grittiness of a war-oriented campaign.
This will be a military campaign, with players as natives of the planet that is about to get hit by a Jaretul remnant fleet. The Jaretul are intent on gathering the resources to begin to rebuild their forces using the planet’s inorganic and organic resources. Players will be, through circumstances, operating as a special operations squad. There will be larger battles that take place, but the party will not be a frontline unit. Actions by the party, whether a mission success or failure, will have an impact on the greater strategic situation.
Players should expect a more lethal game, with the very real possibility of needing to make a new character. There will be some "horrors of war" elements, but within reason. This is Myth Weavers, and it will be in line with the site content rules.Characters are born and raised on Zannqu, and live and work currently in New Ry-ur, one of the largest metropolises on the planet. Home to one of the main spaceports and the second largest "Cities of Art," it is filled with artists and scientists on top of all the usual sorts to be expected from a large city. Unknown to the population, back when the Jaretul/Core Republic War took place, the planet was subjected to one of the rogue science experiments meant to help the populace against the Jaretul. Characters will wind up incorporated into military forces very quickly in the campaign but are not expected to be military or law enforcement, more average Joes/Janes.
Recently news leaked of an outbound probe catching images of ships not recognized by any historians slowly entering the system periphery, and since the leak it has been headline news for several days. When the characters look at the images it causes a fair amount of discomfort and headaches, like they almost recognize them, even if everyone around them seems fine when viewing the same.
A Jaretul remnant fleet has awoken, and found a new planet to harvest...
Questions and die rolls can go in the Character Creation thread.
Please make a character application thread in the Applications Folder.I'm Colin, longtime GM both at the table and via Play-by-Post. I tend towards primarily sci-fi settings, and may have a bit of a reputation for allowing the dice to kill characters. I do not have the view that players are the enemy, I just let the dice lie where they fall and believe it leads to great roleplaying potential.
On Ducj (SerakHawk) - well I'm Ducj. I do Ducj things and tell Ducj tales. My preferences tend toward storytelling first mentality, with mild horror / puzzle solving angles cropping in up in most of my own games. I'm editor in chief and rubber ducj supreme to ensure he doesn't commit terrible crimes against plot continuity.

Trouble in Glimmer Pass
You, veteran adventurers that you are, have come to the thriving port city of Avonlin due to the call for aid. Each of you have come for your own reasons, but those are irrelevant to the people of Avonlin, much less their Lord, Leonardo. He only cares that the trade route between mainland, resource-rich Avonlin, and the port-capital of Avonlin remain undisturbed, a task which now falls to you. Something has been interrupting convoys and stealing pack animals or people from them without warning or trace. Only once or twice a month, but that it's happening at all is cause for concern. How will you discover the cause, and what will you do when you find it?
A short little adventure which sprung out of an idea I had a while back, there are several options for solving this issue. hope you enjoy it.

Free Rain (CWN one-shot)
It was supposed to be a simple job, but things are never quite as they seem...
You have responded to a vague advertisement on the local net seeking freelancers for a "special project;" you're savvy enough to read between the lines or desperate enough to take on any job, so long as it pays…
Free Rain is a standalone one-shot written for Stars Without Number, adapted to Cities, designed for 3-5 beginner players and GM. More experienced players are welcome to play, of course. This is a simple, straightforwardIn the cyberpunk "almost everyone is out to screw you over" sense, module focused on exploring a variety of CWN mechanics Occasionally shoehorned in over the SWN baseat a surface level, to give the players a taste of how everything fits together, and is not intended to be the springboard for a campaign (although it could certainly be used as such).

