Chapter 1 โ€” The Horror of Awakening

Rain-in-Summer

B8278D38-D56D-4D10-84D2-D1157F76821D.png.118b158dda0b886a8d97c1aa24ef7467.pngRain completes her spell, and T'Sarra and Vri catch a whiff of the power soporific gas that materialises around the nearest cultists. "For my money, I would Qlippoth are worse," she responds conversationally to T'Sarra as she wanders forward, trying to gain a clearer view of the combat. 

"But worse still are the people who worship such creatures. Who would venerate something that wishes only to grow and consume? Their God will see them as nothing more than food.

Once she has a better shot lined up, Rain fires a blot at one of the as of yet unharmed cultists. "We should try to take one of the leaders alive."


Sleep resolves, need a DC15 Will save from cultists 5, 7 and 9. 

Move: 15ft

Standard: Fire a crossbow bolt at cultist 0. Should be a 14 to hit, not 13- forgot to account for Bless.

spacer.pngVal sees the combat aburptly beginning, before she even knew the cultists were upon them.  Drawing on the magic in her latest elxir, the young woman prepares to enhance the speed of her actions.  At which point, before any of the enemy can close on her, she downs her last elixir.

Seeing that her attack managed to hit, she simply did it again, before stepping to the side, so only one of them could hit her.  Getting hit by two of them wasn't a good idea.

"What the frell is a bog-standard demon anyways?"  Domino asks Belinda.  "Do you know those people?"

Questions aside, she moves up to one of the cultists and does her best to skewer him.

Hmm.  The rapier should add 2 if the guy is flat footed and add 1 more if Domino is in range of the Bless.

Combat — Round 1

Initiative Order

PCs: Average(R 26, Vr 19, ??? 18, D 12, T 11, V 10, B 6) = 14.57

Cultists: 10

 

When Rain's shamanic mumblings came to an end, a wave of invisible fatigue came over the cultist closest to Vri, and she slumped to the ground, fast asleep.  The woman in the more opulent mask laughed and retorted, "Ha!  Puerile cantrips!"

 

"⩴₶⧉⏅⏅"  Calling upon the mysteries of the moon, T'Sarra cast a spell to bolster the morale of her allies, filling them with confidence.  As a result, Rain's crossbow bolt hit its mark, penetrating deep into the cultist's hip.  Almost falling into the pit herself, the hooded figure barely manages to avoid a tragic death, crumpling onto the side of the circular ledge as she struggles to crawl across the room to some measure of safety.


Vri’s rapier similarly finds purchase, puncturing the left arm of the snoozing cultist and disabling her while she was on the ground.  Though inadvertently waking her, Vri's second strike has successfully debilitated her opponent from aggressive action.  Limping, the woman made a futile effort to scramble back only slightly.

 

As Domino hustled forward to join her new companion in their assault, the cultists around the circular pit spun around to meet their assailants, shocked that the two androids are now awake and fighting for their freedom.  Distracting one of the hooded females, Domino gave the orange-haired woman an opening to sidle over and throw the dagger at her opponent, the knife point stabbing right through as the weapon lodges itself into the cultist's palm.


While one of the other cultists in the circle drew a dagger and came up to flank Domino, the other futilely waved their own knife in her left hand, as her right was ironically struck and skewered with a vaguely similar blade.

 

Without a single word, the woman nods at Domino and draws the strange metal stick from its holster at her thigh, tentatively wielding it in place of the other weapon.

 

Down in the pit, the woman that had been shoved to a treacherous fall mumbles some arcane words as she slowly gets back up to her two feet.

 

Meanwhile, back in the storage area, while Val downs a defensive extract, Barhuce takes advantage of the confusion to lob a bomb into the fray, splashing fancy mask and grazing one of her cronies with the small explosive.

 

"Argh!  Sacrifice them all to the Goddess!"  The woman behind the extravagant mask commanded, herself withdrawing from T'Sarra and the thick of battle as her remaining follower advanced to cover her retreat.  Her hands glowing a sickly yellow over her wounds as she mumbles something under her breath, the woman moves forwards to block T'Sarra's path.

"You see there are two groups of inhabitants in the Abyss, de... never mind! Tell you later just... watch your back!" She called at the woman asking questions on the other side of the cultists. She wasn't one of them, but was clearly fighting the same people, which made her an ally as far as T'Sarra was concerned.

Then the leader in the extra-dominatrixy mask was running. They never did like it when the subs resisted. But she couldn't give chase as much as she wanted to because a mook stepped in her way. Well, time to remove that blockage.

With the cultist she had been hitting out of the picture, at least for now, Vri ignored him for now (at least one that could be questioned later) and charged in towards the next one.

