Cyl watched as the others retreated, making sure none were left behind in this house of horrors. Sure they had made it out, the soldier beat a hasty retreat as well, climbing out the window.

He took a deep breath of fresh air, though the inside of his helm stunk like sweat and seawater. Landing squarely on the other side, he turned and planted his polearm back towards the window. If these foul creatures were to follow, they'd find themselves diced before they made it through.

The company withdraw from the building, having suffered no losses from their excursion into the big house. The ghouls have suffered losses. Smoke billows out the window.

OOC: Torren, Theo and Heva are now 4th level.

Torren huffs and puffs trying to catch his breath, "Yeah, stay in there you fetid shamblers!" He looks around at the others. "Alright. Yeah, I'm counting that as a win with a part 2 coming soon." He starts walking toward the gathered villagers to be out of earshot of the house. "We should huddle and plan over there."

He looks at the sky noting the movement of the sun. "Well, those things said they were what was left of the town. I'm loathe to believe them so we might investigate the rest of the huts to be sure. If it's safe, we can post watch on the Big House and let the villagers in to shelter in the other huts. You mages could also catch whatever sleep you are able to. But we're going to have to go back in and clear the shack before sundown." He was tired, more than he's been in a long time. But he wasn't going to complain about it.

Moving away from the smoking manor house, Father de' Fatale agrees with Torren's suggestion to post a watch around the stinking structure and investigate the balance of the village to secure shelter to house the villagers during the coming night.

Drawing a twisted willow twig, Raziel says, "Torren, please allow the gods to heal your wounds." Assuming the warrior consents, then Father de' Fatale will tap Torren twice with the curative wand causing a warm blue glow to momentarily envelope his wounds, causing the worst of the injuries to close and heal. "Praise Erastil!"

Smiling with a friendly sincere grin painted on his face, the padre reveals to Torren, "That new skin might itch slightly for a few moments, but in a minute or so it should then feel as good as new!"

Turning to face the rest of his colleagues who were inside the manor house, the Prieste of Erastil asks, "Is anyone else badly injured," while he keeps his eyes and ears focused on his immediate surroundings watching and listening for the sight or sound of movement or anything unusual?

When discussions come up of activities to engage in, the minister smiles and says, "If someone can cover me and we use the opened windows and doors of the manor house, I should be able to cast a series of cantrips that will bring forth rain inside the structure from the plane of water which should dose the smoldering fires and perhaps wash away some of the filth inside."

"Could burn it...," Ed says in response to Heva. "Also, though, it's the strongest and largest and most fortified building we got round this place. If we plan on holin' up here for a while and defending this here village against who knows what..., sure would be good to have it in tact."

Edwin find himself in the strange position of being completely unharmed and yet feeling like he narrowly avoided death.

"i've reached my monthly limit of times i'd risk my life for people who dont deserve it" after a brief pause he add "no, i dont mean any of the present" he look in the direction of the survivors, then back to the group "i agree with Torren, the survivors will keep watch, explore the village, do whatever damn they want...i'll do the same" the tired and very annoyed wizard manage to maintain a calm tone but his words deliver his feelings.

"anyway, before our assault, i've extracted some information from our foes, which i'm going to share now:"

he raise a finger

"One: We are on an island of some considerable size. There are small settlements to the east, north east and south east, the closest ones being small. Immediately to the east lies a swamp populated by xenophobic lizardfolk, to the west and the sea are Sahaugin and where we are now is a contested no-man's land between the two races."

"which means this village sit between hammer and anvil, frankly i'd consider moving north-east or south-east, into the mainland, set up a camp elsewhere, we wont have the walls to protect us...but wont be at spitting distance from the Sahaugin, once we're further away than the closest lizardfolk village...we'll be outside the the two factions battle zones, my dream choice would be to keep moving until we get to the east coast, make a non aggression deal with lizardfolk and settle there, make an harbor that wont be immediately destroyed by our sea-dwelling foes and begin building ships to leave this place...but i'm well aware that this will remain a dream"

Edwin raise a second finger

"Two: The ghouls are the last danger, currently, in the village, all other undead having been eliminated."

"Since this was obtained with magic, it's reliable, i'd encourage the survivors to search the village, will save us a lot of time"

The wizard raise a third finger

"Three: This area is a battlefield between Lizardfolk and Sahaugin, there were many corpses here from the fighting, but no longer. Ever and anon, some unlucky souls will founder here in a storm. The Manor, being fortified, is the only safe place between the warring races on either side... "

"Now, we are not the first, nor the second, who got here, i dot know how many expeditions settled here, but we know how all of them ended"

Stretching a bit

"should you decide to delay the second attack until after we've taken a rest, i should be able to use that spell again, to draw more information, whether they want it or not as long as one of them exist in this village i can learn what they know" after a brief pause he look at the arcanist "we're not the only wizards among the survivors, i'd suggest we go meet our colleague and exchange books"