MC1
January 2010
The Awakening hit, a massive resurgence of magic into the world that resulted in the minsnamed "Mayan Sixth World". Humanity responded as one might expect, not, as fantasy books suggested with smiles and acceptance of alien cultures entering their homeland. But with bombs. Big, nuclear bombs. The war started 3 months later. To be fair, it was the shortest world war in existence and was over by the end of the year. The war succeeded where diplomacy could not. There were now very few places people could actually live, regardless of whether they are man or troll. Cohabitation was the only solution.
January 2075, or 65 ATA (After The Apocalypse)
America is an irradiated wasteland. Within it lies a city. Outside the boundary walls, a desert. A cursed earth. Inside the walls, a cursed city, stretching from Boston to Washington D.C. An unbroken concrete landscape. 800 million people living in the ruin of the old world and the mega structures of the new one. Mega blocks. Mega highways. Mega City One. Convulsing. Choking. Breaking under its own weight. Citizens in fear of the street. The gun. The gang. Only one thing fighting for order in the chaos: the men and women of the Hall of Justice. Juries. Executioners. Judges.

Outlaws of Alkenstar
A ragtag band of gunslinging outlaws get their hands dirty in the greasy alleyways and whisky-soaked saloons of Alkenstar, the City of Smog. In a city where the clockwork guards are literally as tough as brass, the antiheroes will need true grit to dole out overdue justice.- Pathfinder 2e

Champions of Eriador
What was once the great realm of Arnor has fallen into ruins. The Witch-king of Angmar and other servants of the Enemy have shattered much that was beautiful and good in western Middle-earth, and the Free Peoples who survived have limped on ever since. The Dúnedain Rangers of the North guard their ancient lands from the Shadow, the Men of Bree hold out in their little pocket of civilization, and the Shire remains an untouched paradise of life, love, and laughter. To the east, Imladris remains hidden and well-defended by their ancient protectors, but even now, the Elves who dwell there begin to turn their gaze to the Grey Havens. To the west, the dwarves of the Ered Luin thrive as skilled craftsmen, traders, and reclaimers of the ancient halls of their forefathers, and the elves of Lindon have all but totally departed for the Undying Lands.
Much attention has been brought to the east, with the death of Smaug the Dragon and the restoration of both Erebor and Dale. And yet, Eriador remains, a quiet land with an ever-growing wickedness returning to its borders. There are no proclamations to be heard by great Kings or Lords. Instead, at the Inn of the Prancing Pony, travelers from across Middle-earth find themselves brought together by fate or chance. Perhaps some are already acquainted, while others are completely foreign. One way or another, this collection of Free Peoples may just find that their paths are more aligned than what they first imagined...