Domino

"But why is the demon in the bog?"  Domino asks.  "Do demons have to use ...?"

She is interrupted by a new adversary and is forced to dodge out of danger, swiping at her foes as she takes a side step and twirls with a flare of her cloak.  New adversary tries to close in, but Domino hopes to get help from the stranger for the exact same purpose.

 

"It has come to a point where knowing what to call you would be useful."  She says to her fellow Android.  I call myself Domin, and if you could step closer, we would have this one trapped between us."    

Domino pauses a moment to see if the other Android understands but does not hesitate long before stabbing the cultist.

Five Foot Step & Attack

"Bog" is an euphemism for "outhouse" 

Rolling one Attack of Opportunity.  I think the "A" cultist passed through Domino's arc when she moved last time.

If not, then if "A" moves to flank again she will likely create an opportunity for one.  

Then rolling regular attack on target "B" for this round.  Pausing just a moment to see if Belinda will close in and give flanking bonus.  I am also uncertain if the rim of the pit allows enough room for her to stand, so not going to add it into the attack roll.  20 looks like a hit even without Flanking Bonus, forgot to title the damage roll.  My OCD is vexed but I'm sure it's understandable.  Rolled Sneak Attack Damage just in case Belinda can step up.

Woo, nat20! If a 14 confirms that’s 8 damage, otherwise it’s 4.

spacer.pngVal moves into the room past her prison compatriots and downed foes bleeding and across the chamber sees her sister, "Domino!  It's me, Val!"  She searches to find the best targets in the room to move in on, her pistol held at the ready.

Combat — Round 2

Initiative Order

Rain lined up a shot with her crossbow, and as the bolt fly across the ritual room, several of her companions could hear the nigh-deadly projectile whizz past their own frames.  The bolt strikes true, impaling the cultist in question in the right calf, and though she seems quite badly injured, she came marginally close to toppling over the edge of the pit before saving herself.

 

As the elegantly masked cultist made for an escape, Vri expediently gave chase, threatening with a few wild flicks of her rapier from behind.

 

"Call... myself...?"  The orange haired android thought for a moment as she toyed with the metal rod in her hand.  "I, do not know."

 

As she hesitated, she watched Domino's dagger sink into her current opponent, and the hooded figure taking a backwards step to collapse just at the edge of the pit.   Deciding that for the moment Domino did not require her assistance, she turned to the one coming around to her flank, trying to whack them or prod them with it, albeit to no avail.

 

From down in the pit, the cultist that the yet-unnamed woman had shoved down rushes up the stairs, giving the other fanatic an opportunity to flank Domino, though still her attacks pierce only thin air.

 

Back inside the corridor, T'Sarra made short work of the gatekeeping cultist trying to bar pursuit to the bossy one with the fancy mask, tearing deep gashes into their flesh before curbstomping them into the stone floor.

 

Val on the other hand, having previously loaded her pistol and finding no immediate targets, held her shot as she assessed the battlescene while Barhuce rushed up to toss another bomb after the fleeing cultist, nailing her in the back of the right shoulder.

 

"No!!!" Hearing the blast from behind, the cultist being engaged by Rain and the unnamed female turns to see her superior's face hit the ground, a blasted and burned backside as evidence of her demise.  Taking advantage of the distraction, the unnamed woman clocks her opponent on the back of the head, rendering them unconscious.

 

Turning back towards Domino, she asked, "What would you call me?"

 

Out of the corner of her eye, Val notices one of the cultists crawling around a corner to flee from the ritual room, while the one beside herself shifts uncomfortably against the wall and curses under her breath.


 

(( Vri, please roll a Reflex save against splash damage from Barhuce's bomb. To clarify, no AoO against "A" last round, she went around a little bit.  Currently "5", "7" and "B" are dying, as well as the 2 rats in the library/lab. "8" is unconscious, "9" and "0" are disabled.  Oh and the 2 cell guards are dead. ))

spacer.pngVal slowly walks through the temple room working her way toward Domino.  The young woman lifts her pistol, raising it to the back of the head of the cultist targeting her sister (number 6).  "Say, Culty MacSpiderface, know what happens to a cultist's head when it is struck by a bullet?  Same thing that happens to everyone else's head!"  *BLAM*

"Not the bog! The abyss. Lower planes? The bad place? Granny's house? Never mind, we can talk later, pull back to us, we can surround them." She moved as quickly as she could but damn this chain mail was heavy, even for her! She was immediately reminded why she normally used lighter armor.

She moved as close to Domino as she could, but could barely keep up with Val, even without pausing to fire a weapon.