If Theodmer agree great, otherwise Edwin will go back to the survivors alone, searching Elsinore

"Thanks for the save, Vosh!"
Beaming a cheerful grin, Theo waved after the goblin that'd likely just saved their lives by breaking through the window. Turning his attention back to the others in time to hear the suggestion that they burn the manor down, the elf cleared his throat before interjecting.
"Considering we don't actually know for sure when the sahuagin will attack, only that they generally prefer moonless nights, I'd prefer we keep the most easily defensible building intact, if we can. My summoned elemental is still in there, and will keep trying to eliminate the ghouls until I give it further instructions."
Shrugging indifferently, the elf continued, shading his eyes against the light as he looked out over the rest of the ruined village.
"Best option might be to take advantage of the temporary security here - assuming we clear out the ghouls - to build up as much in the way of supplies as we can, through breaking down the village or harvesting the local flora & fauna, and move on once we can establish a new base quickly. If we can source materials, I can craft some magic items that'd make the process easier."

Watching the house, Torren says, "No, I don't think we need to burn the house either. I agree that it's one of our best assets. Plus burning it would be seen for many miles which could draw some attention we aren't ready for. We need at least a day to regain our strength. After having moved away from the smoking manor house out into the fresh air, Father de' Fatale coughs one more time and then spits clearing a lot of the inhaled carbons from the nasty toxic fumes inside the building as the holy man listens to the debate on how to address the Ghouls inside the fouled and crudely fortified structure.

After the others have spoken, the Priest of Erastil says in a lowered tone, "I agree that we should not burn the manor house, if at all avoidable, for the reasons already cited. However, we might be able to even up the odds before our next incursion into the house," he adds with a sincere smile.

"To let sunlight into the home, we could open up the barred shutters in a few key locations which would also let in fresh air to help avoid the smoke and darkness problems we encountered last time," Raziel proffers in the same lowered tone.

"However, even though the goblin's adamantium tool can open it up fairly quickly, nonetheless the activity might draw the attention of the Ghouls," the cleric admits.

"But, if we are ready for this possibility, then it could also present an opportunity to ambush any foes foolish enough to make an appearance within our range," the padre adds.

"Regardless, the place will be illuminated, vented and present multiple places for us to move in and out of the structure as needed or dictated by the strategy of the battle at the time," the holy man politely suggests.

"But I only suggest opening up some key windows on the first floor as a possible strategy, nothing more," Raziel reveals with a grin.

"I'm sure with a group this big, collectively we have witnessed many things in battle, some of which can be combined into a solid plan of attack," he adds with a smile.

"I would, however, suggest that we go in during the light of day and not in the darkness of the evening or night, which would give the Ghouls more of an advantage than those of us without darkvision, especially if they get out," the minister says.

"Which also means that we should probably not crack open a few of the shuttered windows on the house unless there is enough daylight remaining in the day to go in and finish the job," Father de' Fatale concludes.

Almost as an afterthought, the padre adds, "Also, before we go in next time, I would like to send each and every one inside with minor prayers bestowing divine guidance and holy resistance upon you, which minor protection and benefit I can renew as we go, if needed."

Besides the cold that still numbs his hands, Ed is feeling much better after locating Bugler, who's been chillin' and watching things from a safe distance.

"VOSH!!" Ed hollers, and then locates the Goblin miner in short order. "Vosh... Greetings Sir! You've been saving our hides and we're all very thankful for it. None of us really liked that Edwin fella. I heard his comments... He doesn't speak for the rest of us. Anyway, he's gone off on his own now. So we're gonna regroup and hit the house again," Ed continues, "but we need you to break out all these windows first, for ventilation and so we can see what's goin' on in there. Will you take care of that for us please? It would be of great help."

Ed eyes Torren and Cyl, making it obvious that they're needed in the front. "Once these windows are all opened up, I'm ready for round two! I'll by the front door."

Ed lights a torch and draws his longsword.

"Father, any prayers you have are more than welcome! I'm not the most devout of men, but I accept most all prayers on my behalf and just well-wishes in general with the best of em'." Ed says to Father Raziel

Torren shrugs, "Yeah, alright. I'm always up for the fight." He checks out his gear and then pulls a magic torch out his pack. Tucking the torch into his belt, he stows his shield and brandishes his great sword. If they're going to go hard he'll need to take the ghouls down quickly even if it means he takes some hits. He forms up with Ed and waits for Cyl and the rest to get ready.

Vosh, (with randomly selected guards since none were specified and he won't do this work without protection) works his way around the ground floor, removing the shutters from the ground floor. The smoke gouts out as this is done, adding the dark pillar blighting the clear blue sky. However, this quickly subsides, and light begins to enter the building from all sides, revealing the foul interior decoration skills of the undead lair.