Ptolus: City by the Spire
Ptolus: Monte Cook's City by the Spire, the classic and much beloved campaign setting now returns for 5e.
Ptolus is meant to be fantasy role-playing in microcosm. It embodies all that is fundamental to the genre,
but it does so in the space of a single city. That means there are dungeons to explore as well as townsfolk to
interact with. There are strange magical mysteries to discover, demons to fight, and even dragons.
Ptolus is truly a city of adventure—player characters don’t have to leave it to embark on amazing adventures.
THE BASICS
Rules System: D&D 5e
Theme: Sandbox (dungeon, urban, political, intrigue)
Starting Level: 1st
You are just arriving for the first time in Ptolus, and you have heard a few things about this city, that is why you have come — for Ptolus is not without a reputation, to say the least. To call Ptolus a dynamic place with a strange and varied identity is to understate the situation greatly. Only now are explorers truly discovering how ancient the city really is and unearthing details of its varied history. Ptolus is where that strange breed that calls itself “adventurers” congregates. It’s a place where people are as concerned with what lies below the ground as they are with what’s above. This is like no place else in the world.
Ptolus lies in the world of Praemal within the bounds of a very old Empire unsure of whether or not it has toppled. Three different emperors claim the throne, and portions of the once great realm cleave off like icy shards from a melting glacier. This decaying society looks upon previous centuries and sees grander, more civilized, and certainly better days. Progress seems on the decline—skills and lore that people possessed just a few hundred years ago are lost now.
This is not a time to lose hope altogether. Older than our own 'real-world' cultures, this civilization is more sophisticated in some ways, but less so in others. A myriad of races and peoples have come and gone, creating an intricate (and sometimes confusing) amalgam.
Good struggles against evil, and law against chaos. So far the shadows only threaten the light— they do not yet consume it.
Not so long ago, the first men and women who would one day be called “delvers” returned from exploring the catacombs below the city of Ptolus laden with gold and magical treasures. Today, hundreds of new would-be delvers pour into the city each month, hoping to strike it rich like others before them. Most never crawl up from the realms below, but adventurers keep arriving with dreams of gold and fame. Those who do emerge back into the light bring with them tales of surprisingly vast reaches of natural caverns and ancient hewn passages. Perhaps dating back to the dark days when this area lay in the thrall of the terrible Skull-King, Ghul, when the region was pocked with winding warrens and subterranean chambers created by his dark armies.
They also tell of the horrors that dwell outside the life-giving reaches of the sun: unknown monsters and devious demon-minded things with a cunning unknown to human-, elf-,or dwarf kind. In the city, entire industries have evolved quickly to service the needs of these adventurers. In the shadow of an unnaturally tall, ancient spire with a very dark past, a whole new form of economics, politics, and social structure struggles to be born.
Creatures and individuals (good, evil, and otherwise) that normally remain in the shadows are drawn to this large gathering of adventurers and magic. The needs of the delvers prompt renewed devotion to magic, science, and religion. As the Empire of Tarsis dies, Ptolus—for years a backwater town on the edge of civilization—is quickly becoming the center of something much larger than itself. Omens and prophecies of children born with strange birthmarks surface in the city with increasing frequency. No one yet knows exactly what, but something is happening in Ptolus.
Something new seems to be stirring in this city . . . something that is ancient beyond mortal measure.
Mechanically, this will be standard point-buy with 27 points. I strongly disfavor stat dumps, especially Charisma, without appropriate story justification. I also disfavor gimmicky characters. Considerably more effort should be on the personality, flavor and behavior of the character than on the mechanics themselves. During the selection process I will look for characters whose personality and story stand out that I think would make for some good story telling. If you plan on just scribbling some numbers on a piece of paper then this game might not be for you.
The only house rule in effect will be the PHB +1 rule, which means you can use the PHB plus one supplement of your choice for your character. Supplements can be any WotC Hardcover (i.e. Tasha's, XGtE, Volo's, etc.) but you get only one.
There are also new options in play due to the technological level of Ptolus, you can find new spells, new domains, firearms, and new technological equipment by browsing the Library folder in the game forum.
The posting rate for this game will be an average of two to three times per week. Some days there will be more posts than others, but this campaign will be run at a leisurely pace. If you do not post once within 48 hours during combat, actions will be taken for you (usually the dodge or assist action). I reserve the right to eject from the campaign anyone who has not posted in a week without prior warning of absence.
I expect players to engross themselves in the roleplaying element and contribute interestingly to the story and for this campaign I also favor longer posts with detail and emphasis on the growth of the characters over just posting to meet the requirement.
I also travel occasionally, but this rarely affects my posting. I will be selecting a total of four to six players. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them.
APPLICATIONS
Available Books: All WotC Hardcovers (PHB, Sword Coast, Volo's, etc.). NO UA (Don't Ask). This campaign uses the PHB +1 rule, allowed races do not count as your +1.
There are also new options in play due to the technological level of Ptolus, you can find new spells, new domains, firearms, and new technological equipment by browsing the Library folder in the game forum.
Allowed Races: All common and minor races listed in the Races of Ptolus folder which is located by Clicking Here.
Alignment Requirement:All alignments allowed except Chaotic Evil
Starting Equipment: Based off class and background selection.
Ability Scores: Ability scores can be generated using the 27 point buy as featured in the PHB.
Hit Points: Maximum at 1st level, average each additional level.
The application process will be done in 3 phases.
Phase 1 (Hey we are already here!), here you will come up with an idea for a character and fill out a simple questionnaire.
Phase 2 You will finish a 10 minute (misnomer) background and fill out another questionnaire for your character.
Phase 3 Will see you create mechanics and actually roleplaying your character (while standing in line at the city gates awaiting your turn to enter), so that both you and I can get a feel for your character.
The deadlines for these 3 phases are as follows:
Phase 1 & II: Tuesday, March 16th 11:59pm CST
Phase 3: The number of applications received and how long the "in character" part goes on for will determine how long Phase III will last for each applicant. Upon completion, each applicant will be scored using the Application Scoring Process, after which the highest scoring six applications will be selected for the game.
I look forward to this epic campaign and hope you do too! I almost forgot, you will need the player's guide to understand the setting in order to create an application.
TECHNICAL STUFF
Phase 1 The Questionnaire
Make a thread for your application in this folder located by clicking here.
Then in your very first post in that thread answer the following questions in order.
1. Your experience with the 5e ruleset.
2. Your experience with PbP.
3. Expectations for playing and what you want out of the experience.
4. Philosophy as a PbP player.
5. Why you are applying to this game?
6. Define what you think good role-playing is in PbP.
7. What is your experience with Ptolus, if any?
8. What is the basic concept of your character? Sell me on the idea. Please include race, class, etc. but do not list any stats or mechanics.
9. Post some portrait art for a visual representation of your character.
That's it. Wasn't that easy? Once you have completed phase one then you can move to phase two.Phase 2 The 10 Minute Background
Add the next questions in order to your application.
Remember, I do not want to see stats, or mechanics, or sheets. We are working with the story of the character, mechanics can be posted later.
The Questionnaire:
1. How does your character interact with the others within a group?
2. What is your character's role in a group?
3. What are some things that are counter-intuitive about your character? I want one or two skills that would surprise others if they found out he knows them. Also include personality traits, positive or negative, that would similarly surprise others.
4. What are your character's goals, conscious and, perhaps, subconscious?
5. How easily does your character love? Have they been in love?
6. Is your character racist at all, either now or in their past?
7. All people believe something that is not true, both about the world around them and about themselves. What lies/untruths does your character believe about themselves and the world around them?
8. How is your character about material possessions?
9. What does your character perceive their major problems to be?
10. What does he perceive the solutions to those problems to be?
11. What are your character's religious beliefs?
12. What does your character fear?
13. How much of a temper does your character have? What sorts of things set them off?
14. Finally use the information from the questionnaire to write a background based around the above questions. The background can be as short or as long as you like, as long as it covers or touches on all the above information and puts it into a cohesive background. By doing this, it also gives me a sample of your writing ability as a player.
Once you have completed Phase I and Phase II then please let me know and wait for further instructions regarding Phase III.Common Questions & Answers

