A Great Upheaval

Gelfin strikes the final blow against the gnoll who falls to the ground in a heap of bloodied fur. Despite the length of the battle the party has achieved victory with few injuries; a boon considering your circumstances. The tavern creaks eerily in response to the sudden silence as the gales of wind outside continue to batter its damaged exterior. Now that combat has subsided it is time to resume the search for the missing citizens; perhaps the figure previously spotted above might have the answers you seek.

She then enters the room the gnolls desperately guarded, taking note of any additional entryways or pathways, particularly any leading upstairs.

Orcbolg begins looks around the building. "We are all here to support each other. I don't see why we shouldn't share everything evenly. But anyway, I'm getting worried we are not going to find any survivors whatsoever at this point."

Mark is relieved to see their last enemy drop. He moves forward and searches their bodies as they others talk. He is not interested in the weapons or armor, or the idea of lugging them around, he has enough weapons of his own and the armor is most likely weights more then what he is already wearing so would hinder some of his abilities.

He then scans the room to see what it was that was keeping the gnoll's interest when they first saw them.

Maybe we clear upper floor too and camp for night? Wait till nasty storm go away before exploring more?

Gelfin's expression is happy that they were finally finished with the Gnoll. He suddenly remembered that he had planned to head up stairs to find whoever it was that had been spying on them earlier. "There was someone else here upstairs earlier spying on us before this fight. Perhaps we should see who that is, maybe they are one of the survivors"

Rain continues to pelt the outer surface of the inn


You proceed upstairs

After some brief deliberation your party decides to approach the staircase and climb. The stairs creak as you move upward, the added weight of your gear making footsteps hard to disguise. At the top of the staircase you are presented with a hallway that has been damaged by the rock embedded in the lower floor. Ten feet to the left is a single door that appears to be slightly ajar; the light of a small fire glowing softly beyond view.

Orcbolg takes out his Everburning Torch and walks towards the door. "Anyone in there? The monsters are gone. We've been sent to assist the villagers with whatever problems they may be facing, and I'd say we'd found a few problems but we are taking care of them."

In this instance Mark decides to stay to the back of the group and keep an eye out for anyone trying to sneak up or attack them from behind. He knows his looks will not do much to sooth anyone they encounter so let's the others do the talking.

Gelfin let some of the others take point, while he knew he was not ugly, his red eyes were sometimes disconcerting. If it was a survivor, they were potentially scared and would be spooked by something out of the ordinary. Though he did speak up, once they were close. "You are safe with us, no one will harm you as long as you mean us no harm."

he keeps his senses focused to root out any danger that might be around.

You stand in the hall

Opening the door affords whoever may lay beyond an opportunity to strike; choosing to keep your distance the majority of you call out toward the illuminated room. Without any hesitation it seems you would not be left in the dark for much longer, a female replies to you rather swiftly as if expecting your arrival.

"I am unarmed and alone" she states, gingerly exiting the room.

Dim light offers you little detail as she enters the hallway; Blonde mid-length hair, medium build, and likely human. She introduces herself as "Kella Darkhope" a traveller who recently found themselves caught up in the events that unfolded in town. It does not take long for her to explain what has befallen the villagers, she shares what she knows willingly.

"I had been staying at this inn for three days.. things seemed fairly peaceful here. The local officials had been warned of gnoll raids going on in the outer reaches of the forest but nothing prepared anyone for what came for the town. I happened to be indoors at the time of the attack but I do know rocks began to fall from the sky, destroying part of the building and other parts of the grounds. People died, there was so much screaming.. during the attack I was hit in the head by debris and when I awoke it had already turned to night. When I tried to escape on my own everyone had already fled and the gates had been shut.. I was cut off by the gnolls who must have entered after everyone left."

"To survive this long, in your condition, is quite the feat. But it is still too dangerous to leave you in this town," says Aravari. "How long do you think it's been since the attack happened? Have you tried searching any of the other areas for survivors, or have you just been hiding in this building? Do you have a general idea of how many gnolls we're talking about, and where they may be concentrated? How is your head feeling now? How good are you with a bow?"