FINAL NOTES
GM Info: Hi there! It's Billy Watford. I’ve been GMing (DMing, Storytelling, what have you) for these last 35+ years (Or is it 37?), and gaming a touch longer. I’ve run what feels like hundreds of adventures via Paizo, WotC, TSR over the years and have currently many games running here on Myth-Weavers, some of which have been running for many years.
My GMing style focuses more on what makes a good story, and less on things like exploiting the loopholes in rules to their fullest. I like characters that are cards to begin with, but I LOVE characters that develop over the course of a game. Don’t make me deal with two-dimensional characters that have one annoying trait they exploit over and over, and I won’t have to make a tarrasque show up. Deal? Deal.
What kind of player am I NOT looking for?
Power Gamers (not sorry) and rules lawyers (really not sorry). Ptolus deals with a lot of new rules, new spells, firearms, and chaos tech. So I surely don't need players that want nothing more than to exploit new rules, or just to min/max their characters. Ptolus offers so much in the way of character development and roleplay.
What kind of players AM I looking for?
Ooh, this one is good. I am not really looking for players at all. I am looking for a cast of characters. I’m looking for someone who’s committed to not only a good plot progression (characters or players that stifle the plot make me want to scream), but character development. I want to see your character grow into their role. I want to see selfish street rat become swashbuckling hero! I want to see bored pencil-pushing acolyte become punishing wrath of an angry god! LET’S DO THIS. Welcome to Ptolus! Where your adventure begins.
I’m also looking for people who can follow basic rules of grammar. That being said, I can be pretty lenient about mistakes. BUT...for the love of god, in a system like this, where you can edit minutes, days, weeks later...take a little pride.
I look forward to your applications and good luck!
PLEASE READ THE PLAYERS GUIDE ALL THE WAY THROUGH AND THEN RE-READ IT PRIOR TO STARTING THE APPLICATION PROCESS!! IT WILL HELP YOU TREMENDOUSLY!!!

The Lost City
Looking for a player to join an ongoing Lost City campaign. This is using 5e rules for a Goodman Games Reincarnation Adventure based on the AD&D module of the same name.
If you're interested, please create a 3rd level character, but know that we currently have a rogue, a monk, a wizard and a ranger in the party. I'll be inclined to give the spot to a player whose character doesn't match one of those. Below are the character creation rules:
All races/classes from the PHB are just fine, and if you want to ask about others from other books you can go ahead and make a request. I've got Xanathar's Guide, but that's about it as far as the others go. If you want a class or race from another book, you'll need to give me a rundown on everything about them so I can make a determination. Just cut/paste at the end of your Character Sheet or something.
As far as formatting your character sheet, this is my preferred style - please do your best to craft something similar. That way I know where everything is without hunting all over the place for abilities, feats, saves, etc. It'd be much appreciated and will certain make your character more likely to be chosen if I get a lot of interest in the game!
For attributes, let's use the following rules:
1) Roll 4d6 for each and drop the lowest result from one of those dice. You can place them anywhere you'd like. If you are REALLY unlucky and wind up with a total of +2 or less for the sum of your modifiers, go ahead and roll once more. But only once! Then you can go to option 2 below.
2) If you don't like your results from rolling the dice, go ahead and create a character using the point buy system.
3) If you've got a RANDOMLY rolled character with a total of +2 or less for the sum of your modifiers, but you want to go ahead and play them, I'll let you choose a bonus feat as a reward!
That's all I've got so far... More questions are certainly welcome!- D&D 5e

The Ullanor Crusade
This is a concept I've wanted to do for years, ever since I first found the Deathwatch RPG - a game set during the Great Crusade, before the Heresy, before Horus was even declared Warmaster. I'll readily admit I'm not super knowledgeable on 30k lore, I haven't read the Horus Heresy books or anything, but I still really like the idea of a Deathwatch game set back when all eighteen (surviving) legions were nominally loyalist and the Emperor was still alive and active. The Ullanor Crusade seemed like the perfect setting for such a game.
Obviously the Inquisition and the Deathwatch itself don't exist yet, but this campaign would follow a small strike force of Astartes taken from the many different legions and sent on special missions. The Luna Wolves, Ultramarines, and White Scars were the most heavily involved in the Ullanor Crusade, but I think fourteen of the legions were involved in some capacity; your characters can come from any of the eighteen legions.
I'll most likely be using a heavily modified version of Rising Tempest, with the first chapter replaced with probably Extraction from the core rules. If the game goes on long enough, and people are interested, I may continue the game into the Horus Heresy era, either continuing in Deathwatch or porting over into Black Crusade depending on which side the squad goes with.- Deathwatch

[PF1E, Spheres] Ultraviolet Grasslands and the Black City
A world begins when it emerges from the mists of time. So it is with the civilizations of the Rainbowlands—which mark their count from when the Long Ago ended and the Now began.
The Rainbowlanders are the humans of a later era, undisputed masters of the fertile lands around the Circle Sea, dwellers in the Eye of Creation. They come in many shapes, colors, creeds, and faiths. They pile unkempt technology and misremembered lore together into a teetering whole. They rule the settled lands under their polychrome deities of ill-repute.
This story is not theirs. This story begins at the edge of their world, at the Left End of the Right Road. At the westernmost outpost of humanity, the Violet City: bastion against the hordes, entrepôt to the exotic sunset lands, and last port of civilization before the trackless steppe studded with the detritus of the Long Ago. The last glimmer of the Rainbow before the skin-blistering glow of the Ultraviolet Grasslands.
